Toast was a great bar, but it been overtaken by Copan nearby and new bars circa Camden St. I can say in the last 10 years Toast hasn’t changed. They do have very comfortable couches. but that’s about it! The food menu is poor and even the actual menus they hand to you are faded! The last few weekend nights I was there, they have given up on the DJ too. Things have gone so far that the early evening bouncer has gone. The owner is a nice lady who will talk to you if you’re there. She needs to look around at the empty bar though. Time for a complete Make over.

Like Being at Home Away from Home… Toast has become my favorite local go-to pub. I usually go to a pub during hours when they aren’t packed. Toast is perfect because the food is good, staff are great, the interior is cozy, and they have wifi. I particularly love the dark red walls and the high ceilings with carved, dark decorative wooden beams at either end of the room filled with tables and couches. I usually sit in the lower-ceiling area near the bar because I think the light is a bit better for reading(yes, I’m quite a nerd, even when going to a pub). I’ve put off a review of this place because I always feel that they are a 5 in rating, even though nothing in stands out to make it the«best.» I recently had that experience that will make me remember Toast and talk about them to others for a very long time. This week, I actually had my heart set on trying some pizza in Rathmines, but they said they were booked, and so I went to my dear Toast, where I know I’ll be happy. I was also trying to do a couple of loads of laundry and get in some study time, and so I had a lot to balance while still eating something that I know I’d like. I went with their bangers and mashed, which was served up quickly in an over-sized bowl. The presentation was especially nice this time, with an even round of mashed potatoes in the middle, and a stream of slightly-tangy, slightly-sweet onion gravy swimming around the outside. On top were two nicely browned, peppery bangers and a couple of slices of fresh grilled apple for garnish. Everything was steamy-hot, and the mashed featured crunchy shards of green onion(prettily cut on the bias) for a nice flavor and texture contrast. I started digging in, and it was just great. Then, I realized that I needed to run across the street to tend to the laundry. I hated to leave my food, but I also hate to take up a machine unnecessarily or make the attendant move my things if someone else needed the facility. So, I made sure I left my books and bags(except my wallet) so that the good people at Toast would know that I’d be back, and I dashed across the street. 8 or 10 minutes later, I was back at my table, but I knew the hostess was looking at me, and I thought perhaps I’d worried her about my return, after all. She spoke to me, and I started to internally cringe, awaiting a scolding. «Dear, would you like us to warm up that plate for you?» She asked. No, I didn’t, but I felt humbly appreciative of her genuine kindness and concern that my food had gotten cold. Actually, the food was still just a bit warm, and it was still very tasty. Toast, You are the best. Thank you for making me feel so very welcome every time I visit. You are truly a «5!»

Nice bar and pleasant staff… even if they are quite inefficient! Would recommend tho!

So we decided to get up and go out for a while one Saturday night. A treat for the couple of months of hard work in doing up the house, if you will. The Rathmines Inn had emptied after a party and the offer of live music sometime later on wasn’t enough so we went elsewhere for a bit of atmosphere. Toast was the next venue where we could sit back and have a drink so in we went. Since the first time I went in there, I’ve expected to be greeted by the smell of toast. Freshly popped toast. It’s never happened yet but one can always dream. Anyway, it was hardly hopping at 10pm on a Saturday but they were playing 80s music and well my love of cheese isn’t restricted to toasties so I quite enjoyed that. I had a bottle of Corona and she had a mojito. It’s fair to say the mojito was poor. It was like it was made from some a Mi Wadi-type concentrate and diluted to bejaysus(it’s a technical term in the bar trade). Still, once a different drink was chosen we had an enjoyable enough hour or two there. I don’t know if it ever gets particularly busy on a Saturday night — I would guess not — but you could find yourself in worse places.

Yeah, it wouldn’t be my place of choice to drink and/or eat if I was staying local. I do like the nice comfy sofas though and the prices are reasonable enough for a pint or a glass of wine. The service is also good and I like the fact that the smoking area is far enough away from the main part that I don’t have to smell the smoke. It was quiet though for a Friday night. Was it something I said?.

This is a spacious bar by night, which also serves pretty decent food by day. The low leather sofas by the tables at the front make this an excellent place for a date, or a chat with a few good friends over a drink. If you’re getting food however, the sofas are awkward because you have to eat in a strange ‘leaning over’ manner. The food is a pleasant range for bar food(not much use to vegetarians though). The portions are generous, the quality is generally good, but it is a bit overpriced. I think that they are understaffed– the staff at present are pleasant and try their best, but the service nonetheless is very, very slow because there just aren’t enough people working.(Last night, there seemed to be only one barman, and just two waitresses, and yet the place was bursting!) I personally would avoid Toast on a weekend night out because it’s a hotspot for drunken teenagers out on the pull(yuck) but that’s not the fault of the venue itself I suppose. But Saturday afternoon pints are always pleasant, and I think that this is one of the best café/bars in Rathmines.

Favourite place in Rathmines for a pint! Friendly staff, decent prices, open late, and very good, reasonably-priced food! Layout allows the place to be packed but the noise level remains quite low. Great for organizing quizzes and nights out, and always happy to give you great deals for groups! Lunch special is really great value and delicious!

Nicely spacious and pleasant even on a early Saturday night and kind, efficient staff taking us in from the rain, all of which makes it easy to return at another chance. We had a fine Bangers & Mash and a quite sloppy, over prized Steak Sandwich. Standard drink card, the € 5 mojito tastes premade and boring. There’s gotta be more and better stuff there :)

I’ve always had a wonderful time at Toast — promopt service, delicious food and great wine! As others have said, it looks like you’re popping into a tiny café — and wham! it’s long, it’s gorgeous and it delivers. The music is eclectic but in a good way, and just the right volume, too. Not somewhere I would go for a «night out» but great for grabbing a bite before heading on, or to just chill out after work.

First time in here last night. Popped in for a snack and a catch up with some peeps post cinema. We all drank the guinness, which was fine. I went for the chicken potato cakes that was on the specials board and these were very yummy. I recommend these. The décor is ok, if a bit worn out. But the sofas very inviting. I did find the tables at the sofas too low for eating though, but there are higher tables and chairs further back. Staff were nice and pleasant.

Great pub for watching matches in — large screens everywhere. It also has a ‘pour-yourself’ beer table. Does really good lunchtime food. Staff are very pleasant. Try the chilli-chips for a snak ! yom yom Turns into a club style bar at night but i haven’t checked this element out(yet)…

Stopped in here for lunch the other day and it was sort of a ‘mare. I ordered a coffee and a steak sandwich. Then I waited. And waited. Just over a half hour passed before my food reached me. Normally I wouldn’t have hung around, but a steak sandwich was just too good a prospect to abandon. I needn’t have bothered, since there was enough garlic butter on the ciabatta to make me vampire-proof for a long time. I know this seems a bit mean, but a lunch hour is a terrible thing to waste.

Toast is one of my neighbourhood cafés/bars. Don’t like the place as a drinking venue, but for Sunday brunch, it can be a very pleasant destination. The place is roomy enough to fit a group, the menu offers something for everyone and the TVs on the wall make sure you won’t miss a single second of sport action(which can be a good and bad thing, depending on how enthusiastic football fans the group is). But food is what Sundays are for. Comfort food to ease the pain and pump the body full of energy for the week ahead. I especially like the eggs Benedict with bacon and cream-cheese sauce, and the vegetarian brunch is delicious(especially if you add bacon to the order, harhar). Scrambled or poached eggs come with potatoes, spinach, onion and roasted tomatoes, toast and butter, guaranteed to keep you stuffed for the day.

I like Toast. It’s surprisingly big inside and goes on forever. The staff are really nice and quick to seat you somewhere that suits. The menu changes but has some good lunch staples like baked potatoes(with various toppings), bangers and mash and a great lasagne. Had one funny conversation there. My friend ordered the Thai Green curry, when it arrived there was no sign of much Thai influence though. So she asked the manager about it, how normally you’d expect coconut milk for it to be Thai, but he said«it’s just what it’s called and it’s green». Tasty though”

Very little to add to Jo’s quite comprehensive review, other to second all the nice things that she has said about the place. Very nice food at a very reasonable price(about € 11 for a pizza), and I couldn’t fault the waiting staff, the service was tres bien. I didn’t realise that Toast is open til late, but I can’t really visualise myself going there for a night out. It’s a little bit too chilled out — which is great if you’re eating lunch, but a little too sedate for nighttime. Two things that annoy me about the place. For one thing there’s a big massive TV screen, which is all well and good if there’s some match on, but I personally don’t dig on televisions in pubs. And they sometimes play wanky jazz music. Still and all, I nice spot to have lunch if you’re in the area.

Toast is another of those places you see from the outside and think is a tiny little café, but when you enter you discover a whole world you never knew existed! I popped into this ‘tiny’ café today, to discover that it is actually a huge café/late bar venue, which serves cocktails and is open until 2.30am on weekends. Who would have thought?!? Of course I opted for the 6.95 lunch special — for soup, a sandwich and a coffee, who wouldn’t, really? They also have a wide range of gourmet sandwiches, pizzas and mains such as Fisherman’s Pie, lasagne and burgers, so there’s something here to suit all tastes. The cockails are fairly steep at 10 euros a pop, but there are some cheapish house wines available, so might be the way to go when having a bevvie here. A special touch was that the owner/manager spent the good part of her afternoon mingling with the customers at the(very cool) sofas around the café. It wasn’t over the top and was much appreciated. The atmosphere was chilled, the service was fine and the place is well cool. I can’t wait to come back here for a night on the cocktails! Look like it could be loads of fun, and in my stomping ground too! What a discovery…

This is a great little bar for so many different occasions. After work it’s good to chill out with a friend and a pint and perhaps a plate of chili fries. Saturday night it can get thoroughly packed with dancing students who appear not to mind the useless sound system. Sunday afternoon it’s the perfect place for a lazy brunch. Great bar, good location, reasonable food. Winner.

As a bar, Toast is a lovely place for a Sunday afternoon pint or a catch up with your mates in the evening. It’s a big bar but it’s relatively narrowness keeps it from looking cavernous and impersonal. The staff are polite and friendly. The lights and candles make it look cosy and atmospheric. There is a late bar on Thur, Fri and Sat nights although sometimes it does close early on these evenings if business is slow. As a food place, Toast can be a bit hit and miss. It’s certainly popular for Sunday brunches or for a meal during the day. But the food is a little overpriced — certainly for somewhere in the middle of a large student population. It is possible to get soup for around 4 euro but most dishes are around 8 euro(for a toastie) to 15⁄16 euro for something more substantial. Reasonable by Dublin terms but this is bar grub not at it’s best. The Tuna Melt toastie for example comes with processed cheese slices in place of real cheese(although this may not still be happening). For me personally my order has been incorrectly taken a number of times. Lovely bar, lovely atmosphere — food, less impressive.

This is a great place to come after work and meet some friends or partner. It has quite a laidback and relaxing atmosphere and has big comfortable couches to sit on and some bar stools and tables also. There is candles all around the bar and tables and this creates a nice atmosphere. The food is a quite reasonable price and is served till quite late at night. There are snacks if you just want something light and main courses and deserts if want something more.
