I came here after having dinner at Altrincham market and was recommended this place by a fellow Unilocaler. Outside it was busy in the alfresco area. Inside there was only one table free which was reserved for later. Luckily, some punters were leaving and we had their table. Inside it looks dark and dingy and it kinda makes me feel like I am in a Belgian bar rather than a trendy bar in Altrincham. As I am not a big beer drinker and not many of the low alcoholic beers appealed to me I selected a fruity beer. The beers came and everyone got a glass corresponding to their drink which is a nice touch. Their beer selection is very extensive and includes beers from other countries as well as Belgian. You have to go upstairs to the toilets. Upstairs is similar to downstairs — dark. If you like your beers, this is a great place. I am glad I got to visit here as it is only a stone throw away from the market and town.

After the success of the Magical Market Tour, a whole bunch of Unilocalers piled in to Belgian Bar to get out of the cold — and near some more booze. We were told to head upstairs and that our order would be taken at the table. It’s cozy and warm(a little too warm), with lots of dark wood and mismatched tables. The menu is vast, with dozens of different types of beer and cider, both on draught and bottled. I decided against my usual choice of cider and went for a fruit beer — time to expand my horizons etc. It took a little while for the waiter to come and take our order, and then for him to return. At first only carrying two drinks at a time, this became a lengthy back and forth. After a while, a tray became involved, which made it slightly quicker, but that alone took a long time to happen. The drinks eventually came, and the strawberry beer was quite good, though still not wholly to my taste. It was only once everyone else’s drinks had arrived and we reminded the waiter that Mark D. was waiting for a cider that he suddenly decided to tell us that they had none — despite the vast menu choices and initial order taken. Slightly slow and confusing service made for an a-ok experience; I may go again, but probably not in a hurry.

I have live in Altrincham all my life but have not really ventured to the Belgian bar all that much, I see why now. It is ideal for a cosy night for two, but not too long. The selection of beers is a bit overwhelming, and there isn’t all that much room in side if there are people in. The beers on offer for really come with much explanation from the staff but this could be due to the queue. Some will be shocked most drinks are sold in halves, but that may help when it came to £9.40 for two halves, my dad would stage a sit in if that came back on a receipt! The Belgian bar wouldn’t be my choice to sit in, maybe outside if the beers had a selection more of craft ales.

This is far from the gimmicky bar I imagined — it’s very cosy with its fire downstairs and has some outdoor seating too. I’m not a beer drinker so normally opt for fruit beers — the strawberry beer was great. They were out of the peach beer on tap and apparently quite a few other things too — and they didn’t bother telling Mark D they were out of is choice until he asked where his drink had got to! Not v organised(and not great with a massive group either) but overall for a small place it’s pretty decent. I tried asking if it’s always cash only but the bartender didn’t speak great English. Definitely when we were there they weren’t taking cards.

I popped into Belgian Bar after an event I was running in Alti and have to say that I really enjoyed the experience — it really reminded me of some of the rough around the edges, but homely and relaxing ale bars I hit when holidaying in Amsterdam(I do know Belgium and Netherlands are different countries… ;-)) I’d booked out the upstairs for our do(took 35 easily over over 2 floors) and then stayed for a couple of beers afterwards. The on pump selection of beers was fantastic and there were loads of options of beers that I would usually probably bypass in favour of the American/British craft beer scene — this meant I had to try something new and I did, thoroughly enjoying the Blonde beer I supped(followed by some fantastic German lager) Friendly staff, a roaring fire and a really lovely homely feel(a real mix of patrons, including peeps with buggies) — I’ll definitely be going back next time I’m in town.

I really liked this place although it was a bit pricey. They didn’t have my drink Jäger but I guess everyone comes in here for the ale. I think £3.00 was the cheapest for a half pint of ale and one Unilocaler complained of being charged £9.60 for a full pint! Scandalous! Worse than London prices! Saying that the venue had a wonderful atmospheric/gothic feel to it and the dark wooden furnishings only added to the impending mood. As the cold November night drew in outside, we all pulled our chairs closer and gathered round the table, telling stories while supping various fruity ales. A real winter warming end to a great Unilocal event!

I went to this bar with Unilocal friends after Unilocal events, nice place with big selection of beers. Staff nice and help full with making order. With fire place this place is worm and great for cold day. Sitting places are very close and you can feel little squish but after couple of drink do you care lol. It is great new experience with different kind of beers, but prices are high. I can recommended Cherry Beer.

I came here with thy Unilocal crew, and I did really enjoy it. I loved the real blazing fire downstairs, all the wooden furniture and funky mirrors… I felt a little claustrophobic ordering a drink from the bar as there was a buggy in my way and a guy arguing over his bill… but that aside the drinks they had to offer was good. It was nice to a see a pub in which its range of beer reflected its architecture. They do not offer card payment here however so come prepared. I do not know what the food is like but I would definitely come here again with someone to get them at least a drink. However I feel Its not somewhere you can stop for long because the drinks are expensive some ale costing £4.70 for a half pint(this was 8% though) and the lack of card payment facilities… but if you are about I would give it a go, even if you come in for a half pint of strawberry beer :)

Belgian Bar has been on my bookmark list for ages, ever since I went to Altrincham Market and spotted it opposite. So when a good friend(and fellow beer fiend) from ‘darn sarth’ came up for a weekend visit I knew we had to head to Alty first. We got there early afternoon on a Saturday and quickly saw that we’d be the first people in there, not that we let that stopped us, it just meant we got the best seats by the open fires. The beer list is huge, sized more like a phone book(they have 250 bottled beers and more than a dozen on draught). So unless you really know your beers, you could feel somewhat overwhelmed at first.(Personal recommendation for Timmermans Peche). The staff are on hand to give you suggestions if you need. With spacious seating over two levels, it’s a lovely place to sample some lesser-heard-of beers and watch the world go by.

belgian bar altrincham — visited this bar last week and we left feeling really disappointed. Firstly, the first 3 draught beers I asked for they didn’t have which for a bar that boasts it wide variety of beer, is fairly poor. Secondly, we thought we’d grab something to eat, nothing big so we went with the jumbo bratwurst; this was described as a jumbo sausage in a jumbo bun served with sliced tomato, gherkins and sauerkraut. What we got was a pathetically small sausage in a bun that looked like it had been ripped open in a blind rage, and was missing all the other filling bits. The sausage was just bleh, but I was more insulted by blatant disregard to the menu description. This bar seems to pride its self on its beers but falls down so amazingly on food. When I mentioned this when leaving, the answer I got from the waitress was«ah»…what every complaining customer wants to hear. No apology, nothing. So thank you Belgian Bar for offering probably the worst customer service I have heard in a long time, and for that reason we won’t be visiting again and I will definitely be mentioning this delightful visit to all our friends who live in the area too.
