A must for fans of Nurse with Wound and other obscure Noise/Experimental artists. Nicely hidden away, but be aware that if you are unfamiliar with any kind of music outside the MTV charts, this could be a very traumatic (and possibly life-changing) experience! :)
I hope they still exist, haven’t been there for a while due to lack of funds but would LOVE to go there again and have a good rummage through this realm of the bizarre and under-recognized!

Blink and you’ll miss this highly specialist record store that houses a number of independently produced records of all sizes.
The typical offerings here are the genres of Electronica, Rock and Alt Rock. Fans of the burgeoning labels Drag City and Tru Thoughts will be delighted to discover that Edgeworld stock the best these labels have to offer.
You can also get CD’s here, which is useful for budding musicians because Edgeworld will actually stock your own CD if it’s professionally packaged.

This lovely little record shop is tucked away upstairs above a clothes shop on the North Laines. They have a fantastic selection of stuff on vinyl and CD with lots of alternative styles represented such as death metal, breakcore, wonky techno, noise and dubstep. The vinyl racks are packed to bursting with good stuff. You can of course listen to stuff before buying.
The staff I’ve met (including the owner who puts on a lot of quirky gigs arond town) are really friendly and knowledgeable about their stock. That’s a bit of a standard thing to say, but it’s true!
Last time I was there I picked up a Venetian Snares album and some 7″ records from a salebox. Also worth a look are the zines.

A CD-orientated record store: a fantastic selection of dance, rock, funk, hip hop and a decent selection of reggae. Unusually for an independant store, it lacks a vinyl selection, but they make up for this with their prices and fantastic overall selection of alternative music.
