Go here if you want butter chicken that looks radio active. The staff member who served me was wearing long rubber gloves probably to protect himself. But I love it here honestly it is what it is you can’t be too fussy this is almost always in a food court. All of that said it tastes mean and it’s cheap so I recommend it!

This Indian place in the Metro Centre food court is fine if you want a fast, easy curry. This is probably one of the better choices within the food court here, and one that I have dined at a few times. The dishes that they serve are pretty much the standard ones that you’ll find in any food court, and the portions and prices are generally the same too. This place also does a kids portion of curry and rice at almost half the price, and to be honest this portion is usually enough for me; certainly good enough if you aren’t ravishingly hungry. I must say that this Jewel of Bombay is ten times better than the Jewel of Bombay restaurant located further up the road on Queen Street.

Well well well… what do I say about Jewel of Bombay. I’m a huge fan of curry and so when someone let slip that jewel of Bombay sold a version of butter chicken for $ 5 I did not hesitate. Now by version I mean they sell rice and sauce — no chicken. I can really see the attraction here because I agree that the butter chicken sauce is the best part and the chicken is kind of there just to fill you up. I tried this. But I couldn’t finish it. Maybe it was knowing how un nutritious the meal was or perhaps thinking quality Indian food can just not be sold for only $ 5… I didn’t enjoy it. My friends did though and some of them swore by it for their whole first year of uni. I’m not sure if this deal still applies and I’m in no rush to find out, but if you’re a poor uni student it could be worth having a look to see if the bargain still lives on.

Jewel of Bombay is in the same food court as Pizza Planet. So take what I said about Pizza Planet(basically that it’s endearingly crap) and apply it to Indian cuisine and you have this! Everything is absolutely bog standard — just like you’d get out of a microwaveable Indian dinner. No surprises. Butter chicken sauce is always comforting without fail, so just get that, drizzle your rice in it. The chicken’s nothing to write home about. But it’s cheap as, and let’s be honest, you’re not coming to a food court for the ambiance are you? So as long as the expectations are nice and low, this place will do you just fine for a pre or post movie bite.

The best thing about this place is the fact that you can buy beer. The beer is six or seven bucks if you just buy it to supplement some sushi or pizza or anything bought from another food court place. But if you buy Indian food from Jewel of Bombay as well as beer, the beer only costs $ 4.90. Oh my god that is so friggen great. It is unbelievably great. The curries are pretty good. They taste nice and are cheap. The naan bread is good. The rice is good. It’s stock standard Indian food. Just go for the friggen beer. Be honest with yourself. That’s all you want. You’re definitely going to be depressed because you’re in a foodcourt, y’know. So you might as well get drunk.
