I had the chicken phở and it was delicious! Rainy day, hard to go wrong with phở. Nice restaurant and very positive experience. Phở had great flavor and added some sauce but had great flavor to start with. Definitely recommend this place after one visit and I’m excited to try it again! Had the summer rolls and they were pretty good, but something about them was a little off– can’t put my finger on it. Will try again to see if my taste buds were being weird with them.

I wanted some phở on what was probably the hottest day of the year… lol. Anyway, called in a pick up order of phở and it was pretty tasty… a bit on the cinnamony side, but still tasty nonetheless. The ingredients, basil, bean sprouts, lime, etc were really fresh and packed up really well to travel. I will go back to try other dishes.

Great little spot hidden away in a quiet shopping center on Route 17. Their shrimp toast was super yummy & not overly greasy like some can be. I enjoyed a Vietnamese pork sandwich, which was super fresh & tasty, and a bargain at $ 3.50. My friends had the egg noodle and vermicelli dishes, and thoroughly enjoyed theirs as well. Both had so much food they were able to take home over half of their entrees for later enjoyment. The place was super quiet — I’m rather surprised at how empty it was, although it was somewhat early on a rainy Monday evening. Hopefully more people can discover this little hidden jewel so that the family can keep it going!

Love the easy, quick, cheap, good, spicy Vietnamese street pork sandwich. And FINALLY! Bubble tea! They only have a few flavors of boba tea, but very subtle, not too sweet, and so good. The owner is wonderful.

Le Bamboo Bistro is Vietnamese cuisine, and is owned by the same family who were the proprietors of the Spring Garden, at the same location. I did not realize this or would have gone much sooner because I loved Spring Garden. My friend and I went for lunch on Sat and we were the only customers. The atmosphere has been redone and is just as nice as it was before, but with a slightly different vibe. We both ordered spring rolls. My friend got the vegetarian and I got the traditional pork and they were truly some of the best I have ever had, and definitely better than any I’ve had in Virginia. They were long and rolled tightly and cooked to perfection. My friend liked hers just as much. We both ordered the fried rice noodle and shrimp. The portion was very generous and the flavors were mild. I had never had fried rice noodle and it was tasty. It had a nice light sauce on the vegetables and shrimp. The food flavors are delicate and attractively plated. Our meal with appetizer was $ 15. We were very pleased with the atmosphere which made it very nice to converse and enjoy our meal, but more customers would have still allowed it to be enjoyable because of the way it is laid out. It would be a nice place to go for a special meal or just to grab a bite with the family or friends. It is right in the same strip center as the very noisy and popular County Grill, so if you are up that way and don’t feel like waiting for a table at County Grill, head to the other end of the parking lot and try something new in a relaxing atmosphere. I will definitely return and will recommend that others make it a regular spot as well. It is way above the typical Asian food place in terms of ambiance, menu variety and service.

Skip the chains… this is the ONLY place to eat Phở in the Hampton Roads area. The restaurant is always very clean and the service is great! The basil, bean sprouts, etc. that come with the Phở are always very fresh. But don’t stop there… appetizers are wonderful, especially the shrimp/sweet potato and Spring Rolls. We routinely order the Vermicelli noodle bowl with either chicken or spring rolls for our 18 month old and he loves it. Don’t pass this place up if you are in the mood for Vietnamese food in a quiet/calm environment.

This is an authentic Vietnamise restaurant. I love how their food taste and smells. I could not find myself going to another restaurant in the peninsula area of Hampton Roads. I have tried their soups, summer rolls, and rice with chicken. All great food!

I was really hoping the previous reviews were not as accurate on the«Meh» level of the food in this place. I decided to give it a shot, especially since it’s super close to where I work. So I called and ordered a vermicelli bowl with pork thinking it’s a pretty safe option. I got there about 15 minutes later and the food was sitting at the front counter with no one manning it. Hmm. Okay, so weird that there was only one table filled all the way in the corner. Then came in a petite girl that spoke so mellow and practically whispered. Grabbed my food and left, thinking, I really shouldn’t judge so easily. Opening the to go box, it all looked good, delicious even. So I quickly grabbed the fork and went to town. The first bite, okay, next, eh. Lets get to the noodles, it was so soft and soggy, it was clearly overcooked. The sauce was mediocre, it felt like it was lacking that salty taste that you would typically get in a bun dish. The meat was not marinated long enough to soak in that vietnamese grilled meat taste. Not going to lie, I still managed to eat the whole thing, but I just felt like the whole thing could just use a bit more flavor. I’ll probably try another dish from them, maybe dine in and have a go with their phở. But for now, the two stars will stand.

I’ve eaten twice at this place now. I had the pork banh mis the first time and they were OK, which is acceptable for the price. The bread is different, more chewy/not as soft as what I’m used to, but the pork was good and full of lemon grass flavor. The second time I had banh xeo, which was also pretty decent. I just wished that the crêpe itself was a tad bit thinner and the lettuce leaves could have been bigger so I could actually wrap the banh xeo with it to dip in nuoc mam. Instead, I just poured the nuoc nam over the banh xeo then created lettuce boats. Fillings included shrimp, bean sprouts, and I don’t remember what else. I’d eat it again if I got a craving for it. Size of the banh xeo was OK, but kind of pricey for what you get? My boyfriend, who was with me for the second visit, had phở. He says he likes the broth better than Phở 79’s. I tasted it too, and I also approved. He wants to make this our regular place for Vietnamese food. We also had the mango slush with tapioca pearls. The slush was good, but we were hoping for the milk tea kind. The décor of the place is kinda cute if you like old Chinese decorations, which I do appreciate. Overall impression: the food is decent, will visit again.

I tried the small bowl of phở tai, summer rolls, and Vietnamese fried egg rolls. Phở was very tasty. Definitely would recommend the phở. Summer rolls were good — instead of mint, I think they put basil in it – a bit pungent for me, but it was fresh and still tasted good. The peanut sauce tasted good, but more«watery» than I’m used to. Egg rolls were good. Service was courteous and prompt.

I’ve tried this place twice now and I’m still not quite impressed as I would like. It’s right around the corner from my work, so quick and cheap take out spots are essential, and I was really hoping this place would keep me from going all the way to Jefferson Commons to get Banh mi from Phở 79. The first experience was quick and effortless. I got a Banh mi and spring rolls; the sandwich barely had any meat on it even though the bread and toppings were good. They also forgot the sauce for my rolls in the bag so I had to eat those plain. The second time I called, I was going to try the Banh mi again and maybe mention to put some extra meat on it, but I was told that there were no Banh mi that day. This was in prime lunch hour! I ended up getting a small Phở Tai Nam and spring rolls, which wasn’t bad but lacked a lot of the flavour I’m used to from other Phở places. I will give them credit for offering a small for take out though, because that’s one thing that kills me ordering from Phở 79. Sometimes I just want a little, not a lot. Overall I’m not really impressed, and I’m not sure if the general public is either since I never see anyone eating inside or cars out front when I drive by to head home from work.

I think it’s the best Phở I’ve ever had — and I’ve sampled just about every Vietnamese restaraunt in Hampton Roads. Good flavor and always served steaming hot, with lots of fresh sides. The service is wonderful — quick, attentive and unintrusive. Prices are very reasonable. It’s a lovely little spot, nice and quiet. Good place to come with a book if you’re by yourself.

I was craving some American food today but somehow ended up at a Vietnamese restaurant. This is where I fail at being Asian. Apparently, spring rolls are fried. I always associated spring rolls as the fresh. But fresh spring rolls are called summer rolls. So now spring rolls and summer rolls are the same to me. Take note… I was craving summer rolls but ended up with spring rolls and then ended up eating the spring rolls and then ordered summer rolls to satisfy my craving. Anyway, I ended up with both spring rolls and summer rolls at lunch today. Each order comes with two and are $ 4/piece. Spring rolls, eh. Summer rolls, super. For your money, go for the summer rolls. Inside there are four pieces of shrimp and has a little kick to it. I ordered the grilled pork chops as my meal(as if I didn’t already have enough food). My first bite was absolutely terrible and I thought I was going to have one crappy experience but the next bite was better and the meal ended up being okay. For $ 8, you get a decent amount of food. Decent. Not good. Not bad.

I went to Le Bamboo Bistro for lunch today. I thought the restaurant was nice and pretty good prices for lunch. I had the summer spring rolls, which were large and had 2, ½’d shrimp per roll. They were delicious and the sauce was warm and complimented the summer rolls well. I also had the house vermicelli, it had shrimp, pork and beef. It was terrific and just as good if not better than Pho79 in NN. My Co-workers were also very very please with their Grilled shrimp and rice dish, sandwich and crêpe. The crêpe was a little thicker than usual but had very good flavor. I think coconut milk and tamarind, filled with shrimp onion and a few other things. I wanted to try it but I hoarded the spring rolls so I felt bad to ask for a real bite of the crêpe. :D The only reason I gave Le Bamboo Bistro a 3 is because the service was pretty slow for a lunch place, service needs to be a little speedier so people can get in and out and back to work. They just opened so they might get more server providers once people start raving about about this restaurant.

Le Bamboo Bistro sits in the space formerly occupied by a Chinese restaurant, and looks like it still could be one until the food reaches the table. Where some«Fusion» places really are confusion spaces, this one is the Real Deal when it comes to Vietnamese food. We ordered Summer Rolls, which were lightly wrapped in rice paper so the shrimp inside could easily be seen. The Peanut Sauce complemented it perfectly. Three of us had a small Phở Ga(Chicken). The broth was the clear variety, and all the ingredients were fresh and plentiful. The side plate with Basil leaves, Sprouts, Lime and Jalapeño was overflowing. My son had the plain Chicken Noodle Soup without any additions, and he was also quite happy. The only downside was the Saigon Crêpe app. Rather than having the consistency of a light pancake, it appeared and was textured more like an omelet, and was a mild disappointment. My sister ordered the Grilled House Special with Rice, consisting of Pork, Beef and Shrimp over Rice. The meat was thin sliced and grilled with a light basting of a good bbq/hoisin sauce. When dipped in additional sauce at the table and mixed with the rice, it was excellent. To finish it off, I had Vietnamese Coffee, dripped brewed at the table with a layer of Condensed Milk at the bottom to be mixed together before drinking. Very well done. All in all, a very satisfy meal and experience for New Year’s Eve. We chatted with the owner for a few minutes to get his explanation of the changes, and to wish him success in his venture. If I lived nearby, Le Bamboo Bistro would make my list of regular food stops. It certainly will be a place I want to return to on our next visit to Newport News.

I visited Vietnam and I have tasted their best food first hand. Le Bamboo Bisto is the best Vietnamese restaurant in Hampton Roads. Its such a quiet relaxing spot. Great service as well. I like it because its more authentic than phở 79. Love it! Im headed to Korea soon so ive been eating here as much as i can before i leave!
