Bruce’s Burritos

Love this place. Nice veggie burrito, added sweet potato and tofu of the day. Good chips and guac too.

Eaten here a lot tried just about everything. All excellent food. I have a craving-​for it a lot these days. Keep up the great work and food!!!

If you are familiar with Granny’s Burritos of Portland in years past, and you loved them, you will love Bruce’s. The burritos and quesadillas are hefty portions of tasty beans and rice and whatever you want. My recent favorite is the pumpkinseed and sweet potato quesadilla, which was the daily special. Get it with the sour cream and salsa. Always get the sour cream and salsa.
Tip: Call ahead for lunch and get it to go. It’s a tiny space and is a popular lunch take out joint for locals. You’ll save some time by calling ahead.

I dream about the Sweet Potato Burritos at night. Super fast service, great burritos.

Super fast and friendly service.
Tried the green pork chili. It was chock full of meat and not too many beans. I found it to be a bit plain for my taste, but it was very warm, comforting and filling. It came with a very generous cheese topping and lots of crispy corn tortilla chips.
I shared crispy taco orders with my table mates.
Tacos were simple with your choice of meat fillings, iceberg lettuce and shredded cheese. Salsa and various sauces were served on the side. Staff allowed us to order the 3 taco plates with a different filling in each taco for no additional charge.
The pork and chicken fillings were well received by my table mates, but were both a little to sweet for me.
The beef and chorizo were both excellent and are definitely what I will opt for during future visits.
The mild salsa was thick, chunky and tomato-​ey, the guacamole was smooth and pleasantly acidic. It was declared the guac ever by a table mate, but was again a bit too plain for me.
If some really good salsa verde and quick pickled red onions could be added then the beef or chorizo tacos could become a serious addiction for me.
Overall a great experience, great staff and great portions at a very affordable price.

I love Bruces burritos. Every bite is succulent and full filling. I recently tried a new burrito restaurant and it was the biggest mistake.

Bruce’s in the bomb. Great burritos with fresh ingredients. Prices are about average 8 – 9 dollars for a burrito that will fill up but will not place you in a food coma. The place is very small so lunch time at Bruce’s things fill up quickly and finding a table can be tough. They have a lot of options for a vegetarian and meat eaters alike. Their salsa’s are homemade and so, so good. I enjoy the Blueberry salsa very much. If you are going to frequent Bruce’s I would also recommend that you make sure to grab their loyalty card so that you will get a free burrito after so many trips.

Walking in I was overtaken by the barrage of children’s artwork on the walls. That mixed with the painted seats let’s you know this place is kid friendly and just made me happy. The burritos themselves were not OMG I could eat this everyday as I found it a bit dry. Maybe that’s how they get you to use one of their many sauces. I liked the sweet chili which I hear is a general favorite. The burritos were filling and for the average human stomach, the child size is more than enough. There are vegetarian options which are nice as well as build your own burrito. My favorite thing though was they sold green apple jones soda which I haven’t seen in years! Broke a 5 month no soda streak for that. If that’s not your style they have plenty of other drink options. All in all a cute place that gears toward family with decent food that won’t break the bank.

I know burrito is in the name but the hard shell tacos are fantastic. The shells are crispy and fresh and loaded with lettuce and cheese. The chorizo is very good with huge chunks of meat that are seasoned very well. The chicken was also cooked perfectly and had great flavor. Overall though, I think the meal needs just a bit more cilantro, and the salsa it comes with is a bit boring and would be better if it had some life to it.
The service is warm, friendly and very fast. I am often still filling cups of sauces to go and the food is ready. Try the haberno sauce, its wicked hot! Though they have a nice selection of sauces it would be great if they had another spicy red sauce that has a heat sitting between the Frank’s and the habenero. Most taco/​burrito places also have a standard Salsa Verde but for some reason wasn’t an option here.
I like that they are thinking outside of the box with some of their options, but still have a lot of the standards to choose from. I look forward to going in every time because I know I wont be disappointed with any selection I take a chance on.

This was a genuinely fun family restaurant. Fresh ingredients, good meats and great guacamole. The best part is the family friendly environment. When you walk in, you feel like a toddler walking into moms kitchen for dinner. Very fun. Get ready to be very full.

we had an excellent burrito place where we lived in the Bangor area and were very happy to find Bruce’s when we moved here. Love their burritos and quesadillas with sweet potatoes! The corn and garlic salsa is really good too!
Bonus points to them for sending out a daily specials list.

There is no need for a long review when it comes to Bruce’s Burritos. The bottom line is that every burrito I have ever ordered has been delicious. I give this establishment a well deserved 5 stars!

Wow. Absolutely delicious burritos made to order. Each burrito is a complete meal! Great selection of fillings, sauces and additions. It’s basically takeout but with some tables and chairs on which to eat. The portions are generous and the ingredients are very fresh.

This place introduced me to burritos and I’m thankful for it. I figured that a burrito in Maine would never compare to those I would experience as I grew and traveled, but I have been surprised to find that’s not the case. In my travels down south and out west I have yet to find a place that rolls them up as nice as Bruce’s and the friends I have brought there from around the world agree, it is something special.
Beyond the food, the staff is unwavering in their kindness and service. You will always be greeted with a smile and on most occasions, have your food in hand before you finish paying!
Definitely give this place a try if you haven’t (you probably already have). You won’t regret it.

We went here again last night and here are my updated thoughts…
Pros:
The staff is super friendly.
The servings are generous.
The service is very fast.
The food, while not the best I’ve had, is pretty darn good.
Cons:
–I think the store bought taco shells and tortilla rounds they use for the chips and salsa are a bit of a turn off. The chips look like the ones you would get with that fake nacho cheese at a ball game, and the taco shells are like the ones your mom served at taco night in the 80s.
–I wasn’t a fan of most of the sauces. The special mango salsa was the only one I liked, and I’m usually a big sauce/​salsa fan.
–Not a whole lot of seating, especially during busy times.

The burritos are great (I always go with the special), and the couple who own it are wonderful! For an added benefit, they are Grateful Dead fans like me so I love the background music. The space is a bit small so be prepared to do take-​off or come during off-​peak hours. If the weather is warm, they have shaded picnic tables.
If you’re heading up to Freeport for some shopping, stop here to get some healthy (and affordable) food — there are very few options in Freeport.

I work across the street and hit Bruce’s all the time. In and out… They’re fast and good. My son is their biggest fan though!
Get the sweet chili sauce for your burrito!

I’m impressed considering such a small establishment in a mini mall area. I got the special: sweet potato burrito and my fiancé got the chicken burrito. Within 5 minutes our order came out and the woman hand delivered it to us through the bustling tables.
The burritos were heavy and securely wrapped. The taste was amazing and evenly balanced with rice and veggies. I could only eat half it was so hefty but look forward to left over burrito tomorrow!
Fast, delish, a bit carb heavy with rice but worth it, and awesome sauce selection.

I’ve been told they make a mean burrito. This was confirmed during my first visit, on Saturday.
Yarmouth is a town I rarely stop for food in. Not sure why, which may explain the reason for never picking up one of Bruce’s Burritos. Perhaps it’s close enough to home where I think, «10 miles and I can grab something at the house.» If I’m coming from Portland, I’ve usually already stopped somewhere else.
Bruce’s have board specials every day. Saturday, I opted for the roasted pork burrito w/​guacamole, mango salsa, stuffed full with rice and black beans, cheese, and a dollop of sour cream. You can choose whole wheat or white as your tortilla option.
This was an awesome initiation burrito to have at Bruce’s. The flavor explodes in your mouth and the burrito is substantive.
The service was fast and friendly. Think fast food for people who don’t really like chain fast food.

Does Bruce’s have the best burritos in the whole entire world? No. But we’re in Maine, which is at least (Google Maps don’t fail me now!) 2,400 miles from Mexico, so personally my expectations are never super high when it comes to burritos (poutine, yes; burritos, no). Here, you’ll find a plethora of options for omni’s, vegetarians, and vegans alike though — and that effortless accommodation, serious speed of burrito delivery, and use of extremely fresh ingredients is super appreciated. Take note: every day there are specials that change…
— Salsa specials have included — mango, pineapple, blueberry, etc.
— Chili specials have included — chorizo kidney bean, chicken white bean, traditional beef, pork verde, «peace, love, and hominy» (their veg option), etc.
— Tofu specials have included — southwestern, roasted garlic, roasted garlic-​jalapeño, spinach and roasted garlic, habanero lime, cilantro lime, balsamic herb, lemon-​thyme, sweet and spicy, etc.
— Speciality burritos/​quesadillas have included — pumpkin seed pesto quesadilla with spinach; chorizo sausage burrito with roasted apples; green chili beef with sweet and spicy sauce; (sometimes a St. Patrick’s Day themed one with) Guinness braised ground beef, roasted poblano sauce, and corn), and, EVERYONE’S FAVORITE, the Thanksgiving Burrito (chicken or roasted pork, sweet potato, stuffing, cranberry-​jalapeño sauce, pinto beans, cheese, and sour cream).
(Pro tip: Since these change daily, be sure to check their social media accounts or website to find out what the specials are for that specific day!)
I like their food, I’m just not overly impressed by or enamored with it. The last couple of times I came, the tofu was creamed making the entire burrito have the same sort of wet, mushy one-​note texture to it (I wonder if they’d ever consider doing tempeh to give us veg/veeg’s something more hearty to bite into?). It was still rolled super tight (a complaint I have about a lot of places in the state); and was tasty enough, but I personally felt the roasted garlic tofu had no distinct flavor to it and the pineapple salsa was too muted in it’s tropicalness. I won’t lie: I chowed that thing down in a manner of seconds and would do the same if there was another in front of me right now. I just wasn’t entirely satisfied with it.
But I was entirely full.
And that — along with the EXCEPTIONAL customer service — is why it gets four stars. I can get a burrito (and an RC Cola) for under $ 10 that’s a) customizable to exactly how I want it/​need it to be for my dietary restrictions in a super timely manner regardless of how busy they are; b) is extraordinarily filling (and I’m a girl with a hollow leg, so this is saying something); c) and is made by people who love their jobs and the customers who visit them. We were treated with the same respect and love and kindness that the regulars were, and that made us feel right at home.
