The poor salesman helping in shoes was very nice. However this is the second time quite recently, that I have been there where they are understaffed. This normally wouldn’t prompt me to write a negative review however the manager kept pulling the only sales person on the floor away from customers to do things like stock. This is frustrating while you see 10 other people waiting to be helped and the manager just stands by and will not help you himself. My impression on management both times has been very poor. We will now consider driving to Roseville instead of staying local.

This store is extremely cluttered and associates are never helpful or friendly. I tried to return an unused baseball bat. It had no markings and was perfectly shiny. Because the plastic was taken off, I was told that it cannot be returned because they can’t resell it. I asked why it could not be resold and was told that customers would not buy it. This is speculation and I explained that this is not disclosed in the return policy but was denied. We are limited in Yuba City to this as our only sporting goods store so we have due to no competition. I will make the drive to Sacramento to Sports Authority or Sports Chalet next time. I am sick of doing business with Big 5.

I’m going to update and knock off a star. While we had great help everytime we’ve gone there to buy stuff, and still like the prices and selection, the attitude you deal with during returns is just kinda rude and not very pleasant. We’ve purchased hundreds of dollars worth of stuff, and each time we’d clarify with the sales associate their return policy and that it will be ‘no hassle’, and they’ve always insisted that it would be quick and no hassle. However, out of those multiple hundred-dollar purchases, some of the items didn’t work out, from a chair frame breaking(not even at a joint, literally on the steel pole, was flimsy garbage), to a sleeping bag that was already pilling and dethreading on first use, we just didn’t think they were worth keeping. Well, they allowed us to return the items, and these were on two seperate trips with different sales associates, but their attitude changes reeeaaalll quick when you say you have a return. They were, at best, cold and callous, and at worst rude and snooty about it. And I’ve been there, I’ve worked retail, and I’m sure in a smaller store like this you have daily sales goals and all that, and returns might hurt that(my only guess for them being rude about it); but, I’m willing to spend quite a bit of money, I just like to make sure I’m getting good bang for my buck, and if they were instead being helpful and not rude about the matter, I could probably be talked into purchasing something else instead of walking out of there with cash in my hand. It should be pretty evident when we’re returning a $ 10 item on a $ 250 receipt that we’re not trying to run some sort of game or anything, but yeah, did not like the rude interactions and is tempting me to not come back and purchase gear from here. I’ve still got many many more things to buy, guns, fishing gear, camping gear, etc, but we’ll have to think about whether we’ll buy from here, or just use Amazon where at least I don’t get any flack for returning an item. Like I said, the sales associates when we were buying stuff were awesome, but those who helped us during the returns were very rude about the whole ordeal.

Yuba City Big 5 is the worst place ever! The 2 or 3 times I’ve been there the children working are goofing around and never help! I am fed up and will never go back! I’m so frustrated and annoyed with my experience. I don’t mind driving out of town to get better service and to go to a clean store.

Bought two pair of New Balance shoes for $ 91~ after tax and that was a good deal. The person at the shoe department and the cashier were very helpful. I would come here again for my shoes needs.

The store is kinda small, but they have it pretty well packed. It’s in a pretty nasty part of town too, but the employees are the greatest. They know the meaning of «Customer Service». Friendly, very helpful, and they all seem so very happy to be working there.

Lots of products of an average quality. It’s about as organized as your crazy hoarding aunts garage. Don’t let that stop you if your in a bind for a solar camping shower. If they are on sale, the store wide treasure hunt maybe worth the effort.

Smaller than some Big 5 stores, but usually has what you are looking for. If you are not familiar with big 5 they typically have a variety of off brand products at deeper discounts sometime than even wal-mart. Big 5 is best to hit on specific sales dates.
