I highly recommend FiOS, but with a caveat. The quality of the picture for TV is fantastic. The Internet service is fast and very reliable. The channels available are great. The customer service is not too bad. However, the one thing that really aggravates me about FiOS is the equipment. For some reason Verizon is years behind all of the other providers when it comes to equipment. You’d think that a company that has invested millions into this fantastic fiber network for TV, Internet and phone service would put some thought into the equipment they provide to customers. It wasn’t until a year ago when they finally released a DVR with more than 2 tuners, years behind everyone else, including the horrible cable companies. But here’s the problem. Being late to the multi-tuner DVR party you’d think that they would release a DVR that would be way ahead of everyone else’s DVR for the simple reason that they’ve had more time to craft a DVR to be proud of. But it’s not! The FiOS«Quantum» DVR(Arris VMS1100) has to be the worst cable box I have ever had to deal with, it’s horrible. How can you put a moniker on a piece of equipment like«Quantum» and then roll out a total piece of garbage. It’s worse that the old DVR it replaced! It’s sooooooo slow. I have to constantly reboot it to get it to speed up, and even then it crawls. I shouldn’t have to wait up to 5 seconds for the page to scroll on the guide after I’ve pressed the scroll down button. I can’t stand the«Quantum» DVR, I can’t stand it. I’m the kind of guy that likes to sit down and relax after a long day at work and throw some entertaining show on the TV to unwind. Using this cable box is more aggravating and frustrating than working all day. I end up wanting to throw the remote control across the room. So here is the caveat. Get a Tivo! FiOS through a Tivo is excellent! Tell Verizon to get stuffed with the cable boxes and rent a CableCARD for $ 4.99 a month. Pop that into a Tivo and you now have a setup that is enjoyable. Just remember that there is a monthly fee for the Tivo though, but it’s worth it to me and is still cheaper than renting the paperweights from Verizon.

Dearth of repair people. Will not be able to fix my Triple Play until three days later. Are they still on strike?

If you want fairly good cable, tele & comp connection — it’s okay. But Watch out for them quoting one price and then billing another and then be prepared for hours of conversation to attempt to correct the OverBilling(kind of strange that they never underbill!) Verizon agents and supervisors are rude & obnoxious as if they are doing you a favor. Finally after several hours on the phone got an e-mail address of the so called president to complain to Rec’d a call from Mr. Seymour after he rec’d my complaint and(funny that they call themselves Mr or Ms with their last names only but will call you by your 1st name!), after a 25 minute conversation he agreed to lower the price to the one I was quoted. After some research. I saw where Verizon has paid millions in fines to the gov’t for overbilling and they continue the practice. I feel that the politicians should stop issuing them licenses to operate in cities and states until they correct the overbilling. What do you say?

The actual service was excellent, but for 24 months they charged me like $ 13 a month for the Spanish channel and when I called up to renew my contract, they asked me if I wanted to keep the channel and I said I don’t care as long as it is free. When they told me I was paying since day 1 and it was my fault that I never realized it, but they would refund me 3 months, I found that to be a slap in the face and out of principle I cancelled the account and reluctantly went back to Comcast, so I could recover the cost, because Comcast was giving a $ 250 gift card for signing up for service. after I cancelled I complained about my experience on Facebook and was refunded an additional 12 months, which was okay, but still not good enough. Today I still have crappy Comcast, but refuse to go back yo FIOS, because they didn’t appreciate my business.
