Palace IFC

Located in the high end IFC mall this cinema has in total 5 houses, medium and small size. It is one of the most expensive cinemas in Hong Kong. Still the location is prime right in the heart of central. On busy days prepare for some waiting time to buy tickets as they only have a few ticket booths. It is more convenient is to buy tickets online.
Apart from the convenience store they also have a bar offering all kinds of beers, wines and liquors. The drinks you are allowed to take into the cinema which can make your movie experience even a better one.

Certainly not the most technologically advanced theater experience one can have, but it does the trick if you have a hankering to watch a movie on the big screen.
Though, I should get more specific: the ‘big’ screens at Palace IFC really aren’t all that big compared to most modern-​day theaters.
Definitely book your tickets online or else you’ll have the same experience my friend and I had: we arrived 30 mins before showtime, but the screening was sold-​out and we had to wait almost 3 hours for the next showing. I would have booked online except that in my case, I had vouchers for free tickets that had to be redeemed in-​person at the box office.
Palace IFC has a bar which is always a nice perk. And I didn’t tell you this, but ostensibly one *could* purchase popcorn at the nearby Garrett gourmet popcorn store and perhaps smuggle it in. A bold move, but have you had caramel popcorn from Garrett’s? It’s better than most things in this world.

It’s comfortable and yes there’s a bar, but the screens are so small I feel like I’m missing out on the true theater experience. I don’t need everything to be IMAX-​sized, but given the price premium here, I feel like I’m not really getting the most immersive movie experience.

IFC cinema doesn’t look anything like a movie theatre from the outside and you’d be forgiven for missing it if you didn’t know where it was.
You can purchase tickets upstairs up to three days in advance for regular screenings. However there are a number of screenings of National Theatre productions that can be booked several months in advance. You can also book tickets online which is generally what I do but a credit card fee may be incurred. Tickets are picked up from slick screens mounted on the walls.
For such a huge mall the cinema itself is quite small with only five houses with only one of them qualifying as ‘large’in my books. However, the seats are plush and it’s a nice experience catching a film in a relatively intimate setting. It also means there are less mid-​movie annoyances such as people getting out of their seats to use the washroom, mobile phones going off etc.
There is a bar (yup… apparently people drink booze in the cinema now) as well as a kiosk serving the usual (outrageously overpriced) popcorn, hot dogs, nacho combos as well as soft drinks and a range of bottled teas.
Being a small cinema the limited seats are snapped up quickly so last minute movie dates may not be an option — you’ve got to get organised!
New films come out on Thursdays and Tuesdays are discount nights.

What makes a better activity than watching a movie? You can arrange a movie night with friends, do a movie date night with your crush and you can always enjoy watching a movie by yourself. I love watching movie, anytime and anywhere. I prefer watching movie in the cinema as the sound system is way better and features a massive screen. PALACE Ifc is one of cinemas that I frequently go.
Since I am living in Hong Kong Island, it doesn’t worth going all the way to the Kowloon side, not to mention the New Territories for a movie. So, I usually go to the one at Ifc. What makes PALACE Ifc stands out from the other cinemas? Its prime location definitely wins my heart. Located in the heart of Hong Kong, Central, PALACE Ifc is always a good meet up point for a friends’ movie night. Also, situated in the luxury shopping mall, you can enjoy doing some shopping or have a nice meal before the movie. Not to mention, it’s great to sneak in the cinema with Garrett’s delicious caramel popcorn, where you can get from their nearby store (only 3 mins away from the cinema!).
Moreover, they have really comfortable sofa seats. Need I say more? Get a ticket and relax!
