金富飲食中心 is located on the ground floor of the Chevalier Garden Commercial Complex in Ma On Shan. There isn’t an English translation for this restaurant. Unilocal did initially name the restaurant Gold Full, but removed it when I submitted an update. Perhaps that is for the best because Google Translate is calling it Gold Rich Diet Center. Ha ha. This restaurant is one of a few in the commercial complex. It offers up HK-café fare, but also serves Cantonese dishes. The dining room is very casual and feels like a neighborhood hangout. It may look like a dive to a non-HK diner, but it really is all about function here. A TV is propped up on one of the walls to keep diners informed of things happening like the current HK protests. Seating is informal as you seat yourself. Pick out where you want to sit. If the restaurant is busy, you will probably have to share a table with someone. Had dinner here with my aunt and we had three dishes along with a bowl of Chinese soup. Simple fare including a bowl of gai lan(Chinese broccoli), scrambled eggs with shrimp and steamed pomfret with black bean sauce. If you order a fish, expect a wait as they need to steam it. The gai lan was good. I am actually quite impressed with vegetable dishes I had in HK since they were all fresh and juicy. Scrambled eggs and shrimp was a crowd pleaser. It is something I didn’t expect to find at a restaurant since it is a home cook type dish, but I enjoyed it nevertheless. Shrimp were plump. As for the pomfret, usually I don’t enjoy eating fish. I mostly just eat mainstream varieties like cod and salmon. But I had to make an exception since I was visiting. Need to try new things when on vacation! And the pomfret was delicious. It had a lot of bones, but the fishmeat is nice with the black bean sauce. This Chinese restaurant is not at all glamorous. It is an no-frills place that serves consistent fare that reminds me of home cooking at reasonable prices. If you are looking for local food, this spot fits the bill.
