This was my first visit with friends. I was a previous patron of The Terrace Café that previously occupied this restaurant space. Came for dinner on a Monday night with 3 friends and had a great time. Server was outstanding and very attentive. Food came out quickly(installed a new kitchen helped!!) and hot! Two of us ordered the ChickenParm which was quite unique. 2 – 3 thick chicken breasts with a combination of chopped tomatoes and melted cheese as the topping. Chicken was on a bed of thick fettuccini — to the level we thought could have been homemade! VERY hearty dish — we’ll share between two next time!!! The others in my party ordered the steak tips with onions and the Irish Shenanigans burger. We all shared a strawberry shortcake for dessert which was a large piece of puffed pastry with strawberries and fresh whipped cream.(be sure to ask for a spoon for this yummy dish — we tried using the forks provided and were not successful!). Note: This is not a place to bring seniors or disabled folks who may be uncomfortable sitting on high barstools. During the winter, seating in the restaurant is only provided with stools at the bar along with high top tables and high bar stools. You’ll have to wait until the warmer months when it appears they’ll have the traditional lower tables with chairs out on the terrace. We’ll certainly return to try some of the other interesting menu items and hopefully the continued excellent service of the wait staff.

Just what Wrentham needed! This is a cozy little pub with great food, good beer, family friendly service, and a great atmosphere. It’s perfect for our little town. All food is fresh and made to order. It’s not a fast food joint, it’s a place to get a good meal, sit and relax, and enjoy your experience.

Hello I am the Excecutive Chef at The Gavel Public House. I am a big believer in customer reviews. We have served thousand of customers since we’ve opened. Our goal is to make all their visits positive and enjoyable. What concerns me deeply are negative reviews. No restaurant truly deserves 5 stars on every occasion there is always room for improvement. Based on the number of customers we have served and the negative verses positive reviews we are at approximate 96% satisfactory standard. What puzzles me is that based on those thousands of customers we have served we have only 21 reviews on Unilocal. How can a restaurant possibly be judged on these numbers. I am at the restaurant everyday and I am willing to discuss any issue a customer has. Just ask for me. We are not perfect considering human error and also vendor error. I can assure you our products are the freshest around and due to our high volume of business and are replenished daily. This is a documented fact. Please try us again and ask for me on your return. We are a close knit family place and I am proud of our employees. I can guarantee all comments good or bad our welcomed and we look forward to seeing you all in the future.

I so wanted this place to be great… But after 3 visits… I am still waiting. My first visit was the best of the group… Sat at the bar and had a burger and a beer. Both were perfect. My second visit I returned with my wife. Again, we sat at the bar. I ordered sliders, my wife a pizza. We waited for long enough to realize our order had been forgotten. The bartender apologized, gave us a free drink and placed our order. Her pizza was great. My sliders were burned beyond recognition. Third visit last night. At the bar again. My wife and I ordered salad. I ordered ahi tuna. She ordered a meatball sandwich. Once again we waited forever, and then asked about our salads. The bartender apologized again, «I forgot to bring them out.» Free glass of wine for my wife this time. The salads were great. My wife’s meatball salad was good. My tuna was spoiled. You might be thinking… Who orders tuna at a bar. You would be right. I eat a TON of tuna sushi. I love raw tuna. I was a bit worried about the freshness of the tuna at a pub in Wrentham, so I asked before I ordered, «how fresh is the tuna?» «It just came in today, it is great,» was the response. It was horrible… Totally rotten. One bite almost made me sick. They apologized and took the tuna off the bill. We live in Wrentham. We love the location, the décor, the people… All perfect. They just need to step up the service and food consistency and they could be getting 4 or 5 stars.

The first time I went, it was just open a few days and the food was good but the service/kitchen left something to be desired. But I am glad that I gave them another shot. They got it down! Waitress came over to us promptly and we received our drinks quickly. Same goes with the appetizer and food came out of the kitchen pretty quickly too! Server was on top of our refills this time as well. Prices are pretty reasonable and it is a great place to hang out for a bit with friends. Parking is available usually on street but it is a busy location and a bit difficult to get out of your parking spot usually. Besides that, I like the place. Hope it does well in the center of Wrentham!

Ok so we waited 25 minutes for a table. Not bad. It was busy. Interesting menu which satisfied us. Both of us ordered beef. I had the round roast beef. really amounted to French dip types of openface sandwich it was really really good the flavor of it was absolutely awesome with Swiss cheese on the top and caramelized onions. Richie had steak tips with smothered onions peppers etc. Janet, our waiter was wonderful and explained that a big party tied up the small kitchen The reason for my 4 stars was with the owner who spent 20 plus minutes enjoying wine with friends and showing pictures. We own a small business, go table to table, meet your customers, see what’s going on the kitchen, comp a drink or at least make contact with those waking 30 – 40 minutes for a meal. We’ll be back and hope the owners have learned a lesson. We don’t do3 strikes R&P Norfolk

My wife and I went here for our date night. It was a train wreak. Her burger was cold and chard. My chicken was still pink and cold. They did have the cook come out and apologize. The manager did comp the whole meal.

Visited around 9:30 Saturday night. The place was packed. We waited about 15 minutes for a table. The bartender was attentive and the staff was friendly and informative. We had the bacon wrapped filet and a cheese burger. Both were fantastic. The portions we large, almost too large for some items. Looking forward to going back and sampling more. Overall, great atmosphere, good service and quality food and a good price!!! Happy this spot has popped up in Wrentham.

So happy to see another local business added to Wrentham! The restaurant is very pretty and welcoming. My husband and I went for lunch and I had the wedge salad and my husband had a burger — both were delicious! We are very excited for the outside seating when the warmer weather approaches and look forward to our next visit!

Ok so here’s the deal. We were excited to try something new, that was so close to us. Very nice location and décor. We sat down and waited for at least 20 minutes before we were actually waited on. Once we watched our food sit on the window for at least 20 minutes it was brought over. The burgers were crumbly and under cooked. I got a cobb salad with shrimp. Shrimp was just GROSS. It was salty, salty, salty. The salad was just average but was doused in balsamic vinegar, not actual dressing. Over all I would not come here again.

Pretty good new place. Small beer selection. The food was good but the service was slow. When our food came out, it wasn’t hot. Still not a bad place. Will try again. I’m sure they are still working the kinks out.

Terrible attitude, Will never visit again. The staff must be miserable. The food was ok, the waitstaff wasn’t bad. Seems like management or ownership has a chip on their shoulder. Customers should never feel bad for an employee.

Wrentham needed a pub downtown! The Gavel opened in Dec. 2015 and is a great fit. We’ve been there several times now and they are consistently good. The menu was a little limited at first but once they got the opening jitters out the way, they have expanded the menu to a good mix of red meat, chicken and pasta, all well prepared. This visit we tried the Crudités appetizer. Good variety of meat, cheese, olives, and veggies but way too big for two. How do take it home? Lesson learned. Perhaps they could price it per person and size it to the party. Then we moved on to the Spaghetti with Chicken Parm and the Roasted Jalapeño Cheddar Burger. Parm was huge! Easily enough for two. Good sauce with tomato dice and fresh al dente pasta. There was a little water in the bottom of the dish so my wife suspected the pasta could have been drained longer before serving. My burger was hand formed and perfectly cooked to the requested med. rare. The Chipotle Mayo is a keeper. Wouldn’t mind that recipe! I think The Gavel will last, so far it deserves to. Seems to be full almost every night, that’s a good sign. Full liquor license. Margaritas were good and reasonably priced.

Great new restaurant. I went with a friend last night and sat at the bar. Service was quick. I ordered steak tips and he had the Ribeye Americana. The steak was amazing. The manager came to talk to us checking on the ribeye. Then the cook came and talked with us about the ribeye. Bartender was very friendly. I will certainly be going back.

Our salads were all lettuce and spinach. Not worth the money. The waitress forgot to put my daughter’s pizza in with our food then tried to blame the cook. I watched her then enter it into the computer(I hate that, just own it… you forgot). It took nearly 20 minutes for the pizza to come out. The pizza, and one of our salads was taken off the bill — which is admirable, but for as small of a restaurant as this place is and the small number of people in there at the time(Xmas eve after 1pm), mistakes like that shouldn’t happen.

Great place, great food. We noticed the new pub while driving through the center and immediately decided to swing back in for dinner. Great to have a classic public house in Wrentham. Being a new place, we experienced a few kinks with timing and a minor mix-up on a drink. But, the staff quickly and politely fixed the couple issues and the owner was even there to make sure we were taken care of and adjusted the bill even though it wasn’t needed. You can tell there is a lot of pride and attention here. Food — we had the nachos(huge and fresh fixings, not overly heavy and generic like a lot of places), burger(hand made and cooked medium as requested), and steak tips(cooked just right, tender, with fresh veggies). Food was awesome and that alone will bring us back. Prices were reasonable for the quality food and drinks. Plenty of attentive staff made for a great Sunday evening. Can’t wait for spring to enjoy the outdoor patio!

Visited here for the first time. Pub atmosphere. Packed at 6:30 pm. Did not have to wait that long, sat at the bar. No hostess. Food was well prepared and priced accordingly. Will be back again when all of the links are gone.

The Gavel Public House is a great addition to the Town of Wrentham. Food was very good with a nice menu to choose from. All in our party was truly satisfied and the staff was very friendly and accommodating. Looking forward to trying some of the other great item on the menu.

Awesome new restaurant in Wrentham. We went for their soft opening and tried the limited menu. Food was very good and service was great for the first night. We had the pretzels and cheese sauce for the appetizer. They were very tasty. We got ribeye tacos, pork marsala, steak tips and nachos. Each one was excellent. The nachos had fresh roasted jalapeños and were large disks smothered in cheese. Prices were super reasonable– $ 16 for large entrees. We spoke with the chef and he was so passionate about the ingredients and not skimping. The beers were mostly normal with 4 or so craft local beers. They have a full bar too. Can’t wait to go back!
