Cresap Bay campsite 31. July 2 we arrived garbage had not been picked up in about 5 days. I complained and the camp host said that they called about it and no one was answering their calls to pick up the garbage. July 4 came no garbage pick up, more garbage was piling up. the smell was pretty bad especially when eating a meal. Monday July 6 when we left in the after noon there was still no garbage pick up and the smell was really really bad now. Garbage was not picked up in over 8 days and with a big weekend like 4th of July it was bad. We had two small children with us and all the other children riding there bikes on the asphalt the garbage was right there in the road. I took pictures of the garbage areas with heaping garbage. I would think twice about this campground and call ahead about the garbage pick up there. It ruined our holiday to come back to that every day and night.

We chose these beautiful campgrounds to stay at the weekend we did the Ape Caves trail, it is just a 30 minute drive from the caves. And man, this place is popular! When I was booking a single tent site, I could only get a reservation for a month later. We had a nice little campsite, shaded by some trees and surprisingly secluded. The website advertised space for 8 people but I feel like our two tents and one car pretty much filled up the space. Each site had a fire pit and a little bench. The campsite is quite beautiful to explore — there’s a cute little nature trail to do plus a designated swimming area in the Lake Merwin. The water was pretty cold in September but we did have a great time! Its a really comfortable campsite with its flush toilets and even showers! All for $ 20 night. Definitely bookmarking it for future Mt St Helens adventures!
