Maybe I’m only saying this because I just moved to Ypsi from northern New Mexico where Chinese food is relatively non-existent but I loved Golden Wall. I got the vegetarian General Tso’s and my man got the chicken fried rice. Both were delicious. Great texture on the fake meat, with a not-too-sweet sauce. The fried rice was neither bland nor overly salty– two common pitfalls of said dish. We ordered take out so we didn’t have too much interaction with the staff but what we did experience was totally acceptable, service-wise and the speediness was good. I’ll be trying them again in the near future. Szechuan veggie chicken, me thinks.

So I’d give their food a five star rating if I could separate it from their delivery service. I refuse to order delivery anymore because they have a driver who is SORUDE it’s ridiculous! I’ve ordered from here over 20 times since I work near by, and while they have a couple very nice drivers it’s the ONE guy who works the most and delivers my food when I’m crossing my fingers he won’t. I don’t know his name but he has a shaved head, I wish I did so I could put him on blast and warn people about his atrocious attitude. He gives you rude comments if you tip less than $ 4 and has NEVER said thank you for ANY tip. Can’t stand him, and its a shame because they have great food!

I don’t understand the positive reviews. Just ordered from here. It’s definitely cheap and fast, but even for your standard Chinese food, it was pretty bad. The vegetable fried rice was incredibly bland, the egg drop soup tasted purely of egg yolk, and the almond chicken was just okay. We will not be ordering from here again.

My fiancé and I finally got around to trying this restaurant out. We decided to order for pickup, the menu is huge, so it took us a while to decide what we wanted. We both settled on combination items which include one entrée, fried rice, your choice of soup, and an eggroll. I placed my order and he told me it would be ready in ten minutes! So we picked it up, and took it home. The food was hot and smelled delicious. The food was also well secured in it’s packaging, which is very important. What a pleasant surprise! We both enjoyed our dishes, including our soups and eggrolls. I, the pepper steak, and she, the sweet and sour chicken. We will certainly order from here again. Good location, reasonable price, decent Chinese food!

Good food, efficient service, and quaint interior. The staff is friendly as well as accommodating. The menu is expansive so there is something for everyone. That said this isn’t a place where I’ve loved every dish. The fried rice is excellent you can taste all the ingredients, though this shop opts for sliced pork rather than twice cooked in their dishes. The chicken wings and dumplings are tasty and unique. The lo mein is not as flavorful as I’d like nor are some of the spicy entrees spicy enough. Big winners here are the fried rice, orange chicken, lemon chicken, pork dumplings, and chicken wings.

Best Chinese food I’ve ever had! The boiled pork dumplings and orange chicken! Can’t wait to try more next time!

i found a rubber band in my fried rice, but the fried rice was so delicious that I simply removed the rubber band and continued to smash. I love you anyway, Golden Wall.

Ate here a few times. Food is okay and is hot. Whenever I call they are rude on the phone. When I did carry out the lid came off my egg drop soup and got all over my new pants. This would not of happened had the food been packaged correctly. My change was also virtually thrown into my hand. I’m gonna try some other places. Two stars!

Totally solid food. They’re so nice, they’re quick and the food was hot. Eat here so they stay open forever.

Hands down, best Chinese restaurant in Ypsilanti. Always fast, inexpensive, and reliable. I have never had a meal from Golden Wall that I haven’t liked! They have gotten me through countless breakups and my broke undergrad days. I would recommend it to anyone

My partner gets delivery from here to Eastern pretty frequently, so I was expecting seriously great things when we came for dine-in. Honestly, this place just isn’t made for that. Sure, there are tables, chairs, and booths. Sure, there’s even sauces on the table and they seem to have cups or whatever. But no, they probably don’t want you to eat in. When we came in, there were no other customers. Cool. They asked for our order as soon as we walked in, so we stood there awkwardly reading over the menu for a bit. Once we made our decision and informed them that we would be dining in, they told us to take a seat. I asked for water, and was then told to wait. I was given a small plastic cup(when they had regular cups), and room temperature water was poured from a pitcher. Uh, okay. I sat down, and drank my water. After sitting with an empty cup for about 5 minutes, I figured no one was coming to refill it. When I walked back up to the counter to ask for more, I was told to get it myself from a cart near the register. Perhaps it’s because they were assisting another customer, but it was just really strange to me for dining in. When we finally received our food, it came in take out containers. I got the Vegetarian Lemon Chicken, and I really hated it. It was sweet and had pineapple, which I wasn’t expecting. My fault, though; I should have asked. My partner got Vegetarian General Tso’s Chicken, so we traded. The General Tso’s Chicken didn’t have very much sauce, but came with a very large serving of rice. Their vegetarian chicken is fantastic. I almost thought I was eating real chicken! Aside from the chicken, the meal was pretty average. That coupled with the almost non-existent service means I likely won’t return for dine-in, and the average meal means I probably won’t get take-out or delivery either. It’s pretty safe to say that Golden Wall is overrated.

Easily the best Chinese food in area. Great fried rice and crab Rangoon! Also love their panfried noodles. Cheap delivery and great service. I order here all the time and when I call I don’t even have to give my address because they remember me from my phone number. I’ve tried other Chinese places in Ypsilanti and they don’t compare to Golden Wall!

I’d say it’s overrated according to the reviews here. True, it has vegetarian options, including a chicken substitute for any chicken dish. The food I got was average and not particularly plentiful or economical. The person manning the cash register and serving patrons was too bored to pay much attention; i.e., service was poor. Someone seated two booths down was yelling into a phone in what I took to be a very long conversation in Chinese. My vegan companion on this outing was by far the best feature, exogenously, of this place.

I love this place! It’s a Chinese restaurant with a full menu for vegetarians. Don’t think you’re limited to the veggie menu at the register — you can order almost anything on the menu as vegan… and you’ve got it! I’m partial to the vegan General Tso’s Chicken. The price is reasonable and the service is usually pretty quick. The one catch, however, is that I don’t think I have ever been there without hearing crazy staff conversations. Maybe there’s yelling in the kitchen, maybe there’s a chronicle of bizarre personal financial experiences, maybe there’s a barrage of unsettling cultural generalizations… basically, it’s a super casual atmosphere for the workers as well as the patrons. So don’t be surprised if there’s a lot going on around you. Oh… and a personal favorite of mine: the fortunes in their cookies are usually actual fortunes! I hate it when a cookie tells me what to do or just spouts some lame platitude. You’re a fortune cookie, tell me that my future brings me closer to my true path or whatever.

I’m not a vegetarian, but the«vegetarian» menu is amazing — I will always order from it instead of the menu with the meat dishes. Here’s how that came about; my friend ordered the vegetarian General Tso chicken(meat substitute) for herself and I ordered the regular General Tso Chicken(meat) for myself. Now get this; her dish was BETTER than mine! It was the same dish except for replacing the meat with the meat substitute! I was so stunned that I considered becoming vegetarian. But then I remembered bacon. Anyhow, this place is a bit«divey» but the service is friendly, the value is good and I will be back. I SERIOUSLY suggest the Vegetarian General Tso Chicken. Cheers!

Golden Wall is a staple in Ypsilanti — a legitimately good, personable, and affordable chinese place. It is right off campus, making it accessible even for residents of the university. The food is of impressive quality and the people are very kind. The real kicker, of course, is the vegan menu that is available in the restaurant. The faux beef and chicken is especially delicious; they do some good tofu, as well! Ordering from the vegan menu costs a bit more than I prefer from a takeout joint(so I often will get Hidden Dragon instead) but it is ENTIRELYWORTHIT, nonetheless. You won’t regret stopping by — make a good life decision today.

Question: is Golden Wall actually good? Or is Golden Wall good because it is the best Chinese restaurant in an area with poor Chinese options? Having lived both as an omnivore and a vegetarian I will confess — their vegetarian food is the tops.(My favourite: Vegetarian General Tso’s — wow!) The family who owns and operates Golden Wall are very kind and caring and will go out of their way to treat you well. Another question, though: what the hell is with those peppers? Couldn’t the peppers be cut smaller or cooked longer? The vibe of the place is… not the cleanest. But I’m more impressed with the restaurant than many other more reputable dinner spots. Food isn’t «amazing» but it’s consistent — and that counts!

My fiancée and I moved to the area… well, yesterday. We were exhausted from unpacking, didn’t feel like cooking due to the state our kitchen was in, and were pretty low on cash from paying our first month’s rent. We’re also big fans of American-style Chinese takeout. Golden Wall was the cure for all of that and more. The place is small, but it’s family-owned, open later than a lot of Chinese places. We walked in and the girl waiting the cash register talked to us for a few minutes — extremely friendly. Our order came out in less than 10 minutes, and we walked home. We got the Orange Chicken and the Sweet & Sour chicken. Both were awesome. We got enough for the two of us to share. I like my sweet & sour chicken with green pepper and pineapple, and the serving had plenty of both to satisfy me. The orange chicken was perfectly cooked and had nice meaty-sized portions. Once the dust had settled from the meal, we were both full, but in a satisfied way, not in an «I’m gonna barf» way that you get from some Chinese places. And the funny thing was that it remained that way hours later — it didn’t leave us starving after an hour like you usually get with Chinese food — so we went to bed, still satisfied. Ladies and gentlemen — we have a winner, walking distance from our house.

I am not a fan of Chinese restaurants in the area, so I was pleasantly surprised to find this little«hole in the wall» in Ypsi near my work. Consistently yummy, awesome meals, great curry and Hunan dishes, pleasant staff, they deliver, and, when you eat in, you really know you’re supporting a family business!(mom’s cooking, son’s taking your order, dad’s delivering, daughter’s answering the phone…) Although I haven’t tried it(I’m allergic to wheat), I hear their vegan and veggie entrees are amazing. Across from EMU — quick delivery!

Hiked over to Golden Wall from the EMU Student Center for lunch to check out the tofu sesame«chicken». This turned out to be a great decision! The sesame tofu was amazing! My friend has had the the crispy duck in the best and swears by it. It was Thursday so I was sticking to tofu. In addition to being delicious it was super affordable. $ 5 for lunch was a good choice.
