Lovely pub/bar. Excellent balance of available beers including an excellent keg beer(sat on the bar!). Smart, clean, tidy, well lit but not overbearing and very friendly staff. Would absolutely call this a local if it was local. Well done.

Write as if you were talking to a good friend(in front of your mother) No spam, no self promotion and no offensive language. We visited using a groupon voucher, and had expected decent food and service in nice surroundings. The restaurant/pub was ok, nice décor, and staff were quite welcoming, however the service could have been better. A bit slow in clearing away the plates and were a little pushy with drinks,(as these had to be paid for, separately?) and didn’t check/ask how the food was until they came to clear the plates, by which time the food had already been eaten. or left on the plate. For starters we had the carrot and spinach soup. which didn’t appear to have any spinach but instead a lot of coriander on top. Quite thick and filling, but too salty(perhaps to encourage more drinks?) the bread roll was out of packet(a mini petit pain) and would have been nicer with a homemade larger roll, v. generous portion of butter, a portion half the amount would have been adequateif trying to save on costs make the rolls and give less butter would be my advice. For the main course there were 3 meat options but only 1 vegetarian option. Which was a spinach, mushroom and feta lasagne. When it was brought out the dish was quite small, but as soon as I went to cut into it, all I could see was a pool of cream. Did I order another soup? There was not much pasta and the mushrooms were undercooked and tough/chewy. I had to send it back after 2 mouthfuls and was given a large salad with some feta instead, which was ok but had a lot of very coarsely ground black pepper on top. I ate as much as I could that did not have the large bits of pepper, and had to spit out mouthfuls at times. Not a pleasant experience. The chef really needs to pay more attention to the seasoning of dishes, as this would much improve the overall taste. My partner had the roast chicken, which was quite a generous portion, however the yorkshire pudding was burnt on the outside and undercooked inside, and the roast potatoes were also burnt. I’m wondering how such poor quality food was allowed to to be sent out to paying customers, as frankly this wasn’t worth the price advertised, and other pubs nearby were doing similar meals for less. Overall not a great meal and so we didn’t order dessert. They seemed a bit confused as to whether it was a pub or a restaurant, as we did not get a bill at the end of out meal at the table and so had to pay at the bar. We were charged £6.97 for a pint of guinness and a small glass of soft drink, which seemed a little bit expensive. No bill/receipt were given either, which seems a bit strange. Overall I would not recommend this place or come back here again.

One drink just isn’t enough. Right I had better book myself in to that AA meeting and I’m not talking car breakdowns here. Until then I’ll sit in the Yard. What another cracking pub. Ilkley really is spoilt in this department but I do love it here. It’s beautifully decked out with wood and leather and it feels like a nice space to wind away an hour or two with friends. Very relaxed and speedy service too. Once again all your grape needs will be met with some classy vinos and ale is never forgotten in these parts and the Yard is no exception. As for the food… Different class. Real pies, chunky sandwiches and fantastic gourmet burgers. You have to try the Portobello and goats cheese burger. Everyone needs one in their life. The deli board is also a terrific starter to share with the family bursting with olives, feta cheese and dips. I can think of many a Sunday afternoon I’d like to relax and unwind with a tasty glass of Chardonnay and excellent nibbles. Ilkley you’ve gone and done it again, top marks to you.

After a morning’s Christmas shopping in the beautiful town of Ilkley my boyfriend and I decided it was time for lunch. As he had paid for petrol it was my shout and I owed £25, so we were looking to eat a hearty meal with some nice drinks for about £12.50 per head — not actually an easy task if you think about how expensive places have gotten these days! Still, where there’s a will there’s a way, right? We wanted a nice pub with homely food and no nasty footie crowd or TV. Enter: The Yard. This gorgeous pub is exactly what we wanted. It was out of the way from the busy high street, so we immediately found a table. We were attended to by polite young staff who served us quickly and efficiently! We both ordered the ‘Yard Burger’(fool of a boyfriend decided to ‘double up’) and waited for our meal, which arrived very quickly. Awesome. The chips were something else — chunky, crispy and soft, totally yummy. The rest of the food was deliciously cooked and you could tell that it was home made. My only beef(heh heh, geddit?) was with the onion rings — they were a little too oily for my taste. But everything was great. Doubling up proved a little too much for my boyfriend, as suspected, but for only £2.50 or so extra it wasn’t a big deal. Final point worthy of noting was the toilets; apparently even the boys’ loos were a delight, which as I’ve been made aware, is a rare occurrence! I did however get a strange look from a lady as she walked in on me playing with the exciting new fangled hand dryer — these things are exciting! Anyway. For delicious food and great service, visit The Yard. I even managed my budget of £25 for two meals, with sides, and three drinks. Bargain!
