The Yew Tree is yet another example of a high quality Birmingham bar. Birmingham certainly knows how to run a good bar and the service in The Yew Tree exemplifies that perfectly. The staff here are always on top of their game and you can be sure to be treated with the utmost respect and friendliness. Aside from being a fantastic bar, this place also offers great function rooms and even wedding receptions. I’m not sure if this place would be first choice for me in terms of where to host the after party on the most important day of your life but it certainly seems to be a popular choice amongst locals. It would be fair to say that if the staff are as pleasant at a wedding reception as they are professional during a normal days work then you would be left with very little to worry about. I like the Yew Tree and think the excellent staff deserve a pat on the back.

I’ve been to the Yew Tree pub a few times because it is my local, and sometimes, you can’t always be bothered to catch the bus or walk too far for a drink. But if I’m completely honest, I have to be persuaded by my friends to go. The pub isn’t really my area of comfort, and every time I’ve been in, I’ve always felt the need to look over my shoulder. The drinkers in there come across unwelcoming, regarding the personal contact I’ve had with them, and I don’t really enjoy being in a pub that holds a tense atmosphere, I prefer to go to a pub where I can chill out. I’ve also been to the Yew Tree for a couple of gigs, just to see if entertainment makes the pub anymore likeable, but in fact, the punters seem to heckle their performers, rather than sit back and enjoy the music. In short, if there was a better local independent pub in Yardley, I would be in there. But at the moment, I’m going to be using the newly-built Wetherspoons.

This pub is a completely different specimen to the eye– sore that used to occupy the corner of the Yew Tree roundabout some years ago. In terms of looks anyway, but many people still observe the pub with a poor reputation; in fact it is not the most inviting pub. It is a renowned Blues FC pub yet, I felt a little on edge and uneasy in here. It would be unfair to flag this pub as one to avoid but I just felt as though I was an outsider, a tourist to my own area and not the most welcomed. If I was to revisit the Yew Tree then it would be in the nice sunny weather utilising the outside seating. The staff are friendly and they serve a nice drink.
