Stopped in with a friend to try some beers. They had an alright selection. I was blown away by any of the brews. Seems like standard brewpub beers and food. Now living in Philadelphia makes me a little spoiled because I have so many brew pub options that are stand out amazing… In York… not so much. All things considered this is a really good brewpub for this area but I am very excited to see how they expand and grow. Their location gives them lots opportunity, I just hope they use it well. Can’t wait to come back, when I visited they were only open a few months, I hope by the time I get back that they will be more into the swing of things.

Stopped by here on the way back from Hershey Park. There was seating available for a table of 6 on a Saturday night so that was super convenient. Being a brew pub only Mudhook beers were available. I got the double IPA which was good, hubby got the sampler(he wasn’t blown away by any of the beers) and other couple had wine. The burgers were lackluster –toppings were great but the burger itself was blah– I think they might have overground the beef, not sure. The cheesecake was awesome. The vibe/décor is rustic and cute. Was it terrible? No. Would I make sure to go back if in York again? No.

Got the sampler paddle with all their beers; all were drinkable, but none stood out as something I’d look forward to ordering a full pint. Lots of options on the menu for non-meat eaters; all their burgers can be ordered with a black bean paddy. OK, maybe a variety of bean burgers is not exactly a lot of options or creative now that I think of it… However, hubby was very happy with bean burger with BBQ sauce. I got the special of the evening, pumpkin ravioli with a tomato based sauce with crab. It was delicious considering the predominate flavor was sweet with a side of sweet; it was more like a desert. Live music sounded like the real thing; he had some techno assistance(kinda karaōke-like).

Got a chicken sandwich and fries to go and the chicken was not even close to cooked and the fries were soggy. There was no one else in there at the time either, no excuse

Food was good, zesty salsa, hefty hog wings. Beer was good but not great. Server showed up late, interrupted our order to speak with other wait staff, disappeared during meal then commented rudely about how quickly we drank the flight«most people just order the sampler and that’s all.» What? I hate to see a server dictate our return but this place was just average enough to swing it in the wrong direction.

Great food, great atmosphere, and great service. The house salad, beer bread and broccoli cheddar soup made for a wonderful dinner. Prices are extremely reasonable.

We were looking for something to do on a rainy Saturday and I came across a ‘festival’ at Central Market which ended at Mudhook. Apparently the rain kept people home or, at least, by 3:30 they had all the festival they could handle… HA! Fine with us Mudhook was a delight. They kinda took over a portion of the market with their brew tanks and had a three man band keyboard, electric violin and snare drum NICE sound. We got the sampler and quickly realized we aren’t STOUT people *gasp* now we know ;) We had corn and crabs while enjoying the music. From what we were told Saturday night is live music night so if you are in to it check them out. Service was a little slow but I think our server was new… or a bit introverted, I know odd job for an introvert. *shrug* FREEPARKING Saturdays to get folks in town. All in all I hope they do well, they have a nice vibe.

Wanted to like it better. The beer is good, though the red was much darker than I expected. They were sharply understaffed– empty tables while people were waiting to be seated. Food was decent and plentiful. The hog wings were nice. Everything came out quickly once ordered, but the wait staff was overloaded and it took time to get their attention. This was a Friday night.

My boyfriend and I absolutely love mud hook. It is our favorite place to relax, eat good food, and drink great beer and wine. The people are great and the atmosphere is always very happy. The owner is always there helping everyone out and staying involved. We have never had a bad experience and will be life long customers!

Wonderful evening– took a chance and just stopped in. We were pleasantly surprised and happy at how friendly the staff was and how good the food was! I recommend you get there early(we had to sit at the bar). Exactly what we wanted on the cold night — a good beer on tap and pub food.

The intersection of great beer and great food abbé found at Mudhook, if you are looking for a place that brews their own beer and uses fresh local ingredients to make your meal look no farther than this gem in York City, a must go to spot!!!

Server was nice but didn’t know much about the food. Not how it was made what we in it or where it comes from. But she was very friendly and got the answers from the kitchen. Not local food fyi. Salad that I ate was on the horrid side. Clearly from a bag and the meat was so spicy it was unpalatable. I believe it was a spicy chicken. I can handle my heart in food this was beyond what a normal mouth can take. Two of the people got a Shepard’s pie which had a complete lack of flavor. The final two people in our group for the fish and chips and said it was amazing crisp and flaky. The beer drinkers in the group suits the beer was sub par. Long and short this group will not be back, but if you go get the fish and chips.

The beers were okay. We went here on a weeknight for dinner around 7:30 and it took way too long to get our food. When it finally arrived, the bacon on my sandwich was so raw it didn’t look like they bothered to cook it. We are a little hesitant to return.

Beer: 3 stars Food: 2 stars Service: 0 stars We stopped by for a beer or two and something to munch on. We had been to Mudhook before, about a year ago, and it was OK, so we decided to return, since we were in the area. Not the best brewpub we’ve been to, but you’re in York, PA… beggars can’t be choosers. We should’ve known we were off to a bad start when it took the bartendress(Heather) a good ten minutes after we were seated at HER bar to ask us what we wanted to drink. We could tell from the tone in her voice: someone was having a bad day and didn’t want to be at work. She brought the beers, put them down, and walked away without saying a word. When I managed to get her attention again to ask if we could see menus, she sighed, reached behind her to the pile of menus, and slapped one between the two of us. Yes, that’s right, one. As if one of us was invisible. The drinking/eating experience continued down this same path: probably one of the rudest barkeeps I’ve experienced in a long time. On the flip side, we chatted with Jeff(apparently the owner) and he seemed quite pleasant, very welcoming. As for the food, it’s very uninspired pub grub. There’s a Thai place a block away. Eat there first. As for the beer, it’s not bad, but I wouldn’t go out of my way for it. It’s really too bad they don’t have some«guest» local products on tap, like Troegs, Victory, or SlyFox, all of which are light years better than what you’ll find here. But, bottom line: the crappy service will keep us away in the future.

I’ve been a fan of Mudhook since their opening… and I’ve been critical of their operation(privately, and several times) where it needed feedback. It has been months since I was in due to continued poor performance, even though I love their craft beer. This visit was a welcome change of pace… Heather was behind the bar for the first hour or so — very pleasant, friendly, talkative and exudes customer service — she knows what she’s doing! Jeff took over upon her departure and handled the bar and customers well. Granted, it was not a busy night for a Friday but the execution was a welcome improvement from my previous visits. The crab soup was outstanding, with a slice of beer bread on the side — get this! My burger was perfect although I still recommend a warm(er) bun for the best experience. The cook was singing and dancing to the tunes in the kitchen and showed that he was enjoying his evening too! The slaw side is improved — it is shredded finer now and has great flavor! A few people rotated through my corner of the bar and some were friends of Jeff’s…he treated us to a sample of the Hawg Wings, yes, we learned that pigs do fly! These are really unique and tasty options to the traditional chix wings — try them! Get a side of dipping sauce though as they are very meaty and lack the good sauce on the inside. Thank you Jeff! Thanks for an improved experience, I’ll be back soon! In closing, the Stout was a great starter and the IPA rocked!

We received some gift cards and decided to give this little pub a shot. Extremely friendly service. The good was very good pub style fare. The owner even brought our son out some ice cream for after lunch. Nice atmosphere. Will be back again.

I really like this place! I love that it is hidden and out of the way. I love that it is not easy to find, but it is so worth it when you arrive. I look forward to my beer flight and then ordering a pint of my favorite afterwards. I try to go at least once or twice a month to sample beers and and I also order their wings. My favs are the Caribbean wings which reminds me of Jerk Chicken which is a major favorite dish of mine. This place is a gem and I don’t want to share it with anyone! One note: I think the beer flights can be much colder when served. On the seveal occasions that I have been there, my flights were cold, but boarding on room temp if you let them sit more than 5 minutes. The servers are so friendly and there is always a smile. If you are looking for a quickie experience, this is not the place for you. I like that they take their time and between meal or drink delivery they just let you converse and chill. Haven’t been a fan of the live music though, but I’m biased against any pop song sung with a blue grass twang. If that’s your thing, then go for it.

Yes, one star. And that’s really only because I did enjoy their beers for the most part. However, I had to wait long enough to be recognized and have it served to me that I had a rather bitter taste in my mouth from the beginning. It started with trying to find the place. I was with a friend(both of us from out of town) and between the map I printed out and both of our GPS systems telling us where to «turn» we ended up going around the block several times. We were both so annoyed that I finally said, «Just pull over!» thinking we would just walk and find it since my GPS was telling me we were on top of the place. As soon as we parked the car, I got out to see a small sign on the corner for Mudhook Brewing with an arrow pointing down this alley. This, to our surprise, was Cherry Lane. The road we had been looking for. The street sign is not on the street, which would have been helpful. Instead, it is on the side of the Cental Market House. Ugh. They need better signage. All I wanted by this point was alcohol. We grabbed a table and waited. And waited. And waited. And waited. And… you get the point. There was only one other table occupied and some people at the bar. We watched the employees doing things that clearly could wait until after you attend to customers. Like pouring mustard from one jar to another. Seriously. After a long wait, we were finally acknowledged. But not by our server. Our server then came over, apologizing that she didn’t notice us. Except then we continued to wait for everything. We ordered samplers. There were not enough beers to explain the wait. We also ordered the cheese plate for $ 7. Being next to the Central Market House, we of course expected some delicious local cheese and breads. Instead, we were served cubed cheese that was nothing out of the ordinary(cheddar, pepper jack, swiss), crackers that came out of a box and the infamous honey mustard that they claim is their own recipe but really just tastes, as my friend commented, like it’s from Wendy’s. I would not recommend this place unless you just want to try the beers. And in that case, I would recommended only sitting at the bar where everything is right there and you can’t be ignored. Beware, Mudhook may say they open at 4pm, but they don’t start working until 5.
