Just ate there 3some –plus 4 tenders. catfish although was ½ the thickness of a fillet was cooked perfectly– wings perfectly cooked wonderful– rib tips not so good tough and dry they probably were good yesterday. wifes 4 tenders were small thin way over cooked and dry. sorry but the truth– and mild sauce is too hot for us.

Absolutely the greatest BBQ in Lake County! The rib tips are the best I’ve ever had, I highly recommend them. The portions are large and the prices are reasonable, the place is clean and the staff friendly.

Had the brisket sandwich. Tasted good. Kind staff. Probably the best BBQ around this area. Will definitely return. Note they had a few small dine in tables but I took mine home.

Love love love this place. The rib tips are nothing short of fantastic. Unlike other places where its mostly cartilage, at Herm’s it’s chuncks of pure meaty BBQ greatness! Their deep fried BBQ turkeys are a must as well! Keep it up, you’re our BBQ gem.

Herm’s Bar B-​Q is one of those hidden gems. You drive past it all the time but you never real get the time to stop by and check it out. I swung by for lunch because I wanted to change it up a little bit. First off everyone I encountered was super nice and helpful. Also, the menu was very simplistic so it’s really not that hard to make a decision in what you want. I ordered the small tip ribs, which come with fries and cole slaw. The ribs were fantastic, as well as the other sides. But what really got me was the sauce, it was too good! Even though I got it all over myself I still enjoyed my meal.
Honestly, if you love ribs and local gems, stop by Herm’s to satisfy your carnivorous needs.

Herm’s is the standard for BBQ in Lake County. Tangy BBQ sauce that sweet enough, simple yet complete seasoning on the meat, and a good menu variety makes this joint a very good value. They have a snack pack of tips for $ 5 if you want a quick sample. The shrimp are huge, meaty, and well seasoned. The Maxwell polish is a surprise menu item that does not disappoint. Friendly staff completes a good take out experience. We frequent this place when we want BBQ without the hassle at home. So glad we found this place. The brisket is worth fighting over.

I don’t have much to add to the reviews already listed. It’s a dive bbq joint with a basic, meager dining area. Outside, the restaurant offered little that was visually appealing. Once we started eating though… The food was PHENOMENAL. My grandpa had the brisket sandwich, and I had the rib tips. We were extremely satisfied, and will definitely be back. 5 for the friendly and accommodating service, 3 for dining facilities, 5 for value, and a 5 for taste. Since –let’s be honest– taste is all that matters, this place gets a solid 5 stars. Since they also do catering, I would definitely consider getting them to cater an event.

From the outside it’s a dive where the old captain porky’s used to be established before relocating to wadsworth. I did not have high expectations when I entered the place but as always looks can be deceiving. upon entering I was kindly greeted and looked asked what I would like to order. As I looked over there non expansive menu I decided to order the rib tips and the hot links. This place serves the normal bbq food and having a non expansive menu is great because it was a lot easier to decide. They offer two sauces mild and hot. I have gotten Both and while both are good the hot may be too hot for a lot of people. The foid is fresh and delicious. I will be returning as this is a great bbq establishment

Classic hole-​in-​the-​wall bbq joint. Ribs, chicken, brisket, shrimp, pretty much whatever you want. And herm’s signature hot bbq sauce is outstanding. Chicken takes 20 min so call ahead. Don’t plan on dinning in, not really set up for that. 50 cents extra to pay by credit card.

A little below average, I’m sorry to say. It looks like the kind of dive you want your BBQ to come from, but the rib tips were almost all fat and the sauce was way too sweet. I don’t think I’ve ever had bad pulled pork until today. It was pretty tasteless, and again the sauce was a disappointment. The fries were fine — a little mealy, but hot and cut thick. The service was inexplicably bad: they didn’t have half the stuff on the menu, oh, or forks. They had no forks. Or cups. If I were you, I’d skip it.

The food is good. I love there ribs I order a half slab they where Perfect cooked and the mild sauce went perfect. The serving portion was also a good size. I recommend it! The half BBQ chicken with mild sauce was not as good the chicken was a bit dry for my taste. I was there more for ribs but wasn’t really sure so I order chicken too. Should have just gotten RIBS !!
Also you must try the Caramel Cake! They don’t make it there. But I had tried it at one of my old jobs. There was a coworker that would drive to 87 & stony island in south Chicago to pick them up for our office. She always said that they where the only place that would make them. As I’m looking at there menu they get the cakes from same place ! Angelica’s Bakery.

Someone explain to me why I haven’t checked this place out before. I just had the Brisket sandwich and it was outstanding! Wife says the pulled pork is superb. I personally think that they make better BBQ than Cap’n Porky’s.
