Great public facility but very crowded. If you time your visit right you can avoid the crowds. Come early as most Hong Kongers sleep in — best time to swim is about 9AM here. Note that the pool closes on Tuesdays for cleaning. I love the hours as it is open 6:30 — 12 noon; 1 – 5PM and 6 – 10PM. Lockers and showers are available but either bring your own lock or a $ 5 coin for locker deposit. Pool is 50 meters, heated indoors with doors open to the harbor allowing diesel fumes from passing ships, which can be pretty awful at certain times of the day. Bring flip flops as the surfaces are quite wet/slippery. Goggles and cap is a must, and the water is pretty clean. There are 2 lanes dedicated to lap swimming, with all others either spoken for with classes or free swim which is a mess to navigate. The lap lanes are pretty crowded. Expect 8 – 10 very slow swimmers at any given time. Flip turns are unusual so expect stares if you flip. And remember, this is Hong Kong so you’ll swim clockwise direction(vs counterclockwise in the US) and you’ll have to watch out for the odd swimmer who crosses over the lanes to get to the other side(sorta like the chicken that crossed the road). But its a great break in the day for only $ 17HKD weekdays, and $ 19HKD weekends. I’d avoid weekends at all costs unless you love crowds. To get here: within walking distance of the Macau Ferry Terminal along the shoreline, or the Sheun Wan MTR station

So the swimming season started again(well kinda last Tuesday, but it turned cold again which is April is meant to be like. frustrating weather). Club house private swimming pool is great, but public swimming pool gives you an exclusive and unique perk you can’t get from a private pool — an Olympic-size 50m swimming pool. You make less turns, you are more engaged to swim in a longer distance, and you actually improve your skills really quickly here. I like the pool and there is almost nothing to complain about. The changing room is a bit of a chaos at the peak hours, and a lot of old dudes just don’t mind hanging their«thing» in the air walking around. Also, if you are a serious swimmer, you would want to be at the lapping lane so that people swim in one, circular direction. But still, there are often some super slow swimmers blocking everyone’s way, or some freestyle arseholes who think they are super fast and cut you off every single lap. But on a good day, everyone usually at around the same pace and it’s pleasant to swim there. As an extra perk, there is also a huge balcony, where if you are lucky(or get off work early!) you can have a sunbath here to get tan a bit, even though you have been swimming in an indoor swimming pool. By the way no, no need to say hi to me if you see me at the changing room.
