I’ve only ever bought a few little accessories here, but each time it’s been a positive experience. The staff are knowledgeable and friendly, setting the shop apart from photographic and electronics chain stores. A lovely selection of vintage cameras too and there is always a display of secondhand cameras and lenses on display.

The best camera place I’ve been is Leo’s Cameras in Vancouver. I would give that place 5-stars if I could. But since I can’t, and I’m here in Brighton, and Clock Tower Cameras reminds me of Leo’s Cameras, I’m going to have to give Clock Tower Cameras 5-stars instead. For the camera enthusiast, Clock Tower Cameras is simply terrific. I’m no camera enthusiast, but that’s a moot point when it comes to a place like this. The people that run the shop are extremely knowledgeable, and are able to give detailed, yet easy to understand, explanations regarding the items they have in stock. They are able to break down the features of their cameras, and are able to explain what certain functions do in layman’s terms. You can really tell that the people that run this shop care about what they do. If you ever need to buy a camera, go to a place that cares. Go to Clock Tower Cameras. They’re such nice people.

Leica Minolta Olympus Canon Nikon If you’re serious about photography, there’s only place you should be heading in Brighton these days and that’s Clock Tower Cameras. Run by two devoted film and photography lovers, it’s a treasure chest of equipment from high specification manual, zoom and digital cameras to old super-8 and cine video cameras. They also sell lenses, flashes, tripods, film, instruction manuals and yes, they offer fast turn-around services for colour and black and white film too. Interestingly, the shop has only been open since the mid nineties but it looks and feels like it’s been there forever.

This is a fabulous shop for the camera enthusiast, they have a huge range of SLR’s, expert tripods, various lights and flashes, lenses and sundries. They also fix things(say if like me you have dropped your camera and got the lens cap jammed) which you can either wait for or pick up later depending on the job. If you’re a first time buyer, just go and ask the guy, he knows everything ever about the SLR and will help you find your first piece of equipment whilst avoiding spending a fortune. If you are a seasoned professional then you’ll of already heard about this place.

Clock Tower Cameras is the complete antithesis to somewhere like Jessops. Its a small, friendly old fashioned camera shop where you could spend ages just gazing through the window at the mass of second hand cameras and lenses on offer. The two chaps that run it are so helpful and friendly, this may be due to the fact all the photography students flock here at the start of their courses to grab a cheap film camera and some advise how to use it! I’ve popped in many a time with a faulty flash gun or jammed camera and expected to pay a huge repair bill but most of the time they can fix it there and then in a matter of minutes. If not, they offer free estimates and then send it to a third party for repair. Their website offers a list of inventory. I shoot on Canon and have picked up a couple of fantastic lenses there that were a real bargain. Also, they still have a good stock of 35 mm and medium format film in stock.
