The tap room is a local bar and yes it’s doesn’t always smell the best when you are there. Not really sure why that is, but I use to order their chicken wings. As of late, they have been very fatty and not cooked well enough for me. But I started ordering the fried pickles and I have been very impressed with them. The wait staff are by far awesome. They remember your name and try their best to get your food to you quickly. I enjoy their cocktails and will try to find something else on their menu. Overall, I give the tap room a thumbs up. I only hope they start ordering leaner chicken wings that aren’t so fatty. I really miss getting them there. Love to mix the barbecue and hot sauce together. I will continue to go there, as it is a safe and cozy environment.

Two pinball machines, rotated out periodically. Five stars right there. They do a drag queen bingo that’s a super fun place to take your grandma and gets her so flustered she doesn’t notice you knocked back 5 long islands. The food is standard bar fare, it’s nothing special, but it does hit the spot. They have super cheap drink specials during happy hour and later. They usually have the after party for First Friday(an art gallery and store crawl the city does in the warmer parts of the year) and that’s always a blast, live music space to dance. And the crowd is always a really bizarre mix of young and old, hipsters and sports bar regulars. But really, the pinball and multiarcade machine are my main reason for coming here.

Neighborhood dive bar. Friendly, good beers and always a good time. Rebecca cupcake is a sweetheart

The drinks are cheap and STRONG. Also, there are pool tables and other games to play. Very good place to go with a group of friends. Food is nothing special– just bar food. But if you want to drink, this is the place to go!

Lackluster service and small portions A really nice looking classic bar that has the service of a dive. Despite a relatively empty bar we had to wave down the bartender and ask for menus. The food came out fast but the portions were diminutive, literally 17 fries for $ 3. I plan on trying it again based on the many good reviews but as of now I would not recommend this place unless you like small portions and distracted waitstaff. Major highlights of this place are the large seating area, pool tables, drink specials, and the fresh pretzels.

The staff were very rude and the customers were quite obnoxious, the darts were missing and when we had asked for assistance in locating some, we were barked at by the bartender. Their liquor selection was extremely limited as well. I’d look to a different bar for a fun night out.

Fun hang out-food well that could be an issue. Service is excellent here really great staff. Ordered bruschetta(not really-more like a half a Baguette with stuff piled on, kind of reminded me of stouffers French bread pizza. The hummous is delicious-spicy! Ordered a side of fresh veg with it. Came with a plate of blanched veg. I tried to say these aren’t raw but was told raw. There’s no way! All in all its a great place to hang out. I guess next time I’ll try a different menu item and see if my thoughts on the food improves.

This is my favorite dive bar in the area. It’s always full of local interesting characters representative of the community, and they truly create quite an ambiance which is what I look for in a local townie dive bar. It may be an understatement to say that they never under pour when it comes to their mix drinks if you catch my drift. I feel like I’m always a «cheap date» whenever I leave. My wallet appreciates that. And their food is above and beyond for what one would call standard pub fare. I am docking a star from this review simply because there are quite a few menu items that are 86’d that my wife and I used to really enjoy, such as the Mexican pizza. And from working in the service industry I understand an establishment’s need to streamline and consolidate a menu based upon sales, labor, and ticket order times, but it’s still a bummer from a consumer’s perspective to see great menu items disappear. Either way, it always seems like a good idea to come hang out here if I’m looking for a cheap stiff drink in a laid back unpretentious atmosphere.

My favorite bar. Hard working bartenders with Sincere smiles… Working class folk. My salt of the earth…

Cool dive bar feel, big liquor selection, but not the best service. The bartender left to smoke a cigarette with 10+ people at the bar and 2 tables, then came back in and started making drinks again without washing his hands– this was my first time there.

A little something for most people! Good cheep drinks, good service, plenty of space and friendly. Great place to hang out with a group or play pool.

I only really go here with my friends to play pool and honestly it’s just not for me. The atmosphere is a strange mix of regulars young and old. Rather uncomfortable«hello“s from old men too. If it wasn’t for my friends I wouldn’t ever go here. The set up is as if it was 3 seperated stores combined. No problems with the waiters/waitresses they are good. It’s just not a special bar to me.

I was in town with some friends for a race. After the run we were looking for something to eat and everyone wanted a burger. We saw The Tap Room and made our way inside. From the moment we walked in everyone was very nice and welcoming. We were a bit worried it would be a locals only type place but not at all. They were very busy and yet our server was still nice and attentive. The food(we all had the Tap Burger) was really tasty and at a very reasonable price. Next time I am out that way I will absolutely stop back in.

Visited here for the first time a few months ago for a board game night. Very cool little bar with friendly staff and very reasonable prices on drinks :) This is a place I could see coming to to hang out with friends to play pool or just to sit around and chat over drinks.

There are two types of people who can explain Tap Room, people who love the place and people who super doper love the place! It’s a very unpretentious place with a nice diverse mix of clientele. I’ve been here to catch a few games on TV and enjoy a cold one. It’s the type of place where everyone there is having a great time together or relaxing, just enjoying life. You can mix and mingle and enjoy conversations with strangers here, everyone seems nice. It’s also the type of place where you can hide in a booth by yourself, do some soul searching, and enjoy the game and take in the atmosphere. Whenever I see that Iconic neon sign on Michigan Ave, I will remember of the past few times I had there, take a nice warm breath and smile. Tap Room makes me smile.

All right. I’ve been a bad townie. I’ve been living in Ypsi for seven years solid and I have for reasons beyond my cognition been neglecting this place for the last two or so of those years. I used to come out back in my undergraduate days and I loved it — cheap drink specials that are according to days of the week rather than times of day, for one, and the only place in town that pours heavier-handed than Sidetrack, for two. What wasn’t to love? Well, nothing, which is why I can’t believe I’ve been away so long. Anyway, recently stopped back in for some Thursday draft specials, real talk with my better half, and some chow. There was a Coconut Porter on that was simply excellent, and the prices were exactly comparable to Sidetrack. Also the food was cheap, vegan-friendly, and highly flavorful. Winning scores all around. Our waiter — whose name, regretfully, I didn’t get — was friendly, attentive, and damned good. Spot on showing for the Taproom. Both the lady and I had a wonderful experience. Plus, there’s Pool if you want and even a couple arcade games(I fancy the Mrs. Pacman classic.) If you are looking to get drunk cheap, find a good meal, or just enjoy a good chat in a low-key environment, Taproom nails it all around, and it has been doing so successfully for years. Upon my return, I think I may have found a new regular summer place.

If I lived in Ypsi, I think I’d really appreciate this place, and patronize it often. Cheap drinks(even on weekends) and a relaxed, dive atmosphere. Didn’t try the food but it looked pretty good. Everyone is welcome here — from college kids up to retired old men you can tell are probably there every single night. No muss, no fuss… just good folks and strong drinks. (the neon martini glass sign on the outside gives illusion it’s a martini bar. don’t be fooled — it’s far from it.)

Decent dive bar. The food is ok… about what you would expect for a place like this. Our server was really nice, so that was a plus.

My local Ypsilanti watering hole. Have had the pleasure to be here a few times, a much cleaned up version of what it formerly was(or so I am told from long time Ypsilanti regulars). I’ve been here for some NFL games, NCAA games, and each time there was plenty of room and good food to enjoy. Priced reasonably and good value food. Try it out if you are in the area.

It took me a little while before I ever visited the Tap Room. I’ve lived here most of my life and a lot of my friends frequent this place, so it was about time I gave it a try. I’ve only ever visited here during my lunch hour, so I cannot comment on the overall vibe of the place, but the food is VERY good! I’ve tried a few different things from the menu and everything I’ve had has been top notch(the Mexican meatloaf is legendary… and I mean it). It can take a little while to get your food, but they always provide pretty good service, which makes up for the wait. It is a refreshing place to go for lunch, get out of the office, and feel like you are back in the real world… because the Tap Room is as real as it gets. I have to agree with the other reviewers by saying this place is a total dive bar, but in the best way possible.
