The Tattooed Heart

I came here for my first tattoo yesterday and couldn’t be happier. I was a walk in and just got some line work. The receptionist was very nice and quoted me a price near what I though.
My artist was Liesje was great. She took plenty of time on the sketches to make sure they were perfect. The tattoo itself wasn’t too bad in the pain department, and she was very nice. I love it and would definitely recommend the artist and shop.

Unfortunately I did not have the best experience with The Tattooed Heart. I walked in wanting my very first tattoo. I didn’t have an image but I had an idea in mind of what I wanted and wanted to discuss it with a tattoo artist so that we may come up with the image together (though it may be MY first tattoo, I have many friends with tattoos and know this is completely common and acceptable to do).
I’m not sure if I spoke to a tattoo artist or just a person who worked the front desk but when I explained what I wanted to do she showed me a few pictures in a book. When I repeated that I was looking to discuss it and sketch out an original tattoo with an artist she told me it would be best to go home and look the picture up online and return the next day. I left very disappointed and let down. LUCKILY, there was another tattoo shop across the street called Otautahi Tattoo Auckland. I walked in there and explained what I wanted and immediately was personally sat down with Annie, a tattoo artist. We sketched out my tattoo for a whole hour until I got exactly what I wanted. Two hours later, I left with my first beautiful, original tattoo that I wanted and they had my money. Too bad Tattooed Heart. You could have had my business.
So happy I went with Otautahi. Highly recommend them.

I’ve had two tattoos done here by Leisha (that’s not actually how you spell her name but I don’t know how), and she’s great. She drew up my pieces in good time and I felt really comfortable discussing my ideas with her. The studio is immaculate and at the time my friend worked the front desk, so the service was good too. Everyone is friendly and they’ve got heaps of merchandise in store too. ut if you’re looking for talented tattooists, I’d highly recommend The Tattooed Heart. They know what they are doing and you feel safe that everything is clean and sterile. They give you good after-​care advice and you can come back for touch up on the colour too. They are a bit more pricey than other tattoo parlours, but for a reason.

After extensive research around the K’Rd tattoo studios, unbeknown to me, my partner decided the he wanted Tom from The Tattooed Heart to permanently emblazon his arm with a huge Phoenix, after our son, also called Phoenix.
Although I think they should have made him get a note from home giving him permission (haha) I have to agree that he has ended up with a stunning piece of art on his arm.
The studio is immaculately clean, the artist listened and paid attention, great after-​care advise and follow up.
Oh… and it hurt. The colors really are amazing and you will find some of the top tattooists in the country operating out of this studio.
They are $ 15 per hour more expensive than the going rate around the city, but you get what you pay for.
