Airport Express

I wish we had this in US! I took the Airport Express to and from Kowloon. MTR stations are easy to find to purchase tickets and Octopus cards. On my way back to Hong Kong Airport, I was able to return my Octopus card and get a refund for the remaining balance, which paid for my Airport Express ticket. I was able to use that Airport Express ticket to access the United ticket counter at Kowloon station to print out my boarding pass and check in my bag. And yes, my bag did make its way from Kowloon to Hong Kong Airport to SFO. Whew… If i had more time to kill, I could have just checked in my bag and hung out in Kowloon or HK, but I decided not to risk getting stuck in customs and security.

The metro express to to the city offers fast and convenient service. Ticket cost $ 90 HKD or about $ 11.60 USD each way from the airport to Kowloon. The ride to Kowloon station is less than 30 minutes, and free hotel shuttle service is available from the station to various hotels in the area.
When traveling from the city to the airport, the metro express stations offer convenient airline check-​in service. You can sort out your boarding pass and check your luggage before you even get on the train. This allows you to avoid the hassle of checking in at the airport.

The best way ever to get home from the airport to home, in less than 30 minutes! Almost every time when I arrived Hong Kong, I walked out to the train station and the train would be there waiting for people. The train departs every 6 minutes so don’t sweat if you just miss one while you’re pushing your heavy cart of suitcases.
The best part is that the train station platform is right in front of you after you leave the restricted area, either A or B. Just keep walking straight and you’ll find the ticketing counter and the automated ticketing machines behind the counter on the wall. You can buy a round trip ticket and save $ 10 but your returning trip ticket will expire in a month.
There will be staff to help you load luggage onto the train as well and they will be happy to clear the cart for you too!
The train seats are very comfy and there is clear indication as to how far are you from your next station, either Tsing Yi, Kowloon, or Hong Kong. There are not many stations so the train is almost a super express train, but at the same time all the stations are connected to different parts of Hong Kong via regular subway (MTR), buses or taxis.
Comfy, efficient and affordable. My choice to take me home from the airport!

When this first opened, I thought nobody would take it. It’s $ 100 HKD, which is about $ 13 USD — not expensive, but the buses are cheaper (about $ 39 HKD).
Last Sunday, not only did many people take the Airport Express, but it was standing room only! The In-​Town Check-​In system allows anyone to check in from Central (and other locations) as long as they use their Octopus Card to take the Airport Express afterwards. This convenience has enticed even this penny-​pincher to take the Airport Express. Getting to the Airport from Central in 24 minutes is certainly a plus.
Saving time is worth a lot of money in Hong Kong. I am glad that I was able to put all four of my check in luggage items within 24 hours of my flight, hang out in Central with a bunch of buddies before heading to the airport for my evening flight.
New York City has much to learn from Hong Kong. *Sigh*, at this rate, we’ll probably never catch up.

Getting to/​from an airport should be quick, convenient, and inexpensive. The Airport Express fits the bill. Taking just 24 minutes with stops in Tsing Yi, Kowloon, and finally Hong Kong, the train costs just $ 100 HKD (compared to £21.50 GBP to ride the Heathrow Express). The Hong Kong station connects to the Central station so you have access to all the subway stops on the island. It really is that easy.
On the way back to the airport, you can check in and drop off your bags at the Hong Kong station before getting onto the airport express. Again, super easy.
The ride itself is pretty uneventful, the upholstery in the train cars is a little worn, and the TVs in the cars don’t seem to work, but it’s still a first class system.

This by far the most convenient way to get into the city from the airport. At $ 100 HK from the airport to the Island, the ride is comfortable and smooth. The only draw back is it is not 24 hours and if you get in on the early morning flight before 5:30 am, you will have to wait for it to open.

I now have the routine down pat, and I have to say: getting to HKG airport isn’t at all bad!
It starts with a quick taxi ride from my flat in Happy Valley to the Hong Kong MTR station ($ 38-​$ 50 HKD depending on traffic). Because you’re dropped off right in front, it’s a quick walk to the airline check-​in counters where you can drop your luggage and obtain your boarding pass before catching an Airport Express train to the airport. How cool is that — no more dealing with cumbersome suitcases starting at the Airport Express origin point! And the boarding pass means you go straight to security once you arrive at the terminal.
The ride itself (a smooth 24 minutes) is thoroughly enjoyable as there’s some nice scenery and there are also outlets for charging your mobile device. I usually purchase a roundtrip ticket online for $ 180 HKD, though I wish they’d allow you to print a ticket with barcode at home. My only criticism of the Airport Express is standing in the line to collect your ticket once you arrive at the Hong Kong MTR station. It usually moves pretty quickly, but really wish they’d eliminate that step. You can purchase your ticket directly from a kiosk (there’s rarely a line there), but you can’t use your credit card at those machines.
Overall, I feel very lucky to have such an efficient and cost-​effective way to access the airport. I truly believe that the travel experience begins with your transport to the airport, and I like mine to be as stress-​free as possible.

The Airport Express serves the airport, Tsing Yi, Kowloon and Hong Kong. This is the fastest way to get from the Airport and vice versa.
In Town check in offers a tremendous advantage to lugging your luggage around and often bypass the long queues at the Airport. You can check in anytime at your convenience and your luggage will be transferred to your flight. It cost HK$ 100/​-​per person to Hong Kong and less for Kowloon. Should you wish to return the same day it is free.

Without question, the absolute BEST way to get from Hong Kong International Airport into Hong Kong (or HK to HKIA) is the MTR’s Airport Express!
It’s climate controlled, very clean, reasonably quiet, comfortable, plus it takes just 24 minutes go from the airport to Hong Kong (or HK to the AP)! Once it departs, there are only 3 stops, Tsing Yi, Kowloon, then Hong Kong and there’s a nifty «progress light» so you know at a glance how far along you are.
Cost? Pretty reasonable! You can buy one way ticket for HK$ 100 (US$ 12.90) or round trip for HK$ 180 (US$ 23.20 — 30 days to use). If you’re staying in Hong Kong a few days or longer, it might be better to get an Octopus Card.

This is an electronic stored value smart card. You just «wave» it over the reader and the fare is automatically deducted for the MTR, Airport Express, Light Rail, Buses and Ferries, plus some vending machines and more, it’s very easy!
OVERALL: The Airport Express is the fastest and easiest way to go to and from HKIA! I just wish Los Angeles had something like this at LAX!

We discovered the Airport Express during our recent trip to HK, and it’s one of the best findings ever. haha :) So convenient, fast, and efficient if you want to get to your hotel in either Central or Kowloon.
For 1 passenger on the Airport Express, it’s HKD $ 90 from Airport to Kowloon.
However, if you buy the 2 person pack, it’s HKD $ 140 for 2 one-​way tickets. What a sweet deal we got! :)
We took the Airport Express subway/​tram from the Airport to Kowloon, and it was only a 20 – 22 minute ride. It drops us off at the Kownloon MTR Station, at which point you can take one of the complimentary airport-​hotel shuttles to your hotel in Kowloon.
Prices are reasonable, and service was great. The complimentary shuttle drops you off right in front of your hotel, score!

It’s an excellent way to travel to and from the Hong Kong airport. I always buy the HK$ 160 round trip ticket to the Kowloon Station. For us vacationers, from the Kowloon Station you can ride a free shuttle that runs different routes stopping at multiple hotel locations. If you’re not familiar with which one to take, just tell someone at the desk your desired destination and they’ll tell you which ine. The buses run about one every 12 minute.
One knock, though, is that the workers at the bus stop area can have a bit if unfriendly attitude. Maybe they’re not necessary happy with their type of job or something (or they’re still carrying the attitude typical of there in the mid-90’s which I’ve observed during visits at that time). On top of that make sure you’re seated in a chair designated for the bus you’re supposed to take while in the waiting area. I was scolded (albeit mildly) for not doing so even though I’m essentially just a few seats over. Guess it Hong Kong’s way of keeping thing in order.

Amazing transportation. I’m confused as to why we here in the city don’t have transportation like this from the airport. No, the Airtrain doesn’t count. Not as unbelievably convenient & effective.

This falls under ‘the best thing ever’. Even if you can afford it, I will respect you a little less if you insist on turning your nose down on public transportation for a taxi.
I like efficiency and this train makes it SUPER easy to spend time in the city during a layover whether it’s 5 hours or 10. You can also check in early and explore without bags. Free carts at both ends. It’s reliable and I’ve never had any issues with the train! If you’re meeting someone you can have them meet you in the adjoining mall or buildings and not physically step foot outside. Which I’ve done before.

5 stars for transportation?
If you have ever taken the Airport Express either to or from the airport, then you’ll know what I mean. I wish that they had this in every city.
We arrived in Hong Kong in the late evening, and just wanted to head to the hotel to rest after the long flight from Seattle (over 14 hours non-​stop: painful). We got our luggage, took out some cash, and headed out of the baggage claim area and bought tickets (don’t bother buying your ticket at the counter next to baggage claim: too crowded). About 25 minutes later, we were at the Hong Kong Island station. Cheap and efficient (getting a taxi from the HK Island station was another matter, though).
If getting to Hong Kong Island was good, going back is even better. You can check your luggage in up to 24 hours before departure at the HK Island station, and you can then spend the rest of your time shopping or eating before you head to the airport. So convenient. Better yet: not crowded like the MTR.

The Airport Express has proven to be a success among locals and foreign travellers. It’s fast and reasonably cost! Furthermore it has free wifi on board and gets you to the heart of Hong Kong quickly. That’s how transport should be like. To me, HK has shown the other cities how First Class Public Transport should be like, they have shown again and again how things should be done.
Very impressed with the efficiency with the staff. For first time visitors, not sure how to get to Hong Kong Island? Take this to Hong Kong Station then change for the MTR train at station at Central (15 minutes walk).
Forget about taxi, save your $$$ instead and do some walking exercise along the way, not a bad deal right?
Overall, it’s a great experience for all. Reliability and quality service is how I rate this express train system.

Maybe I’m utterly biased but the public transportation here in Hong Kong is so good you would never need a car.
Used to be a fan of the bus routes from downtown to the airport. It usually took an hour. A pretty decent ride, given the scenery (the Tsing Ma Bridge, for instance), and usually with emptied seats and quite, sleeping passengers.
But Airport Express is a different beast. 24 minutes, you go from the airport to Hong Kong station, which is essentially the heart of Central. Twenty-​four minutes. Combined with one of the most efficient airports in the world, it was a true demonstration of the «Hong Kong efficiency».
The downtown check-​in is genius too, and since you can check-​in within 24 hours before departure, there were occasions where I checked during lunch time (when I worked at IFC), or had my colleague checking in the night before, pulling a all-​nighter at LKF, and taking the Airport Express in the morning directly to the airport.
The trains arrive to the station every 10mins, but since they stay at the platform for 3 — 4mins, so you don’t really feel like waiting for a long time on the platform, if you ever miss the last train.
One thing that definitely deducted a star was the depreciation of the seats. While the airport is just as new, you can easily see the seats on Airport Express worn out a lot. Time for some polishing.

For HKD$ 100 you can get a same day return ticket from the Airport to the City.
The best deal if you are doing a long layover and don’t want to stuck in the Airport the whole day. (Though HKIA is a nice place to chill!)
The ride is fast and uneventful. When you get to HK or Kowloon Station there are plenty of taxi waiting for you or you can take the MTR to wherever you want to go or a Free Shuttle Bus to various hotels in town .
The only bad thing is if you have the last/​late flight arriving HK, you better run to catch the last express train 12:48 AM after that you would have to take a cab (HKD$ 300+) to get in town.
For returning, you can also pre check in at HK Central Station depends on what airline you are flying. Make sure you check with your carrier!

When you are departing Hong Kong, Airport Express and the fast 24 minute express train to the airport is the way to go!!!
Make sure you check in at least 90 minutes before your plan departs or you can even check in even the day before. The secret sauce is you can checkin your bags at the terminal so you ride the train without any of your check in luggage…

All my contacts in HK kept telling me to use airport express and boy its a eye opener game changer!
One caveat is when you arrive in Hong Kong, if you have a lot of luggage, will be tough to take the airport express train if your traveling alone… If you are traveling with a companion you should be good to go since you can help each other with your luggage.
The kicker is the fee is only 100HK$$($ 13 USD) to Hong Kong Station or 90HK$($ 11,50 USD) to Kowloon Station one way…

Also if you have ample time there are free shuttle buses from various hotel locations to the Airport Express terminal as well.
When traveling to HK have to try this out!!!

The quickest and relatively inexpensive way to get between town and the airport. So even on a layover you can duck into town for some dim sum at Tim Ho Wan, or some retail therapy at IFC mall and then head back to get your connecting flight.
There are also free shuttle buses that go to various hotels, but you can use them to get anywhere if you know which hotel is closest to your destination.
Although if you’re going to the New Territories, you might be better off taking the bus instead.

Für maximal 10, – € vom Flughafen in die Stadt und das im 5-​Minuten-​Takt — perfekt. Kommt man aus dem Empfangsbereich des Airports läuft man förmlich direkt in den Airport Express und ja — den nimmt man, um in die Stadt zu kommen. Ultraleicht, ultrabequem und hochfrequent. Nur zu empfehlen.

Getting to and from Hong Kong island has never been easier. At the airport, you have various opportunities to buy tickets: right before you leave baggage claim, after you leave baggage claim, and at ticket machines near the trains. At the time of this review, it costs about $ 180 HK roundtrip from the airport to Hong Kong Central. Hop on the train, and 24 minutes and 3 stops later you’re in town!*
There is supposedly free wifi on the platform and I believe on the train as well, but I’ve never been able to access it. I’m not sure if you have to have a HK sim card/​service provider, or if I’m just an idiot who doesn’t know how to find free wifi.
During transit, I think the train goes underwater at some point, because my sensitive ears can feel the pressure and they occasionally pop. Usually this happens when we’re approaching Tsing Yi station, and in between Tsing Yi and Kowloon.
I thought there were some decent views to be had when you leave Tsing Yi station going to Kowloon, so have your camera out if you’re interested! If you’re going towards HK Island and facing forward, I think the views are better on the left side of the train.
Going back to the airport is seamless as well; and with the ability to check in your luggage in town, it makes the return trip a ton easier.**
