Hong Kong review #17 We rode the cable car over to Lantau Island and of course were late for lunch again. We needed to eat and I saw this food court upstairs in this mall, problem solved! This food court has a number of little restaurants to choose from and after walking around and looking at all of them, went back to this one to place our order. SERVICE: You step up to the counter, order, pay and you meal is ready very quickly. No niceties or pleasantries however, just get in and get out, zip, boom, bang. This guy was cranking out one meal about every 3 minutes! FOOD: We ordered the«Beef Noodle»(HK$ 52 — $ 6.75US) and the Pork Cutlet Noodle(HK$ 55 — $ 7.15US). Both came with soup and a few fried /crispy won tons. The noodles of this beef dish were over cooked(before going in the wok), but the flavor imparted in the wok was very good. Also with this dish, that Wendy’s Hamburger commercial from the mid 80’s came to mind, you remember, the one with the old lady yelling«Where’s the beef?» I only found 3 or 4 pieces of beef mixed in all those noodles and I honestly expected more. The Pork Cutlet was nicely cooked and had a good flavor. The noodles on this dish were not overcooked like the other one, good flavor too, but also different from the beef noodle. OVERALL: An impromptu meal in a shopping mall food court. A-OK.

Hunger is the best seasoning. This is how I found my one and only experience at Food Republic(Tung Chung). I just returned from the beach and I was starving. I just want to hug my bed when I get home… So I found my omurice pretty tasty. On any other day, I probably won’t eat here. With the limited choices around the area, this place is packed despite the mediocre food and a premium price. Not to mention this is an outlet mall right next to the airport. Translation: tons of tourists who are just looking to fill their stomachs fast so they can continue their shopping spree. So don’t come with any expectation and you won’t be disappointed. Don’t make it a destination for a foodie experience, This place has only one purpose — to feed hungry people who are stranded in Tung Chung with few other options. LOL

Most of the food stales here are very mediocre. Been here many times and still have yet to find a decent one in which I can come back on a constant basis. When getting utensils such as spoons or chopsticks, they are most of the time wet. This is very gross needless to say disgusting as you don’t know where the water is from.

The food here is mediocre. I guess this is what you can expect from a «food court» inside a mall. The Food Republic in TST/Kowloon is much better with selection, quality, and clealiness. You have to scout for a table around here and most likely have to share the table with another party. Ohh well!!! Anyway, they mostly only take CASH here so make sure you have some handy. I can’t recall the name of the stall that we ordered from. But I can tell you about the food. 1. Chicken Teriyaki — Tasteless 2. Vegetables on the side — old tasting 3. Ramen — I’ve had much better Maybe it just was the place we ordered from… I’d have to be brave to try another stall here again… What. A. Dissapointment.

There are limited eating options around Tung Chung station/citygate outlets if you’re not a fan of the chains like Subway, Starbucks, and the Spaghetti House. The food court features some popular food chains like Pepper Steak and Pho24 but the variety is what keeps you satisfied. You can get, as mentioned, pepper steak and phở, Siu mei, Thai food, express teppanyaki, Korean noodles, and more. I always go to the Thai place for their pad krapow, and if you’re going to get char Siu or Siu yok, head to one of the bigger sit down restaurants on the fringes — not only do they have better meat but they accept credit card. The booths in the main food court area only take cash. You can get takeaway for all these places. Only issue is the drinks– pretty sure I’ve mentioned this before somewhere, but you have to buy on a separate stall and they rarely ever get my drink orders right…
