MTR Admiralty Station

Typical MTR station with tons of exits — a good mixture of staircases, escalators, and elevators. This is an especially busy and hectic station usually around rush hour. There are plenty of staff and crew members on hand nearby to help out. A small selection of stores inside the MTR station though.

This is like a full service station, especially if you’re a tourist. It leads you to some of the most desirable parts of Hong Kong and I really appreciated the Tourist Services located inside the station near the B exit. They offer 10% discounted priced tickets to Ocean Park and Hong Kong Disneyland. Compared to park prices to places like Disney World, the regular price is a not bad but I’m all about getting a discount!

Ladies and gents — it’s a preempted review.
You’d think I’m being an arse rating Admiralty Station a three star. I fully appreciate the MTR system in Hong Kong, and I’m not one of those whiners complaining that «oh the train is 2mins late!» I know for a fact that MTR is probably the second best train system in the world, maybe after Tokyo’s.
But let me lay this out. Have you seen the queues in the station? It got worsen after the construction started and the government HQ moved to the new location now at Tamar. Friday at 6pm? That’s even worse. Black rain or Typhoon signal 8? I have friends that intentionally stay at office LONGER because they know the queues at Admiralty will be insane. So go figure. Used to be able to go on to the immediate train or immediate next train, but now waiting for 2+ is the norm.
So what could go worse? Heard about the South Island Line that goes to Aberdeen and Ocean Park? And you heard about the Shatin — Central Line? Where do you think the conjunction would be? Yes you are right. Admiralty station. Arguably they have running out of underground space in Central and Wan Chai, so Admiralty is their only choice. But I have heard from insider source that the station won’t be (/can’t be) expanded massively, so the crowd and the queue would only go further south.
I miss the simple days when we only have blue and red and green lines. Now it is like playing the game «Mini Metro» (
) (funny enough, they have HK as one of the playable maps!).

This is the main station you use if you are staying at the JW Marriott.
The MTR system is amazing.

Clean and easy to traverse station. Easy access through Pacific Place, and to the JW Marriott.
