The Village Café is your one stop shop for Thai, Malaysian, Singaporean and Chinese cuisine, as such it’s a confluence of great east Asian food which should not be missed! It’s located right in the heart of Birmingham’s vibrant China town and I can safely say it more than holds its own against the big business buffets such as Big Wok. Between the hours of 12 and 5 pm they do a great deal known as the special set menu lunch where you can choose from a range of dishes for the measly fee of five pounds and ninety nine pence. If you choose to take up this option then I’d say plump for the sweet and sour pork which is served with not only boiled rice but chicken and mushroom soup as well. Add to that a choice of drinks such as Soya Milk, Chinese Tea and Coke, so everyone’s happy! Good food, good value and good location too.

Stumbled on this place by accident. Small friendly café serving Chinese food. Portions were huge so if you are with another person share a main dish unless you have a big appetite and the prices are good too. If you are in the city and need somewhere to have lunch or dinner and fancy Chinese I would recommend this café.

very good chinese/malay restaurant. and very good price. they have a wide selection of Malaysian/Thai/Chinese food all for under 10 quid. I’ve tried the roast duck and roast pork noodles… very good! went there for lunch and dinner and went away satisfied everytime. Also have a selection of chinese desserts and bubble tea. I probably wouldn’t trust getting the bubble tea. very casual atmosphere. and staff are very attentive.

We visited the Village Café a week before venturing to the neighbouring Malaysian Delight. After enjoying both I have to say that the Village Café just pips it for me. Both are excellent value, but we found the food here managed to better balance the mix of flavour and heat, whereas some of the dishes at Malaysian Delight were subject to a heavy hand with the chilli oil. I was fortunate enough to eat with a generous group, so tried about 8 dishes in total, from a delicious Malay curry with meat falling off the bone, to a delicately battered tofu that was soft and gently cooked, avoiding the all-too-common pitfall of being bland and rubbery. The price only added to our enjoyment, £30 for two people will provide a generous mix of starters, mains and drinks. I think I will be hard pressed to find many places in Birmingham that offer such a good meal for such a modest price.
