Fitzherbets appreciates good music. They frequently have live bands and performances which is always encouraging however, today I wasted away an hour or so in there just listening to a live remastered Cream concert — absolute perfection. Often Fitzherberts gets overlooked with the packed out Mashtun next door however they share many of the same perks of being situated of New street(aka. Top people watching district). Getting a table out front will allow you to watch the world go by, enjoy live acts which often set up at the unitarian church opposite– on weekends there is always something going on. The bar is small and doesnt have the most expansive collection of drinks but the staff are friendly and put on some brilliant cds. Inside is cosy with fairy lights, candles and lots of art on the walls to consider over a pint. Music lovers should not miss out!

Visited this establishment yesterday while in town for a wedding reception. Stopped by for a coffee and sat in the outdoor seating area. It’s situated on one of the busiest streets in Brighton with a lot of people passing by and the sound of several buskers along the length of the street meant there was plenty to see and hear. The coffee was good. The chairs and tables were a bit cramped together but no one seemed to mind moving to let you in or out. The inside of the pub smelt just like pubs used to in my hometown before they all caught the wide ranging wine-bar syndrome. That was a real treat. The toilets were clean with plenty of toilet roll and the staff were friendly. Would go back if i find myself in Brighton again:)

Being on one of the busiest streets in Brighton you can easily overlook this place but step inside and you’ll find yourself in a neat quirky little bar which also does real ales. When we went yesterday(Sunday) eve, a lovely Jazz band was playing.

I’ve only been in here once, and it was the beginning of winter, and this is probably the cosiest pub you could wander into on a cold winter’s night. It’s tiny, got squared bay sash windows, is incredibly dark but is illuminated by hundreds of blue fairy lights draped across the walls. The lack of space means it’s nearly always a bit of a fight to get to the bar, especially for small people like me, so I’d recommend taking a giant with you to get noticed and not trampled on. The outside seating area is probably bigger than the actual pub, and in the summer this comes alive with the sounds of live bands and entertainment. They also do food but I’ve not tried it. I’ve yet to venture back in here again, but fully intend to do so as it’s lovely.

Either standing up in the bar cos there are no seats, or hanging out outside and watching the eye candy stumble by, Fitzherberts is a one of the most buzzing weekend pubs in the Lanes and always has an incredible atmosphere, mostly down to the clientele and location, but also the bar which is decked out for drinking sessions. Just serve the punters and let them get on with it seems to the approach, and we do.

After you’ve got over the lingering aroma of beer, bleach and B.O. in this ickle pub, you’ll soon fall for it charms. Right next door to the bigger Mash Tun, opt for the Fitz for its better crowd, beer and indie-minded character. Imbuing the old pub cliché of spit ‘n’ sawdust, the broom-cupboard bar delivers no-frills pints with unpretentious chat. Solid tables, starkly lit, upstairs, the equally miniature mini-club does some great psych-surf nights. While frequented by the hipster crowd, said nights are fantastic fun for anyone, if only for its wilful change form the typical fare. Try hot-stepping to something other than your usual four-four riddims and you’ll see a whole world opening up. A perfect example of what Brighton’s lesser-known haunts have to offer.

This is a good pub within the new Jubilee area of Brighton. I really love the surrounding area, this is particularly relevant given the level of outdoor seating that Fitzherberts offers. The pub is very charming, while the décor is quite minimal, it is all very tasteful and warm. The atmosphere here is very good, especially on a busy evening when there are dozens of people outside, also when the Mash Tun is busy. On some evenings you’ll also find live music here, but music that is actually quite good in comparison to the usual free music most pubs offer. I’ve been here and seen cello and bass players offering up modern take on the classical art form.

Fitzherberts is an extremely small pub/bar on the edges of North Laine. On an average day in Brighton(i.e. your typical English weather: drizzly, rainy, cold) it’s an OK little watering hole to sit down in with a pint. It’s naturally very dark inside, but little fairy lights everywhere give it a nice atmosphere. When this place really comes to life is in the summer though the seating spills out on to New Road and suddenly their customer capacity increases tenfold. The crowd are generally young student-types who enjoy their music. Often in summer they have a live band or music playing out into the street, so it’s a great place to chill out in the sunshine and watch the Brighton people traffic saunter by. I was in here the other night(rather late) and they had their upstairs area open. I’ve never been up there before, mainly because it never seems to be open, but it turns out it’s an equally little bar/dance area shabby, a little bit grimy, but pretty cool all the same.

Fitzherbert’s is one a my favourite places to have a tipple, and it has been one of few constant haunts that never disappoints. I like to get in the corner on an evening and sit over a whiskey and a pint. The dim lighting over said seat gives it an aura of a speakeasy or a 70’s cop show, I’m usually there with company so don’t go thinking there might be a weirdo peering over a couple of drinks at you. As with most wonderful things, they’re usually no secret and the crammed nature you might find is testament to this. However, do not be deterred. If you stick around long enough people usually head on to other places. The music in here can be hit or miss, but not in a generic chart music way. You could get a Ray Charles/Sam Cooke sort of vibe or there could be an alternative Four Tet/Venetian Snares thing going on. All these are fine by me, variety never killed the cat.

Often overshadowed by the adjacent Mash Tun and Waggon and Horses, Fitzherberts is smaller and more atmospheric than either of these. Entering, there is a small bar, with a little bar seating for those who drink fast. The best feature though, is the strangely lit main seating area, a drinker’s fairy cavern. A mass of blue fairy lights cover the stark white ceiling, and the effect this creates(especially after a few vodkas!) can be slightly disorienting, in a good way. Outside, like its neighbours, the place has some outside seating, which in summer is a great people watching spot. Its proximity to the Dome and to the Theatre Royal means that this is also a great choice for a pre-show drink.

Fitzherberts is one of my most favourite Brighton watering holes. I first discovered it after refusing to worm my way to the rammed bar in the Mash Tun, and I’ve never looked back. Though the Mash Tun and Fitzherbert’s share the same stretch of pavement, they are really quite different and seem to have quite different clientele. Though both can get extremely busy, Fitzherbert’s gets busy in a different way. So small is this cosy little bar, that it really only takes about 15 people to fill the place up! Even when full, it doesn’t feel hectic and people politely squeeze past each other at the bar, rather than ramming into one another whilst thrusting tenners at the bar staff, as sometimes happens next door. Fitzherbert’s is just more laid back, which suits me perfectly! The interior is mostly wooden and the lighting is dim, often tables are lit with tea lights and pretty fairy lights are also dotted around. Despite the bar’s size, I often seem to get a table, as people come and go, often stopping in for a drink after work of before the theatre. However, you could also happily spend a whole evening at Fitzherberts and I often do! The live music is great(though it does monopolize, so if you’re not in the mood, head elsewhere), the staff are friendly and there is ample outdoor seating for the warmer months… I think I’ve found my perfect pub!

Fitzherberts is one of the first pubs I went to when I moved to Brighton and it remains one of my regulars. The inside is so cosy that on a really busy night — when there’s clusters of people standing — you usually end up with someone’s elbow or handbag in your face. Luckily, the atmosphere is so friendly and laidback nobody seems to notice or care! There’s a cluster of seats outside and a ramshackle assortment of wooden tables and chairs inside. Gig posters decorate the hallways and toilets and there’s live jazz and acoustic bands most weeks. The rest of the time, the music depends on which bar staff are working. Most of the time they seem to rotate classic rock, indie and hip hop but I was once subjected to an hour of speed metal. I would have left but it was torrential rain outside. If they’d played The Supremes or Amy Winehouse instead, they’d probably have an extra star. :-)

Like The Mash Tun’s Siamese twin, Fitzherbert’s is almost unidentifiable as a different establishment. They pretty much share the front seating area and are literally joined together, but they are in fact, different and unique. With a tiny bar and smallish seating area, Fitzherbert’s tends to get quite busy quite quickly, but it is a thoroughly agreeable pub, which hosts some delightful live music sessions. Jazzy, acoustic, the mood is usually mellow, but its size means intimacy is instant. This is great, especially being a venue located in the busy centre of the city, it really gives you a place to escape and enjoy those good good good, good vibrations.

Perhaps not for the Wetherspoons crowd, but actually a nice place. Funky crowd. Large front patio on the car-free new road makes is quite pleasant. A little too small inside for the amount of people that show up, so getting to the bar is on occasional challenge.

I’ve had more neutral service from the staff, which while not exactly friendly, I can live with. What I can recommend about this place is the live jazz every Wednesday. It’s very small, so get there quick and guard your chair, but if you like live jazz you’ll enjoy a wonderfully intimate and pleasant evening.
