I came to Kemp Town as a break from the North Lanes and the extremely busy area of Western Road. This was one of the few shops I found that wasn’t an off licence or restaurant. I was really pleasantly surprised by the range of individual and attractive creations that they sell. I ended up buying my Mum a beautiful bespoke mirror at a slightly expensive price of £45, but I would say that for what you get, it certainly was worth it. Since that first visit I have come back to buy a number of gifts for both myself, and other people. The products vary every single visit, which is a reflection of the creativity you’ll find here.

Though I am not too keen on their mirrors and assorted glass based items on the shop floor, these people are real craftsmen and have the skills. Many Brighton businesses you use will have had something made by these guys, be it a glass shelf or window built to fit, so you have to look beyond the gaudy designs to see what really goes on here. Saying that you might like the stuff on the shop floor, and that’s fine too, different strokes for different folks. But many of us will need a proper glass merchant at some point in our lives, Silver may not be the cheapest, but they do an extremely high standard and stylish finish.

Staying on a reflective tip, Silver is a distinctive boutique in Kemp Town that sells bespoke mirrors made from glass, wood and mosaic tiles. An independent business owned and run by artisans, everything is made by hand on the premises. As well as mirrors, there’s a small selection of beautifully crafted chairs, coffee tables, dining tables and ornaments made from recycled oak and elm trees. Being more of a vintage furniture girl, I’ve yet to buy anything from Silver but am in awe of the passion and craftsmanship that goes into producing each piece.

Silver is a rare find — as Jessia W. notes, it’s the kinda place where you’ll see the artist hard at work in the shop, and the various pieces(tables, mirrors, statues, paintings) all seem really unique. If you really want to splash out, they do bespoke glass furnishings such as beds! They do a wide range too, with bespoke items at 1000s of pounds, but smaller mirrors at under £50. At the moment(and for the forseeable future) this place is well and truly out of my budget. Well worth a look if only for the beauty of it all though!

Silver specialises in glass artwork, but there were a range of statues and artistic knick knacks around the shop. The in-shop artist was hard at work near the back, which brought attention to how much effort had gone into everything displayed. There were two enormous Buddha statues — one in mosaic-style glass, the other… gold ceramic… maybe? Other creations included long, funky clocks, animal heads, vases and home décor. A massive sale is on at the moment: Two tables worth of items for £10 each. Nice idea for Christmas gifts. Silver can also create larger furniture and home décor items: They advertise their ability to make glass beds, stair cases and any colour of ‘splash backs.’ I’m not sure what that last one is… but it’s probably impressive.
