Cutty Sark Motel

Great place. We brought our family here for the long weekend and it was perfect! It’s location is great, right on the water and a bit removed from the bustle but still within walking distance. Very friendly staff and guests. Great place!

This is a wonderful little hotel with excellent service and a great unobstructed view of Long Sands Beach and the ocean. The rooms are not fancy, but they do include a TV, AC, fridge, and coffee maker.

Love this place! It is paradise. Superb customer service, friendly atmosphere, beautiful ocean view terrace to relax on. Our room is quaint and cozy and very clean, and we are on the second floor and we can’t stop looking at the view! This trip was spur of the moment (we just got married and had extra money following our three day honeymoon in NYC) and weren’t expecting such a lovely place – we plan to come back as soon as we can!

Stayed at the Cutty Sark this past weekend for a friend’s wedding in York. It is definitely a no frills motel, however, I wouldn’t have chosen anywhere else to stay. The proximity to the beach is amazing, it’s centrally located, the rooms are clean — it’s a pretty straightforward place. Honestly, I thought it would be a tad cheaper than it was, especially considering it’s a motel, but all-​in-​all very pleased with our stay.

If you want a room with a view of Long Sands beach, this is definitely it. Keep it mind, it is a motel and not the Marriott. But it was exactly what we were looking for. We stayed in a room that did not have AC but it wasn’t too bad. The view was worth it. When we arrived, I pulled the blankets down on the bed and found several long black hairs in the blanket so I just removed and didn’t use them. But we would definitely come back and are looking forward to it.

Every room in this hotel is pretty much ocean front, without a street in the way to drag you back down to harsh reality of all the people around you.
There is a green space in the back of it that is perfect for sitting on and listening to the waves. If you sleep with your windows open you’ll hear the waves crashing all night, which is exactly what I look for when booking a hotel near the water.
The only disappointment was that the day we left, we woke up to no running water. We called down to the front desk who claimed they had made us aware that the water heater was being worked on, which they definitely had not.
We had to pack up our things and move to another building to shower and clean up before we left to go back to the city. Kind of left things on a sour note, a little communication would have gone a long way. No excuse for that since they weren’t nearly fully booked due to it being mid week.

Just came back for a winter get-​a-​way. I suppose winter at a beach town wouldn’t be everyone’s fav, but we do like Maine and have been to both York and this motel many times before.
Made reservations on the motel’s website. In order to reserve, you must select a room from those indicated as «available.» No problem, picked the room — «upper» or new and larger rooms, not «lower» older and smaller — plus at a slightly higher price.
Received confirmations, first night charged to CC, got a reminder e-​mail a few days prior to arrival, etc. About noon on the day we were to arrive got a call from the motel — office would be closing shortly and was it OK to tape the room key to the office door? «Oh, and the room you reserved — sorry that building is closed for renovation.»
Decided to give it a try — it was snowing and I didn’t feel like doing the room search — plus they had my money. Small, 1950’s vintage room, odd smell and guess what — we were the only ones in the place — so we thought. Upstairs we heard footsteps, which continued until 12:30 am and started up again at 5:30 am, plus the world’s loudest toilet. Even with our TV on, the sound of the water upstairs drowned (sorry) out the volume. I’m assuming it was the owner or caretaker or someone with the place, but it was the worst night I’ve ever spent in a motel. Needless to say, we left early the next day.
Did they stay open for us, even though we were the only guests? Yes. But still I would much rather have received a telephone call days or weeks earlier when it was apparent no one else was staying there and given the option of going elsewhere. They don’t have to worry about that now — when in York, elsewhere it is.

Located right on the beach, it has great views and easy access to a beautiful flat beach. Hotel is clean and staff curteous. It is an older motel but overall pleasant to stay.

Pros:
Our room wasn’t fancy, but it was clean and large, both the bedroom and bathroom.
Mini-​fridge in the room and a LCD TV with cable. Spectacular views. Leave the windows open at night for the best soundtrack ever for sleeping.
Super friendly staff — the housekeeper even took a moment to arrange one of our kids’ stuffed animals in a little pose as part of cleaning the room. It was a nice touch.
Free coffee and muffins in the morning.
Minor cons: Check-​in was a little slow. And the bed wasn’t too comfortable. And of course, there’s the price — you’re paying for the million-​dollar property, at least during high season. Thankfully, it’s worth it.
We plan to return again in the future.

Great place! Motel is older, but most places on Long Sands are. The motel is very clean and offers free muffins and coffee in the morning. The trolley stops at the motel, and the location makes an easy walk to the more touristy Short Sands beach. Staff is friendly. Rooms on the upper lawn are larger, while lower lawn rooms offer better views. All room views are amazing however. I would definitely come back to this motel, and I consider myself hotel snobby.

The best location! Great views right on the oceanside. We could open the windows and listen to the surf all night! Staff is very friendly and helpful. Rooms are comfortable. We’ll definitely return.

When I am stressed out & have to think of my «Happy Place» this is it! Beautiful beach front location, great views, warm and hospitable staff. The rooms are older & some have no AC, but clean and comfortable. All you need for a relaxing weekend… perfect getaway!

My favorite do-​nothing but bring a pile of books, magazines, and music getaway in the summer and the winter. Just for a couple of days of escape with the best view. This motel is the only place directly on the beach. It’s simple, you can get a room, preferably on the third floor, without phones, clean and reasonably priced. In the summer it’s usually booked up, but it’s frequently empty in winter… have had the good luck to be there in frightful snow storms, full moons and blistering heatwaves. No matter what, it’s great to absorb those positive ions on the beach and fall asleep listening to the waves crash and looking at the constellations spin overhead.
