In honesty, I echo the sentiments of questioning the unlucky experience of Ross. Every time that I have ordered form Swallow House I’ve had no complaints. The menu is a bit of an eclectic mix of Oriental cuisine and prices are about what you would expect from a takeaway. Usually, I order as I pass the shop so couldn’t comment on the speed of a telephone delivery order. The staff are always friendly when you are in the shop and it doesn’t take too long to wait for your food. They do serve up a very good salt and chilli squid and this dish is probably what keeps me returning. A lot of the bean curd dishes are also quite nice and as a vegetarian for most of my visits here, I never felt like I was getting fobbed off with after thought dishes. There are better Chinese takeaways in the city for sure, but there are also far worse.

Swallow House has a traditional and specifically made menu. The vast amount of dishes come from localized Cantonese, Peking and Szechan cuisine. The staff are very friendly and love to recommend their favourite dishes to you. I’ve tried a few of these but I have to admit the set meal for one is something I always come back to. For £7 you get Beef Chop Suey, Special Fried Rice and a Pancake Rolls, which is a great deal and a great combination. It’s also nice to see a vegetarian section with some diversity, I’ve enjoyed both Stir Fried Bean Curd and Chinese Greens in Oyster Sauce… lovely. And all under £4.

This take-away shop in my opinion is better than the 1st reviewer makes out. Obviously, maybe the issue here is with consistency throughout the menu. I had a chinese curry with special fried rice which I have had at a variety of places and found it pleasant. The service was good and speedy which was great as I was in a rush. I would eat here again if there were no other choices for Chinese elsewhere.

I actually disagree slightly with the previous reviewer — as Brighton’s many mediocre chinese takeways go, I find this one pretty good! I do think I’m yet to find a really good one in Brighton though — reccomendations are very welcome… Swallow House has a huge menu so definitely something for all. The prices are slightly on the dearer side — say £4 per dish on average — but they do give free prawn crackers and delivery. My reccomendation, though a bit steep at £4.60, is #31 Fried King Prawn with Pineapple.

I ordered a Swallow House whilst staying at a friends, and sadly didn’t particularly enjoy the experience. Although the service was friendly, and the delivery was on time, the food itself wasn’t really anything special, and I’ve certainly experienced better takeaways. The duck spring rolls in particular left quite a bitter taste in my mouth, that refused to disperse even after numerous drinks and toothbrushing adventures. This is perhaps one to be missed.
