Lori Cagwin Landscape Architecture

Lori began working with us on our St Helena projects in 2015. We researched other landscape architects but found that Lori’s design creativity, communication skillset and attention to creative detail were clear differentiators. Lori’s leadership with the landscape teams we have hired proved invaluable. Lori is a professional with a deep knowledge of plant material combined with a great comprehension of infrastructure like irrigation, lighting and hardscape. Her creative judgment along with a solid understanding of traditional and drought tolerant landscape has proven to be valuable through these projects. We will continue to use Lori on additional projects on our 44 acre St Helena property. These projects will vary is size and scope, from 10,000 square foot gardens, lagoons and amenities to green belts and even drought tolerant templates for our homeowners. I have worked with Lori on four projects over the past 10 years. Each one has turned out differently. One, a drought tolerant water conserving garden was sustainable and gorgeous! Another, a housing development in Yountville, she was so easy to work with through the design process. Recently, she designed a very cool modern metal garden project that was absolutely stunning. Most recently, we hired her to design our new home. She was fantastic to work with and I am so grateful that we have such a good design with great experience. Lori designed my front yard 2 years ago, removing a mostly all grass yard into a low water, drought resistant changeover. I love her work but was not able to quite communicate what I truly look for. She tried t make it right but it still needed several tweaks, ongoing.

I started working with Lori in late 2012 due to referrals from architects that I was working with in Sonoma County. I had moved from San Diego and didn’t know anyone in the area.
I met with 4 different landscape architects and chose Lori from those meetings. All of them came highly recommended but what stood out with Lori was that she paid very close attention to what I was looking for. Each of the other three had agendas of their own that may have been good but when I work with a design professional it is critical to me that they provide what I’m seeking.
My initial project was a large acreage with several buildings, new pool, spa, gardens etc. set in a wooded setting. I was looking for a very organic looking landscape that tied the buildings to the natural surroundings. I love the design that Lori came up with. It took into account what I was looking for, including drought resistant plantings that are the least susceptible to deer as well as creating a design that enhanced the overall site.
I’m currently on my second project with her, a charming cottage type home on a large lot in St Helena. The job here was completely different. The place is in the city, just off the downtown area with a large lot. The goal was creating a warm, cottage-​like feel with profusions of color and shapes to give it a country cottage like charm and feel.
Lori is very easy to work with and really pays attention to what you want. She will be staying on my list of professionals I work with on projects that require landscaping.
