My girlfriend had a craving for some fish and chips so we decided to give Limehouse a try. Having lived in England, I thought they did an excellent job at satisfying our cravings. Fish and chips was well executed and the shepherd’s pie was perfectly crisp on top. A tad pricier than expected, but that kept the atmosphere nice and quiet without a million people packed inside. I will return next time I’m in HK.

Have heard a lot of good things about this place, thus wanted to try it out. It’s located at the dead end of Ship Street where it’s very quiet. The ambiance is very cosy and relaxing. The décor is quite rustic but comfortable. They don’t have a full bar, offer beer and a limited selection of champagne, red and white wines. That’s fine because the corkage is only HK$ 100 per bottle so quite inexpensive. The staff is attentive, knowledgeable, but not overly friendly. The menu is small but looks inviting. We went for 3 appetizers including spinach with crabmeat, scallops and prawns, Petite Fish & Chips. The spinach was fresh, same as for the crabmeat. The dressing was a little bland, but this appetizer was still the best from what we ordered. The batter of the Fish was crispy but too thick and not very tasty. The tartar sauce was more on the sweet side which is totally new to me. The best part of this dish were the chips, done really well. Prawns and Scallops were cooked nicely, there was a little bit of salad with a bland dressing. Our two mains were the pork chop and the beef cheek and veal liver in filo pastry. The portions are very generous, the pork chop was huge, it would have been difficult to finish it alone. It was cooked okay, meet was juicy. But again, really not special. The fried iberico ham was very salty. Most disappointing was the beef cheek and veal liver. It was cooked all right but the taste was quite sweet, not savory at all. Apparently they use a lot of A1 sauce to cook. We didn’t bother for dessert. We will surely not come back!

I am not British so I’m not very knowledgeable of all the British dishes out there. I came to Limehouse after reading some reviews on open rice. supposedly, this restaurant has fish and chips which I was craving for. But unfortunately, when we got there, fish and chips was not on the menu that day. We ended up with a very yummy lunch nevertheless. for appetiser, I had the pumpkin soup and for entrée, I ordered the chickenburger. Omg the chicken burger was out of this world delicious! The patty was tasty, tender, and juicy. The patty wasn’t a whole piece of chicken but rather more like minced chicken. Just so so so good that you have to try it! I just wish the size of the burger was bigger so I could had more of it!

Limehouse is probably the«oldest» new restaurant on Ship Street. With the boom of the whole dining and drinking scene on Ship Street in the last few years, I’m not surprised that Limehouse is still standing even when it’s hidden in the back end of the street. Decorated like a little cottage, the restaurant has two floors with a wooden staircase. Imagine if it had a little fireplace with wood burning in the winter, it would be as if we were having a cosy meal at home. I came here for the first time in 2011 and recently had the opportunity to revisit this lovely little restaurant. I vaguely remember I ordered bangers and mash last time I came here and I liked it. Sadly, this time I went again, this item was no longer on the menu. We had a big group of 10 people and ordered many dishes for sharing. A few of the dishes that are worth mentioning are the tuna and avocado tartare, fish and chips, duck liver and egg and porkchop with stilton and apples. As for dessert, we all really enjoyed the sticky toffee pudding and the apple crumble. The only thing that I did not really like was the shepherd’s pie as I thought it was a bit too watery inside. I cannot think of another British restaurant in Hong Kong that I could recommend for classic British dishes at the top of my head. Limehouse certainly has its room for improvement on some of its dishes, but I would still recommend if you feel like having some authentic British fare.
