3.5 stars If you’re looking for the full out entertainment of a teppanyaki chef, this place is lackluster compared to our beloved Sakura in Woodbridge. However, since my kids are grown and are just interested in the flavorful yum yum sauce, Tokyo One worked for us. It’s funny because this joint is in our backyard but we have avoided it due to our loyalty to another Japanese restaurant. Not anymore. We didn’t really care that we had to fake laugh at the volcano onion tower or egg roll or the chef’s miserable beats on the hibachi grill. We’re all about the food and sauce and it was better than good. The teriyaki shrimp, steak, scallops and veggies were all fresh and flavorful and he served us a good portion. We always pass on the soup and sad salad they provide with ginger dressing. He forgot to give us our two shrimp appetizer. Before our meal, the chef attempted to toss broccoli into our mouths, which is cool when you’re young but not when you’re grown and hungry. We played nice in the sandbox and went along with it. Prices weren’t bad either — $ 70 for three teppanyaki-style meals and two drinks(they serve cans of soda), not including tip.

Best fried rice ever! And the chefs put on a nice show. Food was great. Our only problem was that the other people around our grill had appetizers, so we had to wait for them to cook the main course for 20 minutes.

We helped our friend to move to Lorton couple weekends ago, and came here for dinner after an exhausting day. Initially we wanted to sit around the hibachi table, but reconsidered and went for sushi. The order came out quick and everything we had was really good. I really appreciated the guidance of the waiter who was very good at helping us to choose and was also very honest about the portion sizes and at some point even advised us against ordering too much food(and I am glad he did, we hardly finished what we ordered). My husband had Japanese beer and sake, and my friend and I went with plum wine, which was superb(very sweet, but really good).

Went here for the first time 2 weeks ago and the food was great! Our chef was very friendly and politely asked our table to restrain from using our phones to enjoy the experience and we did! The yum yum sauce was delicious.

Food is par, nothing over the top good, but nothing that was inedible. We sat at the grill and the wife and I both ordered the steak. The food was cooked to the right temperature, and the chef was entertaining. The portions were smaller than most Teppanyaki restaurants we have visited. The shrimp(yum yum) sauce was watered down. If you order a Coca Cola, be ready for a $ 2 can and a glass of ice. No refills. Not to worry, although there were refills on ice tea, we only saw the waiter once during the entire meal. Many comments say their rice is the best ever. It is unique because they add the yum yum sauce to it. My advice, find a better Teppanyaki restaurant and add the sauce yourself. As far as service, I thought out, typed, posted, proofread, and edited this review all while just waiting for the check!!!

Pros: entertaining and friendly chef, food prepared well, flavor decent, spacious for being in a strip mall, relatively clean. Cons: Portions ½ of what comparably priced Japanese steakhouses offer, shrimp sauce watered down, no fountain for soda(plan to spend 2.00 on a can of coke each time you want a refill) and the service almost non-existent. This is an average(at-best) Japanese steakhouse, overly-priced for the portions, quality of the food and service. To all those who read the reviews on how amazing their rice is, it was good, but their not-so-secret ingredient is the Yum Yum sauce– I recommend you find a better restaurant and add it to the rice yourself.

Nice, place. Stuff was great, food was wonderful. Ann one think i like a lot they don’t wait until they get enough people to sit on the table. They will sit your party and start do some hibachi show right the way.

We had a hibachi dinner here for celebration of our daughters 2-nd birthday. The food was great! We ere quickly seated, and server was at our table in a minute. I don’t really have any complaints. We will definitely be back again. Its also very close to our house, which is definitely a plus!

The food here is very fresh and typical Japanese flavors. I enjoy coming here for lunch and ordering sushi! Fast, attentive staff! The only downfall is that they didn’t have a baby changing station in the bathroom! This is a big hit in my opinion. It’s not fun having to go out to the car to change a diaper in the middle of dinner! Other than that, good exp!

Ok I’m starting this off by saying the sushi and food is always excellent. Unfortunately the service here is so so bad that I probably will never return after my latest experience. We went to dine and wanted to sit at a regular table not a grill. It wasn’t that busy. We were greeted by a 12 yr old kid who said the hostess would be with us soon. We waited and waited and no one came. Finally the girl went to grab the lady who then snapped«I’m cleaning! Let them wait!» After that she then came over and angrily said something to the other girl in her language. This is not the first time something like this has happened. It happens all the time. They have zero business mentality and they only care about feeding you quickly and rushing you out. I will say on a side note, the chefs are always nice and the sushi guy is super super nice. It makes me wonder if they know how much of a bitch the woman is(I think she may even be the owner or related). We walked out telling the woman«okay bye» and she was still bitching. We went elsewhere where the owner was so kind and greeted us with a smile. I do not feel valued at this establishment. Especially when I’m dropping a lot of money to eat with my family. So rude.

Came here for daughters birthday party. No wait for a teppanyaki table on a Saturday night. Service was friendly and fast. Our chef seamed to be going through the motions scripted and was hard to understand at times. Teppanyaki was entertaining but a little stale. Still the girls enjoyed the fire and trying to catch food thrown from the chef and the little comedic acts while cooking our food. Didn’t try the sushi. The fried rice was amazing. We would go again for a special occasion. Three and a half stars

My daughter’s class came here for a field trip on a weekday afternoon. Nothing to report really. Standard-issue hibachi grill. Sushi was fine. Service was a touch slow and a little cold. It’s located in a shopping center a bit off the main drag so it was kind of slow during lunch. Not great, not bad. That is all.

I stopped in today 1⁄22 to place a routine to-go order for the Sushi Lunch. Normally, when I place my lunch order, for the same item each time, I go to sit at the bar and wait while its prepared. After the usual 10 min or so wait the gentleman at the bar indicated that my meal was ready and waiting at the front(Usually they just bring it to me at the bar). I proceeded to the front of the restaurant and the lady in the front stapled a brown bag and hastily handed it to me. I just have one question for the staff as well as the readers: Does this look like the Sushi Lunch special to you? I am already back home so no, I’m not interested in returning to Tokyo One today to redeem the correct menu item. Normally I am more than delighted at the food and service here. Today, not so much. You guys can do better than this.

This place is really good and priced reasonably. I usually get their Hibachi lunch which comes with soup, salad and rice.

My favorite Japanese Steakhouse in northern VA. Minutes from Ft. Belvoir. Excellent for special occasions such as graduations, anniversary, date night dinner, family visits, etc. The food is reasonably priced and delicious. For a birthday, they offer a complimentary dessert treat. Very clean establishment with friendly staff. Fun hibachi experience. They offer military discount.

I’ve been going to Tokyo One since it opened. I’ve never had a bad experience. Their lunch menu is reasonable prices, their dinner is more expensive but well worth the money. You can get everything from hibachi to sushi which will all be amazing. Make sure that you order their fried rice it’s scrumptious. I like to take out of town guests because they are always impressed!

I’ve been frequenting Tokyo One for years — usually for lunch, but dinner or take-out every blue moon. The service is usually quick, but I have experienced one or two episodes of long wait time when ordering from the sushi bar, even when the restaurant was not crowded. Tokyo One has the best yum-yum sauce and ginger dressing around. Plus, their prices can’t be beat. Where else can you get a chicken hibachi lunch with salad and soup for less than $ 10? Overall, this is my favorite hibachi /sushi house in the immediate area — even beating out some of the pricier joints near Potomac Mills Mall and Kingstowne.

Hibachi at its best. The great thing about Japanese steak joints is that the cooks have their act down to a science. I ordered the steak and shrimp and my GF ordered the steak and scallops. We also got fried rice. The steak was grilled to perfection, the shrimp was amazing. Nice flavor, nice texture, no complaints. My GF’s scallops were very very good, I will order them next time. We went on a Friday and it was relatively quiet. Service was good, food was excellent and I was surprised that the prices were as reasonable as they were. A Great place for dinner. I HIGHLY recommend.

We recently relocated my development team to a new office location and I’m happy to have a sushi spot so close by. I’m about 3.5 stars on Tokyo One. I’ve only gotten take-out here and the young lady who has been at the hostess station has seemed a little flighty at times. Not sure if she’s new to the position or what, but it just seems a little disorganized sometimes. That aside, I was a solid 4 stars after several visits, but a bit hesitant after my last one this week. The yellowtail tasted a bit off(to the extent that I ate one piece and tossed the rest) and my sweet potato roll was undercooked. Mmmm crunchy, raw-ish sweet potato — nope not a fan. Otherwise all the sushi I’ve gotten has been very good and I’ll most likely keep coming back to grab something for lunch or try the hibachi if I have time to stay and eat in.
