I first happened across the GoLite store last summer and was very excited — I picked up a few clothing items and got my mom a fantastic(now discontinued) suitcase). I made a point of stopping here again this year and was very happy that I did. I was able to get a couple new high visibility yellow shirts for running and a new pair of Madrone capri pants. Service was helpful and friendly as it was the last time, and the selection of products is great. I’d love to see some additions to their line and a return of that suitcase I got my mom last summer but overall — GoLite has excellent products and the store is way more useful to me than North Face!

I visited this store on two successive weekends. The first time I was browsing, the second time I came with cash in hand, ready to buy. I like cash. Everyone likes cash, right? Well, not GoLite. After selecting the clothing I wanted to buy, I walk to the counter only to be told by the young lady behind the counter«Oh, we don’t accept cash». Um, whassat? You don’t accept… CASH? I can understand not accepting checks or credit cards, but cash? Seriously? I told the girl that I’d never heard of anything so stupid. Her response was«Well, there’s a first time for everything». She clearly didn’t comprehend the fact that her statement basically said she agreed wholeheartedly with me. She then went on to offer some half-baked excuses as to why they don’t deal in cash. First, she said, because they don’t have cash on hand, it’s safer for employees because they won’t get robbed. That’s not at all accurate, but whatever. Second, she says it saves on payroll, because employees don’t have to count cash at the beginning and end of each shift. I would say this point was valid if she had to count, you know, to a million, but counting a drawer doesn’t take all that long. Lastly, she said they don’t have to have armored car service, so they don’t have to pay for it. It also, she said, helps them be a «greener» company. What seemed completely lost on Trixie was the fact that the policy costs them money. In my case, I was with a friend who used a credit card and I just gave her the cash. But had she not been with me, I would’ve walked, and the money I was going to spend would’ve walked with me. I have credit cards, but use them only when there’s absolutely no option. In this case, even had my friend not been with me, there were PLENTY of options. It’s a freaking shopping mall. From GoLite, we ventured into The North Face, and a sales associate approached me and asked if I had any questions. I said«Yeah, do you accept cash?» He looked at me as though he thought I’d lost my mind. «Yes», he replied. «We’re still in America. We still take cash.» He knew instantly, however, why I asked that question. He looked at me and said«GoLite, right?» Essentially, GoLite has lost a customer. I won’t go back. The sad part is that the reason I won’t go back has nothing to do with their selection or their prices. It has to do with an idiotic corporate policy of not accepting cash. They’ve taken«green» to an entirely new level of absurdity, and I can’t believe that I’m the only person who sees it that way. I have about $ 1,000.00 more to spend on outdoor gear before embarking on a summer long cross country trip, and GoLite will see none of it. I have cash to spend, and will spend it with those merchants who will accept my cash(which, by the way, would be EVERYOTHERSTOREINTHISOUTLETMALL). Good clothes, lousy policy…

Went here with my GF a couple months ago and loved this place. The staff is extremely friendly and always willing to help. We found out that they’ve decided to take out the middle man and sell their products themselves and thus cut their prices for the consumers. What a great concept, since they specialize in high-tech ultra light gear for the camper/backpacker outdoorsy person. Since the initial visit I’ve been back here a few times and picked up a couple of items. The only negative is that I wish the store were closer, but their online store is easy to use and order from, so it’s not that big a deal. I’ll definitely use their site and when I’m out that way will always make a point in stopping by to see what’s new.

If you are an ultralight backpacker or traveler, you know the name GoLite. Boy, was I surprised when I found out that they had an outlet store at Woodburn. The selection was not wide, but then, outlet stores tend to sell clearance items only. With GoLite, I am willing to guess that their normal stock sells well enough that there would not be that much to offer at clearance prices. I purchased two running shorts and a shirt. I was fully prepared to buy a tent if available. Ah shucks,…none for sale. I guess if people are willing to pay full price, why sell at an outlet. I would definitely recommend anyone going to the Woodburn outlets, ultralight backpacker/traveler or not, go check out this store. It may sway you toward traveling«lite».
