Beautiful picturesque gastro pub in the village of Addingham. Always busy and has a great selection of beers and ales. The food is wonderful but as it was lunchtime I just had a nicely presented sandwich with salmon and cream cheese and my companion had a bagel with pastrami and salad. Lovely sitting outside watching the world go bye in this beautiful conservation village. Some nice local SJ Hops to visit and while away an afternoon

There are a few pubs in this quaint village, Addingham, outside of Leeds where all the houses are still made of real stone and the Moors can be seen in the distance. Out of them, The Fleece is the best for quality(but not cheap) pub food, I was reliably informed by a local, and then sweetly taken there to verify this. The interior retains the traditional pub feel — a low ceiling, fire place, real ale and dark, unregimented furniture and a dog or two lying on the stone floor. You can still stand at the bar to get a pint but it is mostly waitress service in gastro-pub style. They have a great menu if you are into meat — lamb shank and good fish. They were even able to modify my fish, potatoes and vegetables so that it was dairy and gluten free — not a hard thing to do in this case but I always appreciate the effort. The lamb shank of my Addingham local looked like it was done to perfection.

The only way country pubs seem able to survive these days is by going all fancy, and the Fleece in Addingham has gone further than most — whoever heard of a Yorkshire inn that served chorizo and confit duck leg? Thankfully, it’s only gone partly posh, and alongside the rather upmarket menu(with matching prices) is a cheaper and more traditional bar menu, featuring such welcome hearty delights as ploughman’s and meat and potato pie. The reviews for this place are glowing, but they tend to look at it from a restaurant point of view and overlook the fact that the Fleece is also a very good pub, with stone flagged floors and roaring fire places that make it a very welcome retreat at the end of a long day’s walking. There are good local ales on tap, and enough smatterings of locals to prevent it feeling like a tourist trap. My only criticism is that the focus is a little too much on a the food, while a little more attention to the pub side of things could make this a really thriving community hub.

A small, quaint country pub with food so delish i screamed 3 times for more. The menu is basically meat, meat, meat which is definitely not a bad thing. There’s something deeply, almost worryingly satisfying about breaking through the crust of a steak pie and watching the smoke rise out and the meat fall onto the plate swimming in thick, brown gravy… yeahhhhhhhhh. And they know they’re good, so they don’t skimp on the prices, which is fair enough. There’s also a quality selection of beer and ale to drown the mountains of food down with, and you may need to replenish your liquid intake quickly after the severe loss of saliva waterfalling from your mouth. Water would probably be a better solution but why would anyone drink water in a pub? There’s not much else to say. The only downside is the place is often populated by ‘Ra’s’, which apparently means pompous, annoying people. Usually girls. But Addingham is full of them and there is no escape.
