This restaurant was just awarded its third Michelin star in November 2015 and having just completed my 6 + 1 course set menu there I do not understand why. I do not remember having had a bad dish at any 3 Michelin starred restaurant before but I think I have to call it here. My braised e-fu noodle with lobster was served with a large amount of sauce. I wonder if the noodle did not eventually absorb too much of the sauce but it just tasted like overcooked instant noodle. The lobster was nice but enough to save the dish. I had two excellent dishes. The roasted pork was done delicately and served in large slices so I could really enjoy how well the pork was cooked. The second dish was sadly the dessert of fresh fruit, jelly and egg tart. Do not get me wrong the ingredients were excellent and sumptuous but their development into flavours were lacking in excitement. On the plus side the cost is more than reasonable HKD1,600 including service. Most 3 starred restaurants charge much more than this. I just flew 14 hours and this restaurant despite a friendly albeit rushed service does not deserve a special journey.

On the positive side– this is one of the least-expensive 3-Michelin-Star restaurants in the world(they just clinched their third star in the 2015 book); they offer a set lunch for $ 320HKD, which is pretty incredibly inexpensive. Everything else gets pretty negative. Food and presentation are really not great– you could do better at your average tea house or dim sum place, in many cases. A few experimental ideas like pork and goose paired with jellyfish, but plating and presentation were definitely not to the 3-star standard. Service is a little sleepwalk-y, but fairly attentive. Can’t say this is a great place to bring a family, the interior looks like a tent from the set of Arabian Nights mixed with a Midwestern-US ballroom. Dorky, course-by-course description here if you’re interested:

Great place! Not sure if it’s worth the two Michelin starts, but definitely is worth to come because the price is not that expensive for being a top restaurant. We tried different dishes but I recommend the goose. I’ve never tried it before and I loved it, it’s like duck, thicker skin and great meat. Try this place if you like Chinese food. I didn’t try abalone, but it seems it’s the specialty here.

Marvelous Cantonese style food executed with the precision one would expect from a Michelin starred chef. Atmosphere is well-manicured but nothing extraordinary. The set lunch is pretty darn good though. And not too pricey either.

This place is located in the langham hotel in tsim sha tsui. Our hotel concierge recomnended it to us for cantonese dining and it was seriously good. We are talking 2 michelin stars folks, not your typical strip mall general tso chicken you would find in the us but very authentic and well prepared for lunch and or dim sum.
