This is a great down home mom-and-pop taco shop. We tried lengua, pollo, pastor, carne asada, and carnitas tacos with cilantro and onion ONLY. If you want cheese and sour cream on your tacos, this is not the place for you. I thought the salsas were tasty. Of the selections I had, I would most strongly recommend the pork and chicken options. Horchata and Jamaica were a little on the sweet side, but still tasty.

Great authentic Mexican food. I’m from Cali so it’s not easy to find legit Mexican food in MI, but yet I found hope here! Must give it a try! Their asada tortas and tacos are bomb and their horchata is awesome too!

Excellent authentic Mexican fare! The tamales and tacos are fantastic and the prices for everything are extremely reasonable which is fantastic being that this located very close to EMU. Highly recommended!

I worked in a Mexican restaurant as a busboy for over a year. I learned to love food there. We would get free food often, and rather than the bland Texmex food that would be sent out to our(mostly) American customers, they would make us these delicious corn tortilla tacos. This tastes exactly like what they would make me at 8 pm as I mopped up those floors. The jefe here definitely knows what he’s doing. If you’ve never been to a taqueria before, go here. Please.

Since I first started going here, they’ve also added fish and shrimp tacos to the menu, along with camarones a la diabla(spicy shrimp in their shells, served with rice and beans. The fish tacos are good, but the shrimp tacos are some of the tastiest I’ve ever had anywhere! The camarones a la diabla are also awesome and will definitely wake up your mouth.

Great flavour in each meat option. Orange salsa is the perfect complement. My reccomendation is the tripe taco. It’s crispy and delicious!

Great, authentic Mexican food. Better than all other local taquerias and many from Detroit. The food is always fresh and they make it right in front of you. The owners are really friendly and welcoming. Definitely worth going more towards ypsi to get excellent tacos.

Best tacos in the area. And I’ve had them all. Wedged between Lover’s Lane and a liquor store, the carne asada might be the best I’ve ever had. The menu is simple; mostly tacos, burritos, tortas and tamales. They do have random specials on the weekend, though. I’ve liked to loved everything I’ve had, but I keep coming back to those carne asada tacos. Two corn tortillas packed full of perfectly marinated, tender steak, dressed with onions, cilantro and lime. So. Damn. Good.

I don’t like this place. Tamales are rock hard. Tacos are very dry. Fair to say that Asada was ok. The sauce was thick but it is not that good. I highly RECOMMEND Tmaz Taqueria, Period!!!

We had delicious pozole on a Sunday for lunch; cheap melt-in-the-mouth tamales and enormous horchata. The owners were really friendly.

My boyfriend says: two stars. Go for when you’re hungry and want a cheap meal. I say: I love this place! The people working are always really nice and welcoming. I love the taste of the asada, chicken and pastor — I really think it’s some of the best around. The burrito, tacos and quesadillas are some of my favorite things to order(basically the entire menu since it isn’t that big). I also always order either the horchata or Jamaica drinks.

Their food was amazing! The tacos were the best I’ve had in the area. The tortas are also really good. This place is a hole in the wall but the staff are incredibly friendly and helpful. In a nutshell, the food is cheap, fast, and amazingly delicious. You can’t go wrong with this place.

Cheap and good :) Service is usually very fast. Tamales(at time of writing) are delicious, huge, and only 1.50! I’m a 190 lb guy and I’m full after 3. They occasionally have specials like soup, so be on the watch out for that :)

Interesting location, right next to sex shop«Love Land», but stumbled upon this hole-in-the-wall when in the vicinity and searching Unilocal for a place for dinner. Unilocal for the win! I am not a taco expert, but just from the places around that we’ve tried(Tmaz, etc), this place is top notch. The tacos had generous portions of meat, and you can see it all prepped in front of you as you wait, as their kitchen is right behind the cashier. FYI the tacos currently are now $ 1.99/each, as of the writing of this review. I noticed from the other Unilocaler pix, that the price keeps going up every few months, so we’ll see if they stay or will change soon. Between two of us, we ate 5 tacos and a torta asada and were more than stuffed. We tried: Asada — beef Carnitas — pork Al pastor — pork marinated Chorizo — sausage All of them were delicious, that we had to order acouple more, despite how full we were. I can’t even pick a favorite, I personally liked both the Asada and al pastor because of their flavor, but you can’t go wrong with any of them. They also had options like lengua which i wanted to try, but next time! As for the torta asada we got, it was a hearty sandwich that also included generous amounts of pickled jalapeño and carrots in addition your typical lettuce and tomato toppings.

This is as close to Chicago and San Diego, I have tasted in the Ann Arbor area. Absolutely, love this place, their carne asada has a great marinade and it makes all the difference when cooked, something TMAZ or Taco king fail to do. The pastor is also cooked much better here than the other two places, I mentioned. Their torta’s are great and the tamales are freshly made, my favorite is the queso tamale which is loaded with cheese and serano peppers for a nice kick. Their rojo and verde salsa’s are spot on, so glad to have this spot as my official go to taqueria. For to long, I have been stuck with La fiesta, TMAZ, and king taco’s. Also look for their weekend specials, they usually offer a menundo, pozole, or sometimes a barabocoa.

Pretty good, but like some others, I’m inclined to put this a notch below Tmaz. The burritos here are $ 4.99(or $ 5.29 after 6% tax), which sounds cheap, until you realize they are not the big fat American-style burritos but the smaller flatter sort. Most of the tacos are $ 1.79(or $ 1.90 after 6% tax), which I believe is similar to any low-end-but-authentic-Mexican competitor in the A2/Ypsi area. They sell horchata but strangely it wasn’t on the blackboard menu above so you’ll have to ask for it. It was a bit too sweet for my liking though.

this place has delicious tamales for a super affordable price. i tried the Pollo and the Puerco, both were amazing. i wish the menu featured quacamole and chips. i stopped in to get a feel for the place, but with such a small dining area, i see myself ordering pick up or delivery rather than dining in.

Had the lengua, pork carnitas and pork pastor tacos for carry out. All pretty good and some tender meats, some dry. Would hv liked sauce to-go too and cashier woman said they don’t hv tamarind juice. A small Bummer but overall, we’ll return d/t proximity from our home!

Excellent Tacos and Tamales at incredibly low prices. I have been to just about every taco spot in the Ypsi/Arbor area and La Torre is definitely the best value at the time of this review. Portions are very generous and food is fresh and served piping hot. Tamales are just $ 1.25 and you will be full after 2. Burritos are enormous and only $ 4. Tacos vary in price but are all very reasonable and quite generously portioned. I just hope they can maintain this level of quality once this little spot is discovered by the masses.
