I used to love Bob Evans, but my love for this chain has been fading for a few years now. Mainly due the steady decline in quality of food while the prices have increased. My first disappointment was when they shrunk the dinner rolls. Am I the only one who remembers when they looked like big fluffy muffins?! Now they’re half the size. But they are still tasty! So far, not enough to break off the relationship. I’ve found ordering off the breakfast menu is usually the best bet. Except, the last time I had sausage gravy it could have used more sausage and less gravy. My eggs have always been cooked spot on! That being said I mostly order from the dinner choices because dinner time is when I’m usually there and I’m more of a dinner person. For those of you not familiar with Bob Evans, breakfast is served all day. For a long time I always seemed to go for the meat and potatoes dinners. Turkey, meatloaf, pot roast, and chicken and noodles, all things comfort food! Then along came the Wildfire Chicken Salad! Yum! Now I’m alternating between the salad and the meat and potatoes. Eventually the salad seems to be consistently winning out over the meat and potatoes. Unfortunately, last night I had my last Wildfire Chicken Salad:(I got a salad for takeout and it was very disappointing. There was very little chicken(by the way, they changed to a lower quality chicken a few years ago) and the chicken that was there barely had any BBQ sauce, it looked as if they threw the chicken on top and followed up with squirting a dab of sauce on. If I didn’t want or like BBQ sauce I wouldn’t have ordered it! They used to put the dressing in a large portion cup which was plenty, then they went to two of the pre-portioned envelopes(still plenty), tonight I got two tiny portion cups that were half full. Not enough! I’ll have to eat the other half today with my own dressing. Then the price for this lack of quality was too much… $ 8.79! I realized that I had strayed from my usual meat and potato choices because the quality and portion size of those foods had been already declining. I once heard that Bob Evans used to have their own commercial kitchens that manufactured their foods for individual restaurants located within that kitchens district. Then they decided it would be cheaper to do away with those kitchens and go to using the big food suppliers that every other restaurant uses. Allegedly. Price wouldn’t be an issue for me if the quality was still there. I understand that PROFIT isn’t a dirty word. When businesses lower quality while raising prices… they lose me. Please keep the quality and raise the price. I’m willing to pay more for great food that I don’t have to cook! There’s two Bob Evans restaurants in Wooster. I chose to post my review on the Burbank Rd. location because that’s where my salad fail came from and even though both locations serve the same food, for some reason this location has disappointed the most.
