My Irish friend is very impressed by this place because they pull a Guinness perfectly. The selection of other drinks is rather lovely too and the food is nice as well. They do have a special restaurant area but you are more than welcome to eat in the bar area. The place itself has a classy yet cosy with sofas, booths & stools at long tables. There are always plenty of places to sit.

Yet another venue I haven’t reviewed until now. This bar is located just off the cathedral square and is attached to the premier inn. There is nothing special about the décor-long high tables with bar stools it low tables and wide comfortable chairs in far wood. I would say it’s good for a lunchtime meet up, but not my first choice for the evening. The staff are friendly and helpful and the food has always been good too. When I went this week however the menu seemed much reduced. I really enjoyed my cheese burger and fries, but a few weeks previously I had a lovely beef pie, which didn’t seem to be there anymore. The drink selection isn’t massive ether, but if you just want Carling, San Miguel or Amstel then you’ll be fine.

Metres away from Colmore Row, Colmore Bar & Grill serves as a great bar on a night out whilst also adequately sufficing for those in need of a quick bite to eat, whilst nearby. It was only a friend and mine on my last visit and we decided to get a pint and a pizza each, with a side of dough balls. Being mid-afternoon the place was practically deserted, not that we were that bothered. In total, two reasonable sized pizzas cost £7.50 and £8.75, with the dough balls setting us back almost £5 for a double portion with garlic dip. The service was fairly mediocre, with the staff seemingly un-phased by our presence as the rest of the place was empty. The food was along the same lines, nothing spectacular and not exactly satisfying. We left a small tip and made the one pint last our entire stay, in what I would describe as a fairly underwhelming experience.

Chic and stylish, this modern bar and restaurant is located within the Colmore Row area. The area of Birmingham city centre which I like to call the ‘upper’ class part of the city. Colmore Bar is just off Temple Row and situated just near St Philips Cathedral– so you shouldn’t have problems finding it. Every few weeks, I have a meeting with a few colleagues of mine. It’s become the only place we go for this particular fortnightly meeting. Reason being, like I said earlier: it’s easy to find, also close to all the bus/train links and the bar is really elegant inside. It’s decorated in a modern way, with a mixture of sofas, high chairs and bar stools. The bar is a reasonable size. It’s not the biggest of bars or restaurants but it’s a practical size. They also have a Costa Coffee, so if you don’t want to have an alcoholic drink and fancy a coffee you can still pop into Colmore Bar. Of course they serve food; unfortunately I haven’t eaten there yet but will do very soon. The bar is very convenient for tourists because right next door, there’s a Premier Inn hotel. What’s really handy is that there’s an indoor entrance between both Premier Inn and Colmore Bar, so guests staying at the hotel are always coming in and out of the bar. This doesn’t make the bar crowded; they maintain a nice level of busy which means you do not have to wait too long to place an order or obtain a drink. However, one point to make is that I’ve only been there during the day not at night, so it could be a different story!

Located next to the Premier Inn, they offer good cuisine and drinks at a reasonable cost. I had the Spring vegetable and thyme butter risotto, which was cooked well and the flavours balanced each other. It’s a nice place to visit if your just after coffee, however, they also have specials on cocktails every Thursday from 5pm. Pitchers start at only £8.99 and because the service is very good I didn’t mind leaving a tip. They offer good music and TV, and it’s ideal if you need somewhere to relax in the day. The toilets are located downstairs, so a bit of a walk and it feels like a labyrinth finding them. (An ideal location if you do have too many)
