Awful! Staff who have been seen smoking in the kitchen. Disregard for food hygiene. Cross contamination of meat and vegetarian food.

i went on this restaurant few times, and always been disappointed, the food stay on display since morning, so is dried and old, i pass by the restaurant everyday as i work in that area, and most of the time the restaurant is empty, thats why the food is not nice at all

I went here a couple of days ago. Good price at £7.99 in the evening. I was suprised for a buffet restaurant to have so many meat dishes, most use veg as its cheaper but here there is chicken, beef, duck and prawns. The wait staff are great, polite and attentive. Downsides desserts are various tins of fruit slices and lemon tart.

Buffet Island is a a pretty perfect Chinese buffet, I mean you don’t go to these places looking for amazingly authentic and delicious cuisine. It has all the usual suspects chow mein, sweet and sour, foo yung etc etc An added bonus to this place is the fact is an independent establishment as well as being really cheap at £5.99 for a weekday lunch!

You’re not going to have some kind of culinary reawakening at a place like this, but what you can do is get a decent feed for a reasonable price.
The menu is mostly standard Chinese fare, with spring rolls, chow mein, sweet and sour and all your takeaway faves. Speaking of takeaways, they do offer a ‘pick and go’ takeaway service. Unusually, they also have a facility to cook particular foods fresh for you while you wait.

No. Just no. Don’t do it. Honestly, this is not the place to go for good Chinese food!
The name and the exterior say it all. Every time I eat Chinese food in England I am disappointed… its always greasy, every dish seems to taste the same (and incidentally of very little) and I usually have to douse my meal in Soy sauce just to inject some flavour… in short, it’s nothing like real Chinese food! Buffet Island is no different. In fact, the food tasted and looked very much like those Chinese supermarket ready meals… lifeless, congealed and full of scary colourings. I know buffets are always a bit of a gamble, but the food really looked as if it had been sitting out for days.
If you want to fill up and aren’t fussy about what on, you’ll find there’s plenty to eat here. Plenty to eat and no customers. Even on a weekend night, this place is never full. They seem to have massively overestimated the number of people who are willing to pay over the odds for bland Chinese food. I won’t go again.

Buffet Island is a great little all you an eat Chinese Buffet situated in central Brighton. Its a nice change from the chain all you can eats usually found in city centres. Its a great little stop off for lunch as well as diner, all you can eat on a weekday lunch is £5.99 if you’re after a stodgy working lunch!
The dishes on offer include all the usual sweet and sours, curries, chow meins etc etc. Its not the most amazing culinary experience but if you’re hungry for Chinese it always nice to support local independant businesses.

Make sure you go on a sunday as its £8. Thats pretty good value, although the food can be a little disappointing at times. Even so, there is plenty of it, there’s fresh fruit for dessert and the Teppanyaki is always fun.

Buffets are generally to be avoided wherever possible, if you don’t mind food that has been mass prepared and sitting around for a long time. Ate here once, and whilst we didn’t leave hungry, didn’t feel compelled to return, and didn’t feel we’d eaten anything fresh. That may be a little unfair thoughm as they do have other options on the menu and it isn’t JUST a buffet.

Great choice of food at a great price and it’s all you can eat! They also have sushi and an option to stir fry fresh ingredients on the spot. Fantastic.

I think this Chinese buffet is the best out of the other ²⁄₃ in Brighton. The food isn’t as oily and there’s also sushi on offer at certain times of the day. the prices are reasonable and are likely to be reduced during summer time to encourage more people to eat during hot days (crazy idea). the staff are well mannered, although not very friendly. It’s located near London Road and opposite a bus stop, however car parking may be a problem as the areas around it are pay-meters. overall, a nice and clean restaurant.

Cheap Chinese buffet. To be fair, there usually is a great selection but it’s always a bit hit and miss. Some of dishes are lovely but I left feeling a bit sick. Bad Chinese pop is played really loudly and they have TVs everywhere which is quite distracting. My boyfriend loves it though because its all you can eat which I suppose you can’t really argue with.

I went here last year with a group of people and the service was friendly. But going here with a male friend all that seemed changed. We was stuck around a corner. I had to flag down a member of staff to order a drink. Last time they brought over a plate and explained the system. We was just left to fend for ourselves.
the food was ok apart from the duck, which is not child friendly due to the bones, was over cooked. The Thai food is well laid out. The ice cream was so frozen one could not scoop any out.
This venue boasted playing all the big football games so its not for those who want to escape big sporting events.
Its clean and the food is passable. The price is bareable as well. Good place for groups.
