It’s a really cozy nice little place with great food. The menu is very much limited down to two types of baked potatoes, soup and some cakes. But what little it does, it does it really well. Do note that if you came there in hope of baked potatoes similar to those in Ireland you will be disappointed. What Kumpir house does is is to put spiced mashed potatoes in a baked potatoe shell, top it off with tsatziki sauce and some tomatoes or veggies. It makes for a very pleasant food experience! The food can be accompanied by some decent craft beers or nice cup of tea. The overall experience is topped by very pleasant service. Definitely a place to stop by while walking down Krakowskie Przedmiescie!

Hip little café with wooden interior and small seating area. My friend and I cluelessly ordered scrambled eggs and ham for breakfast because of language barrier issues with the waiters. Very average and relatively expensive meal. However, the café has a small collection of loose leaf teas that are quite delicious. I had the strawberry and cream tea(with real bits of strawberry inside!)

Kumpir House is located directly on Krakowskiego Przedmieścia near Plac Zamkowy. The area is already full of cafes, neighbors being Café Baguette, Costa Coffe, and Café Trakt, so the fact that this café/bistro sells something other than coffee is a welcome addition to the area. The owner, a Turkish gentleman, said that the idea was to create something less touristic and commercial in the area, something with a homey vibe(thus the«House» in the name). The place certainly is comfortable and homey. Essentially, the café’s specialty is something called ‘kumpir’, which is a Turkish style baked potato. When you order this, they pull out a shelf of potatos that I swear are probably the size of my head.(I asked him for a small one and he pulled out one that made Mr. Potato Head look positively anorexic.) I’ve never seen such gigantic potatos… even in the States where all of the vegetables look like Hulktables on Monsanto steroids. After putting garlic butter and cheese into the potato and mashing it to make a purée, they will add any number of additional things: jalapenos, tomatos, peas, beans, corn, pickles, tzatziki, tuna salad, a sauce made with leak, and a meat chili topping. I had standard toppings adding tzatziki and tomatos to the butter and cheese mix. This is really the ultimate comfort food, besides maybe maccaronni and cheese, toasted cheese or something else with melted cheese. A big roasted potato full of garlic and cheese and a creamy sauce. It is filling, familiar, and warms you up from the inside, but this was also tasty in a way that was unexpected and new. As far as prices are concerned, one giant potato is going to cost you slightly less than a full meal someplace else — around 18 zlty. A bit steap, but as I said, you can get a potato the size and weight of a bowling ball and pile it with meat and cheese, so I think it’s fair. Besides potatos, the rest of the offer is typical café fare — cakes and coffee. The one novel addition was tiny squares of baklava(my favorite desert). The coffee is really good and comes in «mega» sizes. The interior is spacious and has seating covered in a crushed black pseudo-velvety material. There are silver lamps hanging from the ceiling, and outside there are a lot of pillows and blankets on the chairs and couches. It is all very comfortable. The use of a lot of wood in the counter and the construction of the benches makes the place have a softer appearance. The owner of the restaurant is very nice and seems to be a bit of a polyglot. He spoke fluent Polish and English to me and I read here in another review that he also speaks Spanish apparently. The rest of the staff was wonderfully helpful and smiling.

We stopped by one night to get dessert and to people-watch from their outdoor seating area. Nice ambiance, with candles and cushions on the chairs. But we came back a different night specifically for their stuffed baked potatoes, which are their specialty. There are a dozen toppings to choose from, which get mixed in with the inside of the potato and then scooped back into the skin. I was on board with the jalapenos, coleslaw, cheese, and pickles, but I was hesitant about the vast quantity of butter they recommended. Get it: it makes the potato what it is. The owner is very nice — and speaks English and Spanish fluently.

Super friendly personnel. Felt like home, chatty without being intrusive, a light atmosphere. Great unpretentious food… baked potatoes done right. Give it a try, I loved it.
