Real pub with a very good welcome. Staff and owner made us feel welcome and as if we were new found friends. I have spent 2 years trying to find a pub where the staff don’ just want too serve you beer, they want to actually have a conversation with you. The problem with staff in most pubs is they are young and shy and terrified of actually comunicating with human beings. Since a pub business is based on people coming back repeatedly this creates a problem. The Anchor has cracked it, I would definately recommend quiz night on a Thursday.

The Anchor is a decent little pub on the outskirts of Bedford. It’s basically the only pub within a reasonable walking distance of the hotel that I’m staying in. I went in on a Wednesday evening and to be honest it was pretty dead. The football wasn’t on(they don’t have Sky). They don’t serve food. However the landlord was a pleasant enough fella and the beer was decent. There’s also a pool table and darts. I wouldn’t go out of my way to go to The Anchor, but I’d certainly go again if I was nearby.
