I am on top of this traditional and elegant pub. Being at the top venue at the poetry night listening to beautiful words and smart poets

Just love the place!!! Can’t believe it’s still there looking and feeling still full of character and, in my view, charm! Some might not think so First place I went and had a drink with some other soldiers when we signed up in ’59! Cor. sounds ages ago I know but the pub’s still the same. Lovely.

This pub has a fab feel about it, and also feels quite anonymous with its situation between the station and the mall smack bang in Brighton centre. It’s a good meeting point in this way for friends that are new to Brighton and just arrived, and although plonked in the middle and no doubt run by a super giant brewery, it retains it’s Brighton feel whilst adopting a theatrical style to its décor, which is quite deep and heavy — good for drinking.

An inviting pub in an area best avoided at weekends, the Quadrant has a classy first barroom with a function room available to hire upstairs. There is also outdoor seating cordoned off at the back of the alley which heading ominously towards West Street. We has a party upstairs not so long ago, and though it talk a little while for the room to warm up, once a suitable amount of drinks had been imbibed, it became a perfect place for a messy gathering among friends. With control of the music, there was a song-by-song rotating DJ, and pushing tables to once side, a makeshift dancefloor. Slightly formal at first, the upstairs room takes you away from the hubbub of Queens Street and into a pleasing bubble.

This is always one of those pubs that I’ve just popped into for a swift pint whilst shopping or on the way somewhere. It hasn’t really got that ‘stay factor’ but I think I might give it a go soon as you do get some interesting characters inside and the pub itself is really attractive. They hold some good comedy nights there apparently but they must be pretty low key as there’s not a huge amount of space in there at all. The staff are always really friendly and there’s some nice sandwiches and wraps on the lunch menu.

The Quadrant is a Brighton landmark, situated right next to the clock tower in the centre of town. There was public out cry when the pub closed down, but has been going strong since reopening in 2006. It’s a very small venue but brimming with character, its obviously been a boozer for ages and has a lot of original features like the small winding stair case and olde worlde bar. Its pretty traditional with regards to food and drinks on offer as well, with loads of real ales and pub grub. It’s a great meeting place as its so close the station, town and the seafront.

It shouldn’t be, but The Quadrant can be quite easy to miss. I often miss shops and such if there is a bus stop load of people to manœuvre through on the streets. Luckily, during the last Fringe I came and saw quite a few comedy shows upstairs and usually stuck around for a few drinks afterwards. Downstairs the bar is small but handily curves around itself, creating partitions. It can get to be an expensive evening if you end up for staying for more than just a couple.

A quirky, oddly shaped pub — this is one of those places that either seems to be brilliant or awful, depending on when you happen to visit. There doesn’t seem to be any particular logic as to why it is sometimes good and sometimes not either, it’s just one of life’s little mysteries. The downstairs is small, with windy steps taking you up to a larger upstairs section. Everything in this pub seems to be dark red and gold and wood, which offers a nice escape from the bright lights of the shops around Churchill Square — in other cities this would certainly be some kind of noisy theme bar, but as this is Brighton, we get something a little different. It is a pricey venue, as others have noted, and it’s not somewhere I would spend a whole evening. However, as place to take much needed break from shopping it’s ideal.

This pub has a great location by the clock tower, and in the middle of various Brighton landmarks like the pier, train station, lanes and churchill sq shopping centre. Definitely one to bear in mind next time you’re looking for a refuge amidst the mania of central brighton in the christmas run up. Drinks-wise it’s not great and pretty steep — don’t expect two drinks for your fiver — but that’s what you come to expect in central Brighton really. The décor is nice, and the selling factor is the cosy lounge area which is usually quite empty mid-week — perfect for an evening catch up with friends. They also hold quite a lot of events, including comedy nights every night of the week during the annual Brighton Fringe Festival. I popped down to wetherspoons for a sneaky cheapy glass of wine during the interval last time — another bonus to the central location!

After reopening in 2006 after serious renovation the Quadrant is back in the hearts of Brighton locals. Being the most central pub in Brighton, its a real landmark right next to the clock tower on North Street, which means its always busting with activity. It offers a Thursday Open night and Sunday quiz night and Motown DJs, as well as a friendly atmosphere and staff. The newly appointed chef a while back even came up to ask us what we thought after our lunch which was sweet. Its an unusually shaped venue, relatively small with winding stair cases and dark woods, but oodles of character. Its quite traditional in décor with original features and a lot of reds and golds through out. Its a great meeting place as its close to the train station, bus services and v. easy to find. It prides itself on being a traditional ale house for all you ale heads out there.

I walked past the Quadrant literally hundreds of times before I ever went in and to be honest, I wish I’d enter the doors a little earlier in my Brighton life. This oddly-shaped drinking establishment is delightfully traditional, yet at the same time, has a distinctly modern edge. You can sit on the ground floor not knowing that atop a windy staircase is a large and rather gentlemanly upstairs lounge where you can sip your Sagres and enjoy a view of central Brighton, or study the pattern on the flock wallpaper. Of course, you could chat to the person/people you’re sitting with, rather than wistfully gazing elsewhere. Wherever you choose to gaze, your eyes will enjoy a visual feast, for this is a truly handsome pub. Not a banging nightspot, but a place to enjoy a pint in an excellent location and comfortable surroundings. I will be going back to the Quadrant for more I think.

Brightonians went mad when this pub closed down a few years ago when buildings next to it were due to be knocked down ! The pub was saved, however, and was subsequently refurbished and reopened as bigger and better than ever before ! Really nice traditional pub. I’m not a beer drinker but fellow drinkers have always complimented the range of beers on tap available. Also have quite a few wines to choose from. Situated right in the centre of town it’s a great place to stop off after a hard days shopping ! It also has a bus stop outside so not far to stumble to get the bus home !!!
