If you remember back to that scene in Back To the Future where Marty McFly stumbles back through the 1950’s version of Hill Valley, that’s kind of the same experience you will have at Carter’s Ice Cream Parlor. We’ve been here several times and it provides a special treat for my 7 year old. She and I were there to day for lunch and treats. My cherry Coke was outstanding and and our ice cream cones were very good. My «blond girl» chose the mint chocolate chip and I tried the mango sherbert — both very great choices. I was a little disappointed with the burger, but my daugher seemed to like her grilled cheese just fine. In fitting with the vintage style, each booth and the counter has a jukebox for your listening pleasure. It just adds a little more to the overall atmosphere when you can hear an Elvis or Buddy Holly tune in your ears why you enjoy your treats. My only wish is that this establishment would be open longer in the evenings to compete with the other ice cream place down the street. It would just be nice to support something as special as Carter’s on a more consistent basis. And yes, the ice cream parlor is part of the Carter’s Toy Museum, which is well worth the look, too.(but that is for another review)

Hate for a first review to be bad, but it is what it is. I wanted to surprise my little one with this quaint ice cream parlor with the old school style set up and also show her the attached antique toy museum, but at 4:45pm the place was closed for the day. Their sign says they’re open till five, so unfortunately I must have stepped into a time warp in Zionsville. It didn’t surprise me, but severely disappointed me and crushed the little one. She did not understand why her«super surprise» was closed, but some quick thinking suggested to her that we were going to Chik-fil-A in Westfield/Carmel and all was right with the world. Shame on you Carter’s for not realizing that you would have customers on the hottest day of the year. Obviously, making money and retaining customers is not on the top of the agenda.
