Malecon Restaurant

My BP went up after I tasted their ribs! SO SALTY! I get it, a bit of salt to taste but DAMN – cut down on adobo with salt!
Decent chicken, mediocre food.

This review is for dining in. Save your money and go down the block to Caridad. As far as Spanish food places, I would equate this to White Castle, but that would be insulting to White Castle as they actually cook their food in front of you and you get it hot. The two wenches that own this place are the fat sister and the anorexic one that drive the white Mercedes parked in the driveway. They typically work the register. They must not pay their waiters much because they are slow, rude, and on several occasions forget things. I had one argue with me about the burnt t-​bone he brought out that was basically beef jerky with a bone and said the chef can only cook that cut of meat well done. Really? Spoke to the manager and she did not charge for this steak but didn’t offer to replace the meal. Good thing I had lost my appetite after chewing on their stale cold bread. The Sancocho is mostly full of potatoes and bones so steer clear if your are expecting a meaty stew. The place temperature wise is always cold, seems outdated and on several times I had to get up and get my own napkins, water and utensils. The only reason I would go here is because it is the closest Dominican/​Caribbean not Spanish (as in Spain) restaurant closest to me, but I have been going to Caridad down the block which is so much better. Save your money and sorry to White Castle for the comparison.

This place sucks. If you like garbage service and food, this is the perfect place for you. This place is the epitome of trash. If you want good «Spanish» food, do yourself a favor and just go to Caridad.
How did I order food and it came back still frozen? It was so FROZEN, that I was waiting for Olaf to come out the kitchen and build a fucking snowman with me with the shit. Told the waitress to come and feel it and she said, «yeah it’s cold, you don’t want it?».
BRUHH. First of all they brought me the wrong order, but whatever. I’ll eat anything but this shit.
Anyways, she returned the food and came back with a «new» plate. You can tell they just threw it in the microwave and heated it up. Like if you wanted to do that, might as well add a hot pocket or fucking Hormel.

I asked specifically for a fresh chicken cause they previously gave me a dried out one and i got home to a dried out chicken when the lady said I’ll get it from the bottom its fresh. Wont be going there again. Ill try my luck with caridad next time.

Food is average here. Nothing to go crazy about. Service is very very slow! I have been here a few times with the family and its always the same deal. Only one or two waiters available! Overall in ok spot thats local to us. Prices are very affordable.

The worst service ever! We brought our friends from Texas and their two children for a late lunch at 2 p.m. on Sunday after church. Our friend is a minister and was wearing his collar. They used to live in the area 10 years ago and remembered Malecon fondly. Besides us, there were about three couples eating and a party of 12. We ordered batidos for the kids and 6 meals. We got one bread basket with 4 slices of bread and water. After 30 minutes, the waiter came out with one order of rice and beans and two meals and one batido. I said jokingly that the waiter obviously had no kids if he brought only one batido for 2 kids. He didn’t get it! So one child had a meal and a batido. One adult had a meal and another adult had rice and beans and no meal. After another 30 minutes, 3 more meals came out. One woman, our friend from out of state, had nothing to eat and no batido for the other child. Finally the batido and the last meal came out and it was the wrong meal. Chicken Mofongo instead of Lemon Chicken. Give me a break! The waiter looked shell shocked. Off he went. Another 15 minutes went by, our friend walked to the front to cancel her order but they said it was already started. She began picking at her husband and her children’s meals. We finished our meals and the lemon chicken came out. Yes, the food tasted good but the service is UNACCEPTABLE. There was not a language problem as I am a native Spanish speaker. We were not demanding, loud or belligerent. The cashier asked if I wanted to add a tip. I said no. We will never return, ever!

The staff there is RUDE and the food HORRIBLE!!! I had never been treated in such a DISRESPECTFUL manner before entering this establishment. NEVER AGAIN!!!

I came here with 2 other people and the place was empty. The environment looks old and out dated, really needs a make over. Note you are not seated you find a seat yourself. Waitress came in a average time but her body language seemed like she really didn’t want to be here. I ordered rice and pork, I have to say the pork was flavorless. Its like biting into watered down meat, no seasonings or anything was tatsed. The rice helped swallow it down. Then again you can get that type of rice or better anywhere else. I’m pretty sure it come in a can. I wouldn’t recommend this place to anyone who is looking for good, more like a last resort type place.

Most things are ready to serve. But the grilled pork chops is worth waiting for and ask for their special garlic vinegar!
I’ve tried other stuff and they’re okay.
This is my 2^nd time to come for dinner — the bathroom just stinks! The toilet paper holders do not work do the roll in one if the stalls was on the floor. The other with the toilet paper hanging in the bag hook has no luck.
The grilled pork chops were very good with the special garlic sauce.
I hope the grade was an A wig the health inspector now that I saw the bathroom.

They are so rude. I order over the phone for delivery and the lady was so rude and impatient. Never again!

Horrible service, only a few items on the menu I order but to take out. Not recommended!

My boyfriend and I order from here pretty often, it’s not too expensive and the food hits the spot. The only thing I will say about the delivery is the woman who delivers our food from time to time is very rude. She’ll call to tell us our food is outside, before I could even put my shoes on she is calling again and honking the horn. Then when I go downstairs, my building’s door locks so I’m holding it open and she won’t even get out of the car to bring the food. If she does, it’s with an extreme attitude!

I live 15 minutes away. ordered food at 6pm and was forced to cancel at 8pm… no food in sight… the 3^rd time i called they said the food was 5 minutes away but it was already 2 hours late… food would’ve been cold… no longer ordering out from these guys… they let a bunch of orders pile up before letting the drivers go… i would NOT order if i were YOU! you will NOT get your food when you want it… the whole point of ordering delivery is to get the food when you are hungry and can’t make it… they will let you starve

OK, the food came… the girls are nice, but confused, and appear afraid of the customers. The staff appears either inexperienced, or untrained — they don’t communicate with customers, disappear for protracted periods in the kitchen, don’t check back with the customers about food.
I can’t tell what’s going on in the kitchen, but several parties who came in after us got their food first, when all we ordered was bacon, eggs, rice and beans.
The dinner menu looks expensive. After the service I experienced, I won’t be coming to see if it’s worth the price.

Not worth the waste of time. They have dishonest business practices and not the kind of place I’d recommend eating from. They don’t deliver food in a timely manner either.

My boyfriend and I brought his mother here for Mother’s Day. When we walked in there was no hostess. We waited unacknowledged for 10 minutes. When we were finally seated we didn’t have a waiter, the hostess took our order. Our food didn’t come out together and when we finally had all our food we had no utensils to eat it with. Top it off our waters were never refilled. The two stars are for the food because it was delicious. However, we waited 20 minutes for someone to give us our bill and when we got the bill they already put a 15% tip, which I have only ever heard of for large parties not for three people. They certainly did not deserve 15% for that service.

This review is based on their delivery service. I wish I’d read the Unilocal reviews before ordering.
In placing the order I was miffed because they didn’t have their advertised daily special. My replacement was the rabo, or oxtail, with white rice and beans on the side.
Food arrived in a timely fashion, I will give them credit for that, hence the one star. However, upon consumption, disappointment unending ensued. The rice had bits of overcooked pieces in it, crunchy from being near the edge of the pot, and, to add insult to injury, was additionally clumpy because it was stale. And I don’t mean stale in the sense that it was cooked this morning — stale as in cooked last night or before and reheated. The oxtail was cut into ¼ inch sections — which I have NEVER in my life seen anywhere, even at the butchers — and some pieces had more gristle than meat! The advertised side of plantain were two meager pieces hidden amongst rice and the excuse for oxtail. At $ 6.50, I was expecting a smaller portion, not poor quality. Will not be ordering from this location again — was recently informed there are better locations in Manhattan and the Bronx.

3 and a half stars. Its a great place for quick dining. Take Doña out the kitchen; take her out for a variety of carribean/​latino food. Do not get experimental and order pasta, its not as good. Stick to the BASICS. RICE AND BEANS, Chicken, etc. The only out of the ordinary foods I ate here was the tilapia and steak which is pretty good.
The mofongo is not the best here, for that try the mofongo house in Dykman.

Malecon is a real hit or miss kind of restaurant, however I say «restaurant» very loosely because I don’t recommend coming here for a sit-​down meal.
I’ve had Malecon cater a number of parties at my house and we’ve always been satisfied on that end. The prices are reasonable and their delivery staff was always prompt and set everything up the way we asked. Not only that, but our guests always rave over the food, particularly the stewed chicken, beans & rice.
The big fault here is the restaurant itself. Coming here for a regular dinner is a totally different experience and brings up a few red flags in my mind. While it’s a beautifully decorated restaurant, the prices compared to the size plate you end up with just don’t match. The food tastes very different than what we get catered, and you can end up waiting 20 – 30 minutes for a plate of food that is already sitting in the front buffet area for takeout orders. The biggest turn-​off for me during my last meal there was the random, errant shrimp vein in the middle of my plate of yellow rice. Neither I nor anyone else at my table ordered shrimp or anything seafood-​related, so how did that get there? It just didn’t sit well with me.
So maybe I won’t come here again for dinner every night. Will I still call for a cater order? Maybe. But I do think there are better Spanish restaurants in the area that are a lot less expensive.

this restaurant is a hit or miss, its getting expensive for Spanish food. Ordered a negro modelo and got Heineken? Its ok, 1 mistake everyone can have a bad day, Then i asked for the lunch menu and she said here and handed us a menu, once we placed the order, she comes back and says, we dont have lunch at this time… i was (WTF in my head) its 1:35 and she just said i know but that was what i was told. So i ordered rabo (ox tail) and my friend some chicken with a beer each and it was almost 40 dollars. thats way too much for Spanish lunch for two people.
I have been here before and it was great, dont know if they have new owners or management but now its not great.
