Stopped by for a non fast-food alternative on a drive home from FL. Not RIGHT off the highway(probably 3 – 4 minutes off) but definitely worth it !! The food was fresh(had the pulled pork salad with delicious side veggies) and everyone was so friendly :). Prices are cheap for the amount and quality of food. Others should strive for this standard ! Definitely worth the stop !

Caution: food coma. The pimento cheese sandwich is so good, and you must try Paula’s famous«squash puppies». It might be the only restaurant in town, but it’s by far the best. While you wait for your food you can look around at all the amazing treasures that adorn the shelves. Not to mention the most incredible Persian wool rug collection I’ve ever seen. It’s a treat every time I come here — the tea is sweet, the food is either fresh or fried, and the menu is refreshingly unpretentious.

This restaurant was worth the 30 minute drive out of the way to get there. We were coming from Hilton Head Island. The service was delightful and the food was down home southern. My suggestion for them is to do family style french fries instead of each person having a large portion of fries. It would waste less and save them money.

Great road trip stop, close to the highway but feels miles(and miles) away. Home cooking, friendly hosts, I’m glad we stopped there ;-)

The food was very good and there was plenty of it. The squash puppies were a treat! We’ll make a point to stop again next time we’re in the area.

Holy cow!!! Get the Squash puppies for God’s sakes. Just get don’t question me! If your you will regret it. Had the super something hot dog, bottom like top 5 hot dog in my life! It’s food porn size huge O. o The atmosphere is quirky and neat. Others in my party had the pulled pork sammich, and the Ruben, their comments were they were passable. It’s all about the squash puppies, light, fluffy, super texture and contrast. Unique flavor.

I loved this place. Especially the homemade pimento cheese! The squash puppies were a tasty and unique little bite as well. Nice place to stop and break from I95. It IS a deli type place. You’re not gonna get southern comfort food or veggies here except a salad, fries, or slaw sort of thing. My mom was somewhat disappointed about that. I would stop here again tho.

Adorable and delicious! The staff here is so friendly and the food is delicious. We both had the pulled pork with squash puppies and sweet tea. Loved the atmosphere… You literally sit at a table amongst the antiques. Worth the five minute detour off 95!

Thank you Unilocal! We would never have found this little place or even driven by it without it. This place is such a little hidden gem. Very cool old building. Great pit beef sandwich with fried okra and great southern hospitality. Paula, the owner came out and talked to us for a while and so our waitress Samantha. Neither were in any hurry and we got to experience a little treat on our long drive. If you’re hungry and driving along 95 right now, do yourself a favor and stop. Don’t be too put off by the part of town that leads up to it. Hope Unilocal sends more business their way. They deserve it. And don’t forget to stop next door and get some moonshine from the legal, local distiller next door. It was very good. I had a taste and bought a bottle. Nice guy operating it. Gave me a whole lesson in moonshine.

Hungry on 95? Wait for this place. Exit 41 I believe. 3 miles in is an amazing, family owned deli that is a gem hidden in a stand of lob lollie pines. Squash puppies are amazing and the vinegar and mustard based bbq was sick! Super friendly southern hospitality from locals and owners. Moonshine next door adds a great touch to this off the beaten bath deli that will make your day.

I am from San Francisco. I don’t do long stretches of I-95 well because – let’s face it – the restaurant choices are pretty dismal. My family and I stumbled upon this place one Saturday afternoon in desperation. I actually called around 4 because I wasn’t sure it would be open. The lady actually waited an additional 15 min for us to show up so we could eat there! Let me just say right off the bat that this place was the HIGHLIGHT of the road trip. I will post a picture of my meal. Best pulled pork sandwich I have ever had – hands down. I talked to the cook afterwards and she makes the pork daily – it takes her 12 hours and the amazing sauce is from scratch. The squash puppies are an absolute must. Best hush puppies I have ever tasted in my 19 years of living in the south. I was a little worried my kids wouldn’t have a lot of choices, but when we got there the lady in charge basically said to the kids – what do you want? I will make it. She also charged us a lot less for the kids. My husband loved his sandwich as well. My kids were raving. The feeling you get from the place is like you would feel if a favorite aunt lived right off 1 – 95 and you stopped in and she served you whatever you wanted from scratch. I am not exaggerating. You can’t go wrong with this place. Love. Love. LOVE!

This was a great find off I-95. Driving between Florida and North Carolina and this was our best stopping point. Quaint homey feel with great options for food for the whole family. Generous staff and cute ambiance. We will be stopping here again for some Homemade food in between drives down south!

Don’t be fooled by the look of this place because the food is really delicious and the people here are very nice. You will be sitting among all of the antiques and items they have for sale. Although that isn’t my thing, I enjoyed the novelty of being in a different place and just really took it all in. I had a cheeseburger which reminded me of the kind my mom would cook for me. Very good! My boyfriend had the pulled pork sandwich which was also very good. On the side we had squash puppies which were out of this world delicious! I never tasted anything like these before and I don’t eat a lot of fried foods but these were not greasy at all. If you are looking for a good bite to eat for lunch, this is worth the short trip off the highway. This definitely beats any chain spot so give it a try! Thanks to Unilocal for leading us to a great lunch!

Compared to the other choices in the area, this place is nothing short of a miracle. Defiantly an oasis amid a desert of IHop’s and Waffle Houses. Great home made food where everything is not fried but providing some options for those who enjoy that sort of thing. Ownership and wait staff are professional and friendly. Clean and kitschy. Very affordable leaving money to spare on an item from the store. Recommend the tips sandwich with very tasty sauce, tender beef and fresh, ripe tomato. Husband had the special including ham and cheese panini and as he commented«maybe the best home made tomato bisque I’ve ever had.»(He makes our soup so this is a humble compliment) We look forward to returning next year on our annual Thanksgiving trip to FL.

We were looking for a local eatery on our way home. I typed in where to eat in Yemassee and Fletcher’s came up with great reviews. We pulled up to the weathered building and were pleased to see locals grabbing lunch. The palmetto pimento cheese is served grilled on sourdough with bacon crumbles inside and strawberry preserves for dipping. I had the baked potato potato salad as my side. Imagine several sweet red potatoes boiled and tossed with sour cream, butter, salt, pepper, and fresh chives in the place of mayo and pickles. My husband had the pulled pork sandwich. It was beautifully smoked and tossed in a yellow mustard bbq sauce that paired perfectly with doll pickles. Make a point to stop here if you’re traveling on 95.
