I’ve heard they do good sandwiches, but I’ve never been back to try them unfortunately not had the friendliest customer service when I’ve been in for drinks.

A lovely, bustling coffee house on St. Michael’s hill. One of my regular pit stops. I’m always impressed by the quality of both the coffee and food they have to offer. The food is made fresh to order in front of you, so you get exactly what you want, how you want it. I usually go for the house salad and a soya cappuccino. I’ve recently discovered their orange polenta cake which is utterly yummy(and gluten free!). Very popular with students, especially at lunchtime so expect a queue. They also bring everything to your table unlike most.

Didn’t try any food, so this review is purely for the coffee stop… Nice location, but probably best to go to two day coffee roasters a few doors down if you want a great coffee.

Popular among arts students in search of a caffeine fix, Mocha Mocha is one of the few recent cafes on St Michaels Hill to have survived. New establishments seem constantly to open and close doors, so there must be something here that keeps the demanding student crowd happy long after the novelty of somewhere new wears off. The homely ambiance, the excellent coffees, the inventive range of flavours and good value paninis are all a plausible range of answers. The interior is heavily oaken, creating a cosy spot to hide from the rain during the wait between lectures. Mocha Mocha is also open to hiring out its back space to students for meetings. They provide snacks and it’s free of charge although obviously out of respect it’s a good idea to encourage guests to buy a coffee. One of the best cafes in the area.

If you read my reviews I often criticise a place for being too expensive for what you get. Mocha Mocha falls into the upper end of coffee shop prices but I am more than happy to pay the premium. Situated on the trendy St. Michael’s hill, Mocha Mocha fits perfectly into its surroundings. Beautiful oak beams line the ceilings modern purple wallpaper lines the walls whilst a fireplace gives the place a cosy feel. The elegant springline windows allow lots of light in and complete a fantastic interior that hovers on the fence of classic and modern whilst retaining a good blend of form and function. So sure a coffee will set you back over two pounds, but you’ll be in complete comfort while you drink it.

I come here at least once a week and have never been let down with the quality and quantity of the food. I usually have a tuna and tomato baguette(yes — I know I could just make this at home but the baguette and ingredients here are so much better!) They make great baguettes and really stuff them full, so I’m usually full-up by half a baguette. It’s not as cheap as other baguette places such as the Boulangerie, but it is not over-priced either. Their choice of scrumptious cakes and filling coffees is a bonus. You can have the food to take away but it is worth staying in the café to enjoy the atmosphere. The large windows mean the café is always bright and cheerful. They also sell tiny bottles of white and rose ‘Echo Falls’ wine which is perfect if you fancy a cheeky glass at lunchtime.

It was with relief that we stumble upon this place and that it was open til 6pm, perfect for an ideal meal before a deadly 6pm til 4am bar shift. My friend and I shared two paninis(my current favourite café item); brie and cranberry and an Italian chicken style one. The side salad was a little dry, but I’ll forgive them because it was the end of the day. The large coffee is huge(perfect!) and the food well presented and filling. The staff were cheery still considering they must have had a busy day in a studenty area such as this. Definitely one of the better cafes on St Michael’s Hill, though slightly pricey.
