PGs is good for fresh fish — cooked to order. Generally either snapper or terakihi are available. While it is good you are paying for the quality — so if you want a cheaper option they have ready prepared battered or crumbed fish. PGs also do the usual shellfish — oyster scallops and mussels if you fancy that

There was nary a finer summer activity than eating fish ‘n chips beachside with heaps of tomato sauce (Watties, of course). And the great thing about PG’s is that it’s an easy 5−10min walk from Milford Beach — no soggy chips here!
PG’s is our local fish ‘n chippery. It’s not the best but it’s definitely not the worst either. They have a good selection of fish — we normally choose tarakihi — and the pieces are HUGE. The batter can sometimes be a little heavy but I normally pull half of it off anyway. 1 scoop of chips is enough for two — unless you’re extra hungry!

I can’t believe this place hasn’t received more reviews. I’m no fish-and-chip connoisseur, but to my mind, the fish is always perfectly done, crisp batter and soft flaky fillet, and the chips are large and firm and ‘hedonistic’, so to speak.
The servings are massive, far larger than at any other takeaway in the area. My parents and I order fish-and-chips for dinner a couple of times a month and drive down the road to eat at the beach. For a trio of waifs, 2 servings of fish and chips are plenty sufficient for the three of us.
The owners don’t speak much English but they’re always very polite and friendly. Occasionally it gets busy on say a Friday evening, and the seating arrangements aren’t great — they could provide a few more chairs/tables for busy times. But ultimately I’m there for the deep-fried deliciousness, and I can’t fault PG’s on that front.

A close walk or drive from Milford Beach, is the local Milford Village Fish and Chip Shop located not very far from the main street. Occasionally we will pop in before heading to the beach for a picnic dinner outdoors.
I order in via phone, and the fish and chips are done within 15 – 20 minutes usually.
The quality of the fish is quite good, very big portions of fish with medium to thick batter. The chips are delicious, with the right crunch and texture– perfect for the chip expert.
If you are visiting them around lunch or dinner, be ready for a little bit of a wait if you have not pre ordered your meal, however they have a few tables and chairs to sit at and read some gossip magazines if you need to.
Quite reasonable pricing, standard with fish and chip fare– they also make other battered goodies if you feel you need to indulge.
