I’ve been a student at EMU the past two years, and this has been the GO-TO for my friends and I. I can honestly say this is the best breakfast/lunch spot I have ever been to. Great food, and great people, and affordable prices! Thank you GE!

What set’s this place aside to me was the service, and most importantly the involvement and energy of the owner. This young guy was cooking, seating people, serving, cashing people out, and cheerfully interacting with staff and patrons. The place was very busy, and the one drawback I saw was that there were two entrances with lines of people, but nobody taking name or really managing seating. It was sort of chaotic in that respect. This was the difference between a 3 and a 4 star rating for me. The food was pretty good for your standard breakfast fare. Hot, fresh, and well prepared for a decent price. What more can I ask for. Give it a try, and don’t be afraid to sit at the counter!

We were looking for a good place for breakfast in the area. We decided to go here based in the prior Unilocal reviews. We weren’t disappointed! I got the Golden Egg skillet and my wife got the French Toast. They both were excellent! Our waitress, Sheryl was very knowledgable, personable, and attentive to our needs. The prices were really affordable for the quality of what we ordered. I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend this place to others and look forward to dining there again in the future.

This is a diner so I’ll sum it up plain and simple. Great service, food is served quickly, and the portions are generous. Their prices are the best in the area and as a result I quickly became a weekend regular.

I drive by this place everyday on my way to work for the past two + years and always wanted to stop in and grab some breakfast. Well last week I did and I wish I didn’t wait so long to do so. The atmosphere was very cozy and family owned feeling. Everyone was very friendly and nice who worked there. The attentiveness of our waitress that day was not the best but none the less like I mentioned before everyone was very friendly. I ordered and really enjoyed one of their breakfast skillets. It was surprisingly a very good sized helping of food that I could barely even finish. When we were leaving and walking out the door we were told by several staff members to have a great day and were thanked for coming in. That I feel was just the icing on the cake… I will deff be going back again And did I mention for a party of two, full breakfast meals and drinks etc our whole bill was only like 14 or 15.00??? Talk about a great deal!!! :)

The Golden Egg is an affordable, friendly place to have a great breakfast. I have been here numerous times, and at each experience I have been impressed with the genuine friendliness and welcoming atmosphere. I mention breakfast because that is what they are named for, but in no way is that meant to imply that is all they are good for. They have a great variety of options for lunch(my favorite being the cheese steak hoagie). I readily recommend this establishment to anyone hungry in the area.

I live in the area and have been here many times. Service is awesome every single time and the food is even better. I can only comment on their breakfast food because it is all I have had. I prefer their omelette selection… They are all good but I prefer the Western. Great family restaurant for breakfast… I will be back

I may not be a classy broad, and I’m not ashamed to admit that I love the ambiance of an old-school diner, and prefer it to the vibe of a hip brunch place. The Golden Egg fits the bill perfectly! This place serves classic(typical) breakfast items, all very good. I got the«special» early bird plate, which includes eggs, hashbrowns, toast, and a meat(they let me go halvsies on my meat, so I got both ham and bacon). Add in a coffee and you have a damn good breakfast for under $ 7.

Happened upon this spot via a search for«Breakfast» in my Unilocal app. I have driven past this place probably 100 times in my lifetime and never really even considered stopping in. That is really a testament to the Unilocal app IMO. It gets you out of the same old same old and encourages you to try new places. Anyhow, we stopped in here on a Saturday morning at just the right time because there was nobody there. My old lady was like, are you sure this is the right place? Within 5 minutes of sitting down the lot filled up and it was standing room only. Told ya so, I said confidently. I had the corned beef hash with scrambled eggs. Hash had a nice crust on it but it was clearly canned which was unfortunate. Eggs were cooked well and I asked for my potatoes well done and most of them were. I hate soggy hash browns. My girl had the Golden Egg breakfast which is your standard coney island breakfast special — eggs, meat, potatoes and toast. She’s pretty particular about her eggs which she asked for over medium and much to my relief they were cooked perfectly. I would of been dealing with attitude the rest of the day if they f’d up her eggs so, thank you very much for knowing how to cook eggs. The one thing I will say about all of the stuff we had was that it was seriously under seasoned. Don’t get me wrong I’d rather have to apply my own rather then end up with a salty mess but there was literally not a grain of salt or pepper on anything. Maybe their bread and butter is senior citizens which would probably make sense as to why everything starts off so bland. Our bill was $ 17 for 2 meals and a coffee and you get a ton of food. I was a little disappointed to see the upcharge for an English muffin and the onions we got on our potatoes but if they need an extra $.50 that bad it’s not going to break me. Overall it was a pretty nice meal, it didn’t knock my socks off but our drinks were always full, the place was clean and the staff was super friendly. I can definitely recommend this to other Unilocalers on the hunt for a decent, quick breakfast around Ypsi.

This place has been here ever since I was a child. It’s gone through some identity changes but it’s still exactly as I remember it. This is the place to be in Ypsilanti any time before 12n. Service is quick so if the tables are all full you won’t wait too long to for a spot. People are in and out of there quickly. It seems like people of all walks of life meet at this diner. The coffee is good and someone stops by every time minutes to see if you«need a warm up». The menu is what is normally expected at a diner, and their sign out front boasts«best breakfast in town thanks w4 country». If you’re nearby it’s worth a drop in for a good cup of joe and a quick/cheap breakfast.

Went here with a friend and we both enjoyed our food and service very much. Originally I wanted to go to the Bomber but they close at 3pm. The Golden Egg is open til 4pm!(On Saturday) I had the gyro skillet and there was so much food for me I took half of it home. Everything was cooked nicely. It has homestyle potatos, feta cheese, tomato, bell pepper and gyro meat topped with egg prepared how you want them. I got scrambled. My friend got the apple cinnamon french toast combo per suggestion by the waitress and it was amazing! I had a bite myself and the flavor is so good! I will definitely be taking my mom here next time she visits!

Great choice. I’m pleased with the food and the service. Nice, quite diner. Could use some updating but I think that’s what makes the place feel like a local restaurants. I had the Gyro skillet which was very good. My husband has the grits, scrambled eggs and bacon. He was also pleased. The bacon was thick and really tasty.

Horrible food. Scramble eggs were not real eggs. The servers and cooks had a bad attitude. The meat seemed like it was premade sitting under a heat lamp. $ 3.75 for the fake scrambled eggs when one real egg costs $.075. I will never return to this restaurant. It is most assuredly the opposite of best breakfast in town

Traveling from out of town and saw this as a breakfast option and thought I’d give it a try. Friendly service, tasty food, good coffee and most important family friendly atmosphere. I look forward to the next time I’m in Ann Arbor for business as I’ll be back here.

In my opinion, the best American breakfast place in Ann Arbor/Ypsilanti area when you don’t want spend lots of moolah! The chef will totally welcome you from the open kitchen. Totally recommend you to get the Lumberjack omelette. All the others are great too. 5 stars totally earned.

Solid breakfast. Eggs and American fries were pretty good. Steak left much to be desired. I’m unlikely to return.

Sometimes we’ve to leave the confines of our adorable town for different pastures. Pastures with cheaper brunch options was the theme of the weekend. The graduate struggle was real and we found exactly what we were looking for and more. This didn’t come to pass without a bit of difficulty, however. Much like how many of us grow out of food intolerances to things like milk and nuts, we can also pick them up as well and thus gluten and lactose have all but been removed from my diet. Neighborhood diner/brunch places can be difficult places to dine. I began to despair as I looked at the menu full of pancakes, french toast, TOAST toast, and English Muffins. None of which I can partake. Lo’ and behold, however, my birthday twin kept close watch and began to read the menu handout on the table as opposed to usual formal book-style thing and said she’d look at those options. It was there that I found the skillets, which are various concoctions that combine potatoes and eggs and other delicious things that I CAN actually eat. I decided on the country skillet, which included: eggs(any style, I got scrambled)(duh), cheese, potatoes, sausage, bacon and onions which I substituted out for tomatoes. She had the greek skillet which included feta and spinach. Here you can be shamelessly frugal and still have a hearty breakfast. With a healthy helping of tea, all came out to $ 12 for me, tip included and I could not be happier to have found a brunch place which can align with my graduate school borne frugality. We were allowed to enjoy our food, with no rush, like those you’d experience at brunch places in Ann Arbor, which is always nice. You know?
