Went Monday 9÷28÷15. Ordered Oxtail w/rice and peas, cabbage along with a Curry goat, white rice and cabbage dinners. To some it up this was the worst Jamaican food I have ever ate. Even my husband who by the way is an official Jamaican said it was horrible. The food was old. It was so old it was almost sour. How dare this business owner serve food that wasn’t fit to eat. This was a disrespect to Jamaican food and they should be investigated by th Boatd of Health. I will no ever go back and advise anyone considering going there to reconsider. You might get sick. Since the app makes you select a star I have to give it one, but in actuality… no stars

I had the jerk chicken breast, jerk sauce was amazing, authentic, spicy etc However the chicken was SODRY, this really detracted from the meal. Veggies and plantains were very good. The ladies who work there are really nice, and the prices reasonable. Odd hours though as they are closed on weekends. And inside there is a menu with no prices, you have to ask which I find odd. Overall, I’d go back to try their steamed fish but I’m not racing to get there.

I would give a 5 but today the jerk chicken was especially dry. I was on my second bite when i realized more then half the breast was dried out. I’ve had it before and it never had that texture. The coco bread was the bomb though!

This is a very small jAMAICAN restaurant near the base and it is pretty good. I had the curry Goat and it was amazingly good. The portions are fair and the prices. Great customer service. They have amazing Jamaican pattys. I recommend this place for something different.

Oxtails were great just not enough. The jerk chicken is spicy but still very good. The staff is very friendly. Wish they had a website but they say it is coming soon. They do not need to turn the music down for me I love it.

This place seriously is amazing! This is straight authentic Jamaican food! By far the best dish for me is the stewed beef with peas and rice smothered in oxtail gravy!!! Out of this world! The women are super friendly and sweet and I love listening to their beautiful Jamaican accents! It doesn’t look like much from the outside but do not let that deter you at all!!! The food is worth the stop!

I was really impressed with Sugar Cane in Wrightstown. This authentic homemade Jamaican restaurant really stands out on a crowd of international establishments. There is no shortage of international fare to choose from within a 2 mile radius of Joint Base McGuire; you have Japanese, Chinese, Greek, Afghan, Italian and Jamaican. In this landscape of competing international cuisine, I think Sugar Cane might have something special. The outside doesn’t look like something you’d consider, it’s front door is boarded with plywood, you can’t see inside, and there are not as many cars as you’d normally like to see, but don’t let that deter you from giving Sugar Cane a shot. I’m not saying the inside is much better, because it’s not, but it is very familiar and has an authentic islander vibe, with cool island beats playing and authentic dishes. You have to enter Sugar Cane with the right frame of reference and the pursuit of one thing, and one thing only; homemade authentic Jamaican. Nothing more and nothing less. If that is what you desire, then you won’t be disappointed.

I come here regularly for the jerk chicken, rice and peas, and especially the plantains. The building doesn’t look that great, which can scare off a lot of potential customers, but the staff is always friendly and the food is always delicious. I’m a big fan of the oxtails here too.

I got the Beef Patties and Macaroni & Cheese. Definitely authentic Jamaican cuisine. Both items i had were pretty good. Nice change of pace as far as restaurants go for this area in Wrightstown. It’s located right next to TP’s Car Wash on Ft. Dix Avenue.

Sugar Cane’s authentic Jamaican food adds welcome variety to the Wrightstown restaurant landscape. There’s a lot more to Jamaican food than jerk chicken. I’ve had the brown stewed fish, curried goat, calaloo, and provision. It’s all very tasty, although I don’t know much about Jamaican food, so I’m not the best judge. The spice is savory, not hot. I especially enjoyed the texture of «provision», a hockey puck-shaped dumpling made of boiled green banana, yams, flour, and corn starch. The closest analogy I can think of is gnocchi, except twice as dense. It’s not for everyone if the texture sounds appealing. My advice is to pick up a menu when you’re in the neighborhood and ask them about some of the menu items that look appealing. They offered me a taste of calaloo. On any given day they only have about half the items on the printed menu or the sign above the register available. If you pick up a menu you can call to ask what ‘s available that day. By calling ahead you won’t need to wait, which could otherwise be a problem because there’s often just one person in the kitchen and it’s not fast food. Mostly a lunch place, but they do stay open till 8-ish.

I hear there is also a name Sugar Cane Restaurant in NYC, but this is the first Sugar Cane I know and have had. Situated in the wilderness of Southern NJ, this restaurant is quite simple. A wait staff takes order or you order from the counter and your food is served. It is usually staff with 2 ladies that will serve the usual Jamaican Caribbean food. It offers 3 food choices for lunch, stewed beef or chicken and curry chicken. My usual order is Oxtail and Chicken. I tried them both and it was not so bad. The medium plate is reasonably price at $ 9 or $ 8 and the lunch choice is at $ 5.50 which is in the box. The price is the same you’ll pay in NYC.
