Hurst’s was the jaunt in which I bought my lunch nearly every day when I was attending Birkenhead Sixth Form College, it was a friendly alternative to the overpriced Co-Op in Claughton village, albeit a bit stodgy. This place was and still is very popular amongst villagers and college students. They serve a range of breads, pies, slices, barms, breakfast barms and pastries. I’m particularly unadventurous when it comes to bakery food so often opted for their Cornish pasty. The women who work her were very friendly with the students and were always up for a laugh and a joke, this gave the shop a really nice and friendly atmosphere. They also do a nice cup of coffee to take out, which was a godsend in the mornings on the way into college when you hadn’t yet awoke enough to make eye contact or speak to anyone! Also, the place is very cheap, with a pasty and a cake costing under two pound for both

Hurst’s is a local bakery and sandwich shop with six in the Wirral and Birkenhead area. They pride themselves on using top quality ingredients using flour from a local mill, unbleached and stoneground flour, healthy g.i. multiseed loafs, fresh local eggs and cheddar cheese from a diary in lancashire. They have a wide variety of bread and delicious cakes includes vanilla slice, gingerbread men, cream cakes, fairy cakes of many different types. In this particular Hurst’s Bakery I found the staff very friendly, helpful and efficient. Prices are average. They offer a number of sandwich platters as part of their buffet menu’s plus pork pies and sausage rolls.
